As soon as a wildebeest dies, lions will feed on its carcass for a week or more.
Soon after, other scavengers will come for their share: vultures, marabou storks, and hyenas will all come to feed.
Over a period of five months, this film will follow the life and death of wildebeest, to reveal the world of the scavengers on the plains of Tanzania and Kenya.

Patient critters to wait on a carcass to spoil before being able to grab a bite, but not the beautiful lapid face vulture with the razor like beak. WOW !" 🤗🐴 Also, liked much the hippos cleaning up their neighborhood and pushing all the dead wildebeest to the shore that was interesting. I've never seen that before ! Thx much for this and your other brilliant documentaries ! 💟

To think a documentary from 24 years ago feels like you're the "cameraman" filming these animals, unlike the recent docs by BBC and Animal Planet that are more cinematic and wind up losing that "realistic" feel. At least to me anyway. I feel as though if I was born in the 2010's, I wouldn't have this opinion (at first anyway) until I watched older documentaries later on in life. I suppose I was spoiled in the early 2000's with stuff like The Most Extreme, The Crocodile Hunter, The Jeff Corwin Experience, and so on which is why I like the older docs more than the new ones. Heck when Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty came out on television it actually had that "cameraman" feel to it while having the cinematic shots restricted to seeing the landscape from a drone's view.

I quite respect vultures. Their stomach acid can destroy disease causing bacteria. Making them an absolute necessary in cleaning up carcass. I remember a wild crime investigation scene series where animals from hippos to wildebeest kept dying after drinking from a certain spoiled river - turns out it was botulinum. And this happen after mass eradication of vultures. Nature recovers of course, but not without giving us a lesson.
