The storm clouds are very threatening, but at the same time pretty cool too. The early spring colors are beautiful, everything is lush and green. I'd like to ask something. When an Amtrak train breaks down like in this video, who operates the helper locomotive the Amtrak or the UP crew? By the way that was a lucky catch. It's always amazing when a Class 1 railroad's engine pulls a passenger train. Great update again Dan. Although the weather wasn't ideal on certain days, the footage came out wonderful.

Very nice catch, Dan, the lighting is gorgeous. You mentioned the flaming stack at one point. That's the neat part of running and taking video at night - you catch things like that. I was running one night on the Eugene Hauler, headed south from Albany and looked back to see a barely visible blue flame coming out the stack of (I think) the second unit. Cool to see.

Amazing shots, is the Mavic3 so much better that the Inspire2?
@espeescotty18 сағат бұрын
In that opening scene, it looks like there used to be a passing track there at one time, or the line was shifted over just a bit. The ballast on the pulled-up segment looks more like "modern" crushed rock vs. the cinders or slag used as ballast in the first half of the 1900's. I don't see any other obvious roadbeds nearby, so I wonder if the bypassed segment is the original 1860's Central Pacific alignment. Just observing out load. Another sweet treat from Dan's amazing drone. 🤠👍

The headline is very misleading. The train is the Eastbound California Zephyr, so please avoid any confusion in the future. Before starting the playback, I looked hard trying to discover where you might have made the recording, to no avail.

The golden hour lights are fabulous. Other the rolling hills in the background, this is a pretty flat area, therefore the train can fly here. I'm sure the passengers likes this route and enjoys the journey. Very nice aerial footage as always Dan.

Dan, I'm really enjoying your videos especially views from the drone. The western part of the US is wide open unlike parts of the east especially here in Georgia where trees line the right of way in many spots. I have a DJI Mavic 3 I use for my railroad videos. I enjoy your narration as well.
@TheRailfanDan3 күн бұрын
Well thanks so much! Yes it is wonderful how wide open so much of the Western States are. So nice for using a drone. Right on the Mavic 3 series is definitely one of the best created so far.

@@TheRailfanDan With respect to your literally awesome videos, just not a fan of the music you chose for those interludes and simply mute it. You can not please everyone so take my comment with the importance it deserves..0. At least the hating on the audio. If I was to make a recommendation, it would only change to someone else disliking the music. Though I do have a personal thought that you can use or ignore, and that is to play the deep locomotive diesel track over the soundless drone footage as a test to see if anyone likes it. Just my less than 2 cents, and please understand I am just being honest. Your videos are phenomenal as is so will always like and subscribe as should everyone watching. I consider these videos work appropriate stress relief, and they are very much appreciated.

Very nice video. Just a tiny little idea that imho would improve at least my viewer experience ... I wish you could show some details of structures along the track, like the little bridge at 0:35 where I would like to see some side images.

Marvelous skills shown flying the drone so smoothly, I didn’t know this part of 9:38 NV looks like it could be Eastern OR! In the train going over the 2nd engine was BNSF’s any idea how it showed up on UP’s train? Thanks

Yeah some of it is similar to parts of Oregon and Idaho. Oh I'm not sure on the BN unit but not super uncommon for foreign power to end up on other railroads.

@TheRailfanDan5 күн бұрын
Well thanks very much that's a high compliment then. It's a big deal to me to add actual audio to drone footage with steam engines but at some point it does get very repetitive so I like to break that up with music.

Spending a couple hours waiting in the 100 degree heat, checking out all those millions of Mormon crickets crawling around everywhere ,was so surreal,and then to be rewarded with such an epic crossover catch, was one of the most epic experiences of our entire trip! That one will be a forever memory. Thanks again for the fun, son. Cheers!
