This is so much fun. The entire point about Schmigadoon is that musical theater is gaudy and unrealistic but its still entertaining and has pathos, even when its leads are normal people from the real world. I am going to call it an instant classic.

I like how they’re parodying Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals. It sounds really good and like a musical they would’ve done. Even though it is a parody it is also done with a great love and respect for what came before

This is clearly made by REAL theatre people, FOR real theatre people. Love it. Thank you Schmigadoon team, and thank you Apple for green-lighting it and letting them do what they do best.

Yeah, I bet that FICTIONAL theatre people do not really appreatiate it as much as REAL theatre people.

@@credendovides20 I mean I kind of get their point? I mean it seems a lot of bad musical adaptations that get green lit kind of always seem to lean on the fact that whoever makes them just either doesn’t like musicals or doesn’t get why anyone would like musicals, and can’t lean into the genre fully. It seems like we have to constantly lampshade “oh wow everyone’s singing how weird is that?” Or has to go all dark and serious in order to be “taken seriously”. I do love that everyone here does lean into the silliness and especially during the plot when Josh and Mel try to point out the awkwardness it gets ignored by the Schmigadoon residents and we don’t focus on it too much.

My favourite number of the whole series. Keegan-Michael Key's "holy shit!" is the perfect timing, but the "and he says/and she says" way of the dancers to narrate is absolutely perfect. It's a pity that, in my opinion, the numbers on the first three episodes are way better than the ones in the last three.

The thing is. They are acting like stereotypes of the average male and average female in a relationship. A man who doesn’t want to commit. And a woman who doesn’t understand why he can’t share his feelings. He is basing his discomfort on the fact that it’s in public and weird things are going on. And she is basing it on it shouldn’t matter what’s going and what’s wrong with declaring your feelings in Public

Love the concept. The song and dance numbers are corny as hell...which is the cornerstone of the shows humor. It's like a Broadway version of Pleasantville...where you have a blender of Rogers and Hammerstein musicals as the comedic chorus, and our protagonist couple are the straightmen of the series.
