Bringing Christopher Shea back as Keevan, is what made the entire Magnificent Ferengi episode so great. I think Sisko convinced Starfleet to hand over Keevan in "The Magnificent Ferengi" just to get back at him for what he did to his men in "Rocks and Shoals". He knew Keevan was hoping to, as Bashir put it, 'spend the war resting comfortably as a Starfleet POW", and thought "nah, let's give him _back_ to the Dominion so they make him suffer for what he did." They would much prefer to die fighting an enemy rather than each other.

Bashir and Sisko are not overlooking what you say, they could accept it if that were the real reason; they are pissed because it is obvious Keevan doesn't give a shlt about his men and their lives means nothing to them. @KDJi399s9cd07 жыл бұрын
Yes most of us would probably do that, but again it is clear that Keevan doesn't care about the fact that everyone else will die. The complete lack of emotion is what maddens the starfleet officers. @SantomPh3 жыл бұрын
The Federation's focus on science and exploration instead of conquest means there are a lot of career paths for engineers. Other races like the Ferengi and Klingons tend to look down on engineers or relegate the profession to certain parts of society like Cardassian women (though oddly enough, Dukat had to deal with a female Obsidian Order member). With humans alone the Federation reached warp capability and warp 5 within a century , invented transparent aluminium twice, learned how to time travel, replicate things, solve world hunger and even help cure the augment disease (yes, a Denobulan did the initial work).
@blastermasterguy2 жыл бұрын
True but they had an extreme disadvantage in that they weren't ready for war nor where they fighting it like they wanted to win. The Dominion had a virtually limitless army of cloned strong, tough, soldiers with optical camouflage, sub-space proximity mines, and starships with weapons that could penetrate Federation shields. The Federation responded to that by doing nothing new. They threw unarmored unshielded federation men and women into war with no combat training, no weapons designed to take out large contingents of Jem'Hadar, in starships designed for exploration and not combat. It took Sisko begging the Federation counsel to build any type of starship designed for combat and even then all they got was a few Defiant-class Starships, fighter craft, and a few Sovereign-class Starship (one of which, the Enterprise under Picard's command, was actually kept OUT of the fighting which was utterly stupid).

Based on the back story, the white is not replicated from scratch, but perhaps prepared from some concentrated precursor materials in the box.
@latifroberson44035 жыл бұрын
Not true, there's an entire arc revolving around the scarcity of white in the Alpha Quandrant after access to the Gamma Quandrant is cut off. Starfleet even targets white production facilities. Yes, I wonder about that. He wouldn't risk his life for the Jem'Haddar, but why would he go out of his way to get them kikled while antagonizing his only link to the Federation he expects to treat him well? I know Keevan is one of those characters you just love to hate, but we could also look at it this way. The Jem'Hadar are engineered to be soldiers, to fight and die in battle. Battle is what gives their existence meaning. They had no real chance of getting off-world, as they only had one vial of white left, and their chances of repairing the communications system before going mad from withdrawal were VERY low. If Keevan didn't order them to attack, they would have gone mad from the withdrawal and killed each other, not as soldiers, but as rabid animals, until only one was left. And how does that last one die? Slowly wasting away in the grip of madness and withdrawal. So one way or another they were going to die, it was just a matter of how and by whom. Thus by ordering the attack, the Jem'Hadar die quickly as soldiers, following orders just as they were made to by their gods, the Founders. Perhaps it's just me but that sounds like a much better way to die. Or perhaps Keevan was just a self-centered jerk.

As much as most Vorta were amoral deceivers, at least they seemed to genuinely care about their duty; Keevan was just a straight up scumbag. I'm glad he got the most ignoble death in the series: shot accidentally by a bunch of bumbling Ferengi, used as a meat puppet, then abandoned by them to walk into the same wall until either the power to the implants ran out, or he bludgeoned himself into mush.

They call that a fair trade?? It would take 10.000 Keevans for one Ishka.

Ferengi(Karma) meets Keevan. Whatever happens, he deserves it.😅

Not a Starfleet POW. He would be a POW of the United Federation of Planets or whatever the Federation, Romulan and Klingon coalition called themselves during the war.

That was good comic relief from the Vorta there. Too bad Iggy Pop couldn't save him.
