Just for a little bit of context, Schaff: This atrocity (or masterpiece depending on how you choose to see it) is made by a brazilian filmmaker company named “Video Brinquedo”, which surely you’re familiar with by now. As such, the names of the characters tend to be brazilian names, and the foreign dubs don’t change them. Guto, the name of the little dipshit boy, isn’t actually his name, Guto is one of the short forms of Gustavo, like how Dick is short for Richard (never understood why) and how Will is short for William.
@Brasswatchman Жыл бұрын
According to etymonline, it's the result of 16th century rhyming slang. "Dick" rhymes with "Rick" which is short for "Richard," and I guess everyone back then decided they liked the sound of it. The more you know!

By the way, Guto is a common nickname for people name Gustavo here in Brazil (and since this movie is a Video Brinquedo masterclasses in cinematography, that's the reason) Same goes for the reason the Doctor says the french dude doesn't bathe, it's a very, VERY common stereotype because of some culture differences
