For the first minute/first verse, she's singing live. For the rest, it's the studio recording. You can tell because from 1:12 on she sounds 100% identical to how it is on the album, whereas in the first verse you can hear slight differences in her voice from the album version. It's understandable to use the recorded version once the kids come in because they'd probably have to do a lot of takes if they tried to do it with 12 kids also singing live.

This is a really impressive show but I also think this is a very specific kind of musical and aesthetic that they’re paying tribute to. This is one of the standout numbers from this series, largely because while it’s got influences from all over the musical theatre and cinema landscape, it’s not a direct parody of anything in particular, and manages to become greater than the sum. While KMK is hilarious as ever with Josh’s ongoing irritation with all things musical, this is an instance where it serves particularly well as a counterpoint to boost the energy of the number rather than a “musicals 🙄 amirite” kind of vibe. It’s like that little dash of salt that brings out the flavor, allowing for the bright perfect and ludicrously cheerful dancing to not only be a good sight gag on its own but also to really shine. Sometimes musicals sag a bit on film because the spectacle of a big live choreographed number on a stage in front of you doesn’t quite translate when it’s being recorded, edited, and presented in its most perfect and curated form. One thing movie musicals really really struggle with is the fact that, no matter how thrillingly modern the editing, the audience is always going to be in a different room, on a different day, reacting to photographs of the dancers, not the dancers themselves. It creates an uncanny effect rather than an immersive one like a live shows where characters are, for absolutely no reason, suddenly dancing and smiling like lunatics into empty space, even when they’re barreling the camera. This number does something really magical by making the performers as unflappably cheerful and peppy as their audience, who is himself a character in the show, remains stubbornly unamused. It’s a funny dynamic and a great way to highlight how good these performers are, because his refusal to enjoy the show becomes as silly as their insistence on performing it.

@@brucksz If you are interested, the American movie was based on a British television mini-series of the same name, starring Bob Hoskins (who gives a brilliant performance as Arthur). The British version is considerably darker than the American, and it was done on a much tighter budget, so many of the songs are clearly being staged on a shoestring. I found the British version overly long, despite being excellently written; I thought it would be better with about half the musical interludes, but that may just be me. If you want a taste of it, KZbin has a scene of Arthur's wife and two of her friends imagining revenge against men by performing "You Rascal, You."
