Some guys knock on our RV door asking if I could pull them out with my truck. Got their little car stuck. A heavy 9000 lb. diesel truck isn't a good mix with soft sand so I pointed them to a gathering of ATVers and they were out in no time. :)

I added this to my list for possible spots for next year; the fee seems rather high for no hookups though. The scenery is amazing and to be by the water would be nice. The soil reminds me of PEI. Winter not over here; 15cm of snow as well as some freezing rain tomorrow, ugh. Thanks for sharing this spot.
@egarant572 жыл бұрын
State Parks, you have to pay to play…
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason for the high fee is the popularity of the park for ATVers. They can camp and just drive right onto the dunes and trails and I guess don't have to pay a day use fee. All camping fees are headed up. Some popular no hookup provincial park campsites in BC are now around 35 CAD a night!

Areas of Utah are absolutely gorgeous. Timing is everything though, Utah has extreme temperatures, summer or winter. Last year we stayed at Mackinaw campground at Fish Lake. Fish lake was awesome, but the 9000 foot elevation was brutal and cell reception was spotty.

Yes, same for southern Arizona, it's getting pretty hot down there now! That's why I love the southwest, so many elevations change makes it easy to chase 70 degrees. :)

Thanks! Just over 33,000 after about 3 1/2 years. Most of the mileage happens when we head south and back for the winter and due to Covid, we missed one. The official color name is Blue Streak Pearl. :)

Hi Ray Love your videos. I was just hoping you might answer a question for me. Does one need a 4 wheel drive truck for boondocking? How often do you get in a situation where you need 4 wheel drive? Thanks
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
It's nice but not really needed for lots of great places. For our first 7 years of RVing full time, we had a 1994 Ford F350 2WD dually. Here are examples of where we took it www.loveyourrv.com/ten-favorite-campsites-of-2016/ You just have to be a little more careful and scout out the locations beforehand. My criteria was if a large Class C or a Class A RV was there we could make it. Cheers, Ray

Hey there Ray,Have you ever been to Kodachrome State Park?
Ray how have the outdoor window shade screens been working for you? I have been thinking about getting some for my camper, are they a good investment?
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
Great, I bought some more last summer www.loveyourrv.com/simple-to-install-exterior-window-shades-for-a-cool-rv/ I don't need to put them on much in the winter because its often not that hot, often times we actually want the heat of the sun. :) and I can usually position the RV in such a way as to not need them by keeping the larger windows on the sunny side.

Hi ya! How do you & Anne handle the red dust coming/going into RV? Does it get bad when it rains trying to keep floors clean? Can it be vacuumed safely? Thanks
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
I usually just sweep it out with a whisk broom and wipe counters with a wet cloth. And any left over on the floor or in corners I use my little shop vac. It also clings into the window sills but I wait until we are out of the desert then give them all a wipe and clean. It really doesn't rain too often and the ground quickly dries after a rain so we just make sure to take our shoes off on a rain day. We are used to camping in the Pacific Northwest so are used to mud and dirt and pine needles on our shoes an dealing with it.
@richardmarlowe4222 жыл бұрын
Great video Ray. How are you dealing with these high fuel costs
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Hasn't been too bad, we don't move very far with each hop and stay in places for several week at a time. The newer truck gets much better mileage than are old one did. And being from the west coast of Canada fuel down here seems like a bargain! Diesel back in Victoria is currently $6.32 US a gallon, just filled up here in Utah and it was $4.79
@johnpurdum81262 жыл бұрын
@@LoveYourRV That $6.32/US gallon for diesel, is what it is California currently and more in certain places!
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
Yeah California is often pretty close to British Columbia in pricing, both add quite a few extra taxes to the price. They must be raking it in as many times the tax is based on a percentage of the overall price. But I guess they have to pay for all the borrowing somehow. :( Oh well, maybe there will be less traffic on the roads, less polluted air and more spaces at campgrounds now. :)
@billdperry2 жыл бұрын
Have you had to change how long you stay at any one spot to cut down on fuel exspence? I could imagine California getting fewer travelers this summer.
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
We have started to stay boondocked in one spot longer but its more to do with the additional of a 36 gallon sewer tote this trip than fuel costs. We used to pack up and move more because we had to pack up to dump the waste tanks anyway. But now with a water bladder and the tote we can stay camped as long as we want and just get water and dump with the truck to nearby dump stations. We also save a load on camping by free boondockng or cheaper dry camping so have extra for fuel money. Have lots of solar so rarely need the gas generator in the desert. My 2018 truck gets about 30% better mileage than my old 94 dually so that has save a lot too. So overall this trip cost hasn't been much different than the past trips. Our most expensive year was back in 2011/12, we stayed mostly in RV parks as we had no solar power just gas generator for dry camping, the old diesel and fuel back then was up around the $4 a gallon dollar mark. Cheers, Ray

Question, did you have your Starlink set up?
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
I canceled my Starlink subscription back in early November. At that time they told me that my Canadian Starlink Dish could not work in the USA. They said they only licensed it for use in the country you purchased it in. They said in the future they may make it work between countries. But gave no timeline.
@skiimountaineer2 жыл бұрын
@@LoveYourRV That’s a bummer! I just read where someone else had purchased theirs in Canada and had the same problem. When you did have it and it was working, did you think it was worth it?
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
I wasn't upset as I went into it eyes wide open knowing at the time it was a completely beta service and had no promises. It was fun to play with the new technology and it worked better than I had imagined. In Canada, I feel for us it's worth it due to the high cell data costs and so many unserved cell areas. Especially in the mountains. It sure was nice to have a very fast unlimited unthrottled internet connection. In the USA it is debatable as they have some decent cell data plans and much better coverage. We currently have a Cricket MiFi hotspot 100GB for 55 USD a month and it usually lasts us the month if I turn our streaming to SD 480P vs HD. I can add data for $10 for 15GB. It has also worked fine pretty well everywhere except some National Parks. What would be great for Starlink is the ability to pause and unpause service as much as we like, sort of like Netflix.
@skiimountaineer2 жыл бұрын
@@LoveYourRV thanks for the detailed answer, I’m sure someone else is wondering the same thing! We just got ours up and running, at the house. We are hoping it will work at our local state parks where there is zero service at four of the parks we frequent. I was encouraged by one of your videos where you were in the woods and were able to find a signal.
@LoveYourRV2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for sure, that's its killer app, places with little or no cell service. Sure is nice there!
