Absolutely beautiful video! Really liked the early morning scenes and the peaceful atmosphere. You always seem to pick the best music to accompany the scenic views, too! Your narration is informative and adds a lot of context. I was born in Roseburg (though sadly never lived there) and know a little about this line from reading the history of the SP in this area of Oregon. Thanks again for a stunning video, Dan!

It's crazy how much history lies on this line. I absolutely love it, and will always have a piece of my heart with it. I remember as a child running down my home road outside of Creswell to see if I can see what the semaphores were 'saying' whenever I heard a train horn. In the right location on that road, I could see the north end of the Creswell siding signals, and again, I'll never forget those days. The funniest thing is I have watched each one of your past several videos from my layover location in Glendale, Oregon while facing the two massive stacks of new railroad ties and multiple pallets of spikes along the CORP right of way. Today's video in particular made me smile knowing that parts of the video show my exact route for my Saturday deliveries! Keep up the awesome work, Dan! Love seeing all of these locations from this perspective. Take care

Thanks Mike and good story! Dang not too much in Glendale these days that's crazy you're laying over there but the railroad through there is great both directions. Nice to hear some maintenance is getting done through there.

I grew up in Cottage Grove just above Latham road by the once was huge Weyerhaeuser mill. Now just a small log mill. Fun watching loaded trains going (train West) North and not loaded (train East) South. You could here the train climbing Divide for a half hour before they got there.

Thanks for another great video, Dan. You mentioned the old California and Oregon RR. When I was a young kid in the early '50s, the remnants of the ill fated line west of Grants Pass was still there. I remember seeing the rails from the car, and even an old wooden boxcar, in the area between Wilderville and the tiny town of Wonder.

I live in northern Illinois. We don't have mountains so this scenery is marvelous to watch as is the train. I don't know much about trains but I assume the 10 mph is because of the curves they travel. The second engine is quite a smoker. LOL Very well done as always Dan.
@TheRailfanDan5 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed! Yes the 10mph is due to track conditions and curves alike. Yes that one was smoking pretty good.

A long time ago, SP proposed closing the line through Cow Creek Canyon because of the geologic problems with it. The planned, back then, to run the Siskiyou as two separate dead-end branches. Glad that didn't happen and CORP is still running trains over the entire line. I was lucky enough to catch it a few times under SP, including the famous run of 4449 to Medford, and the one (that I remember) CORP passenger excursion on the line. The early morning capture is great, Dan! Also, your choice of music is nice, all things considered.

I did not know that but I can kind of understand why. They had a pretty bad slide there just earlier this year I believe. That is awesome you got to see that 4449 run! I know of that Talgo passenger special too which still blows my mind they even did that. I think I would have liked to have seen that more than the 4449 run personally! Glad you liked the music choice. I always spend a lot of time looking for songs I hope might fit well.

Well you made my day once again. It brought back memories as a young rail fan as well as how stupid I was back then. I scheduled a multi-week circle journey from Denver to Spokane, Seattle, Portland, Oakland, LA, Grand Canyon. Stupid no. 1: Portland-Redding in one day, traveling on old 99, paralleling SP. so it was late afternoon somewhere near Roseburg when I realized that continuing south to Redding I would have to jump on I-5. (Obliviously missing the area of your video)-should have overnighted there. Stupid 2: Oops-I’m near Crater Lake-let’s go see it. Oregon’s windy roads got me there just before dark. Stupid 3: Instead of stopping overnight up there I wound my way back down to I-5 and arrived in Redding after midnight. Business and marriage never allowed me time to return and explore. So your videos bless me immensely!

Great job as always Dan. For anyone not familiar with the area, in Riddle there are actually 3 sawmills the tracks go through. DR Johnson, C&D Lumber which unfortunately just shut down, and Herbert Lumber. South of Riddle is Roseburg Forest Products plant 4 plywood and a little further south, RFP Engineered Wood Products plant.
@TheRailfanDan5 ай бұрын
I heard about C&D Lumber which is even apparent here. That is unfortunate. A lot of Oregon lumber mills have shut down in the last year.
@davidmihevc39905 ай бұрын
@@TheRailfanDan Copy that Dan. Yeah, tough times for the Timber industry for sure I feel for the people losing their jobs. Every mill that closes, the trains get shorter as well.

The trip through Cow Creek Canyon was route and uneventful until 13:25 when the engines were leaving the canyon as the sun rose and lit up the countryside. The drone was at the right place to catch this magnificent sunrise, Dan! The chase through Cow Creek Canyon along the Siskiyou River and on to Dillard, Oregon makes this a fantastic video. As we were pulling into Dillard, Oregon, you said in the narration that additional cars and engines would be added to this train ad then the combined train would head to Winchester, Oregon. Did you catch the addition of the cars and engines? Did you chase that train to Winchester to create another future video? (Posted 27 July 2024 at 1525 CDT.)

The early morning lights are beautiful. The canyon is really gorgeous too, the train goes through a very nice area. The second Geep is smoking pretty badly a lot of times. I'm sure the crew doesn't enjoy this ridiculously slow speed. Do know know what is the reason of the 10 MPH speed limit? Amazing video again Dan. Thanks so much for getting up early and filming these wonderful pictures for us.

pretty sure it's pronounced "Myrtle Crick" if I'm not mistaken, the grade crossing at 23:19 used to have a very old wig-wag crossing signal which functioned well into the 1990s.

Another gorgeous relaxing video and I myself like the soundtrack. Anybody who thinks this music is moronic must have a serious case of tinnitus or voices in their head. I think it’s very soothing and appropriate for an early morning capture of that train in beautiful Cow Creek Canyon. That warm, golden hour light is so beautiful as well. Good on you for getting up early and capturing all that gorgeous footage. One question, I assume both engines are chugging but why does the second one pour out smoke so much sometimes?
@TheRailfanDan5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much Rick! I think I know the comment you speak of and it didn't even make any sense. This is mostly piano and acoustic music... I'm glad that you think it was appropriate! Yes it was a very early morning to get out here but worth it. I am not sure why that unit is smoking so bad. It must need some kind of work done to it I imagine.

Do the two EMD SD70ACe still service this line?
@mpaulk20235 ай бұрын
As of yesterday, July 27th, 2024, one of the two SD70M-2's was running on the line; coupled to the two former CSX SD70M's and a Missouri and Northen Arkansas SD40M-2 (SD45). As far as I know, the other Dash-2 is being serviced (maintenanced) somewhere else....likely the same place where one of the two 70M's disappeared to for several months. I wouldn't be surprised if it popped back up out of nowhere within the next several months.
