So, as others mentioned, the artwork on the album was made by Alex Grey, who's a good friend of the band, especially of Adam Jones, the guitar player. Adam is not only Tool's guitarist, he's also the band's visual art director and he's responsible for producing and directing all their video clips and their live performance videos and laser show (which I can tell you, it's out of this world). Adam is a former Hollywood FX specialist, who worked on some major blockbuster movies, like "Jurassic Park" and "Terminator 2". The more you find out about Tool and their music the more you'll like them, but also the more you discover about their members and their respective side projects (both music wise and also not music related) the more your respect for them will grow. If you do a deep dive into them you'll eventually find out why not only they're considered by many Pink Floyd's successor, but also why they're viewed in the music industry as one of the most influential bands of the past 30 years and why their fan base is so huge and devoted that allowed them to overthrow Taylor Swift as the number one selling artist when they released their last album "Fear Inoculum" in 2019, without promoting or resorting to any sort of marketing. Mind you, this was also after a 13 years hiatus from their previous album "10000 days" being released (2006).

I remember vividly when I first heard schism and saw the music video (the first time it was played on TV here). the second I heard that incredible bass in the intro I was hooked, and it just got more amazing as it went on. I'd heard a couple of tool tracks before which I'd liked, but it was seeing and hearing schism that made me go out and buy all their cds haha.

Favorite band and favorite album, well 1A) Lateralus 1B) Aenima. I love how yall are not pausing the songs while listening. Tool meant for their albums to be listened too straight through. Every song flows beautifully into the next one. I see alot of people suggesting to have the lyrics open while listening to them. I actually recommend that for a second listen and not a first. You don't want to get distracted and lose the beauty of the entire bands contribution. The music moves you as much as the lyrics. Their songs hit me differently every time I listen to them. Look forward to seeing the next reaction installment of the album. I was going to say the next couple of songs are personal favorites of mine, but that really applies to every song on this album. Tool does not have a bad song, which is mind blowing!

The small in between songs are what we call palate cleansers. Getting you into the vibe of where they're going next. That's why, just like Pink Floyd The Wall really listening to the album in its entirety is the experience. So you have that to look forward to once you finish all the chunks of the album.

Don't listen to Tool regularly, but Schism should be up there with Nirvana's 'Smell Like Teen Spirit,' (90's) The Beatles, 'Wanna Hold Your Hand,' (60's) Zeppelin's ' Stairway to Heaven,' (70's) songs that define and usher in a particular decade of music.

Yeah, I can relate to that. The first, I don't know, 20 times? I listen to a new Tool song is usually like learning a new language. I cannot even tell whether I like it or not because my freaking brain doesn't understand what I'm feeding it. Then, by the 200th listen, I know I like it, and by the 500th time it's like part of my DNA or something. Except for Pneuma. I don't think I'll ever be able successfully air drum to that one. Yeah, Danny Carey is pretty much the greatest ever now. He'll maintain intervals and shift it over a sixteenth, so his bass drum for instance, counting 1e+a, will accent the e and a of the down beat (1and3). I'm trying to describe what he does on Eulogy, anyhow... 😂👍 Tool is not a real band. They have zero throw away songs. Not one. Great thumbnail!!😅😮

@@MusicforBusyPeople maybe after the track is done so as not to take away from the initial experience, but a lot of these do have videos with lyrics so its easier to read along. These guys are just such a unique experience and every member is a master of their craft that it seems detracting if you dont get to read the lyrics while the song is playing since its paints such an incredible picture along with the soundscape. Im not here to tell you how to experience Tool but it does help if you relisten with lyrics pulled. Maynard is a brilliant lyricists and usually their songs have a pretty profound meaning or overall theme. The Grudge is all about not holding grudes and letting them go or allowing it to consume you. Schism is about the importance of communication in any relationship

I hear ya @ericjonesy71 but we only break out the big headphones when we listen separately. Dev's earbuds cost $300 BTW. I don't think that was the issue in this case.
@ericjonesy714 ай бұрын
@@MusicforBusyPeople I hear ya, and perhaps I'm just being a music snob or whatever, but high quality music production deserves to be listened to on decent quality equipment. Earbuds will simply never compare to good quality headphones. I have 3 different pair of $300 earbuds, and 2 different headphones, one around $300 and some cheap ones I take on travel trips for about $100. Even the $100 headphones sound 5x better than the earbuds, it's just in the nature of their inherent designs.
