I LOVE my Schmincke paints. I was fortunate to buy a collection when I first started painting from an art student who had graduated.

Always fun watching your videos and hearing your thoughts. I challenge you to mix the brilliant opera rose with a few of your go to colors, especially the earth tones. It is amazing for mixes. I rarely use it in its pure form, but think it's a great addition to any palette.
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 жыл бұрын
Oh, will accept the challenge (and may even record). I think as a pure paint it will be better for small details (the "jewels") of the painting, like a neon sign, or something like that. And also flamingos =P

Thanks Liron, for the review. You are converting me into a pigment junkie! I wanted to keep my palette with no more than 15... well 20 colors but you made my mouth water that much as to order from Schmincke some dot cards and check by myself.
@LironYan

Haha I know exactly how you feel! I think that as a pigment junkie things can get a little messy. So the best thing to do is have all the pigments you want, but when painting decide on maybe 2-3 to use, so that you don't make a big mess (:

Gorgeous transparency! That is what I am buying ShinHan for! I am seeking a transparent ochre for skintones. Shmenke hit it! ShinHan has one in my new set, but I think t might be a little light. we will see!

Oh interesting - tell me how their transparent replacement is. I have to say I really start to love more transparency (:

Love watching paint swatches! The phthalo sapphire blue and perylene green are my favorite. I actually ordered them as fast as I could because they went out of stock at jacksons but thankfully quickly restocked. Did you tell schmincke that you have a KZbin channel and wanted paints to review?
@LironYan

Oh cool, we have a similar taste (I'll probably buy these too haha...). And yes - I contacted them to basically start building a relationship, and help with reviewing stuff and so on (:

Liron Yanconsky did you tell schmincke your KZbinr subscribers you have? Sorry for so many questions but usually the more information you give to a company the more you get in free product. And sometimes they base the free product amount on how many people follow you and you have a good following.

Liron Yanconsky next time instead of making them work to see your numbers tell them in the email! I've seen schmincke send hundreds of dollars in product to youtubers with about the same amount of followers as you. It Varied a little in amount but not by much and I asked one and they said they always include their stats and number of followers because it saves the company from having to do work but if they do check the link is helpful of coarse. Just a thought! I'd email schmincke again and ask for samples because you want to do an more extensive review and supply your stats because your sampler review got more questions to review more or something like that. I'd like to hear more of what you think of schmincke and not have to feel restricted to a tiny dot of paint. :)

Thanks to your video about being proactive, I decided to write to schmincke too. I don't have a KZbin channel and I was only hoping to get the brochure (because it looks so useful) and information on where to get the dot cards because they're not sold here, but they even sent these dot cards too! So thank you and thanks schminke! :D

I guess so. the thing is though that I didn't know this was even an option :D I wrote to Canson regarding their heritage paper a few weeks ago and never got a reply, so I appreciate Schmincke for doing this a lot. :) The art supply scene here is not that big, so I never got any samples before.

I've recently fallen in love with perylene colours, have to say Schmincke's perylene green looks fantastic. I think the phthalo green you got there is the yellow shade, it's one of those colours I can't really like much, haha... Thank you for doing the swatches, very nice to hear your opinions on these. Oh, and I don't know how the empty pans on Amazon are priced, but Kremer Pigments(kremer-pigmente.com) have them. I used to get them from a Chinese eBay seller, but found Kremer supply them even cheaper! If their postage is alright, it might be a better deal for you ;)

Oh yes I kind of like every Perylene I tried so far - funny. I already got the pans now, way overpriced for fast delivery, but oh well... (: Next time will check out Kremer - thanks!

Before you put the Ivory Black down next to the sepia color, I thought the sepia looked like dark grey; but, next to the black, it does kind of look like sepia. But, I think I like Daniel Smith's version better. When I first started using Daniel Smith's watercolors, I had ordered one its dot cards. The card had over 200 different colors on it. I've never used Schminke paints. It's hard to tell in the video; but, do you think that these are as concentrated as the Daniel Smith watercolors?
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 жыл бұрын
Yes - I agree with you about the Sepia looking a little dull. I would say that most of them felt at least as concentrated as Daniel Smith. The reds stood out for me especially, and felt a little better than DS. The yellows of DS felt a little stronger, but it could be due to the specific ones I tried.

I used Schmincke and love it. Mix your Phthalo green here with some of the new Quinacridone Gold and you will have the best sap green ever. Warm it even more with Translucent Orange. The best greens ever! I love having a Phthalo green that is not so staining. PG7 is not a green you can use alone. Its just amazing for mixing.

Do you happen to know the brand of watercolour paper they use for these cards? It really shows off the supergranulating colours better than Winsor and Newton rough. I’d like to get some. Thanks !

Love this! Shmenke is a brand I will love to buy myself if possible for some special occasion, and have to look for sales. I will want 24 ;-) I will be buying true cadmium red in the next few months. I think M Graham might be the best value in their 14ml tubes. I am looking closely at the amazon M Graham sets. The Summer, Jeweltone, and Quin set! The Quinachridone set makes me crazy! 2 1/2 oz of paint for just over 40.00...5 tubes! Shminke someday! I will buy a metal tin.

TerrieJ DimestoreDivaTV Yes - the M Graham cityscape set really caught my interest in the past (: May try it one day. The Schmincke are fantastic. I will recommend a 24 set, because I'm sure it will have some more interesting pigments (and it's a shame to miss them, they are beautiful).

rutile is a crystal, sometimes gold but it can be many other colors too, it's mined for the titanium but us crystal lovers love to collect it as specimens. the gold looks like fine hairs or even straw made of gold, it's really beautiful when in quartz. i think i saw a rutile yellow by someone else but not sure, may have been schmincke's as it was a pale butter color like their's. thanks for sharing the video, awesome colors, would love to see the rest of your dots swatched out. ;) you may want to purchase their green gold, i have qor's green gold and love it to mix beautiful greens and earth colors, maybe you have enough there to try a couple? i got your free book today and am loving it, very informative and love how easy it is to follow. happy to see your found a medium tin for your paints, lotsa room for more colors! too bad you couldn't find the pans there, i'm sorta shocked about that but then again we wouldn't want you too spoiled there. lol

Crystaline Dreams Haha thank you so much! Getting the green gold sounds great, as I really love the warm earth tones with some greens. I may do that. Will try and swatch them all out soon. I probably have enough quantity to try some mixes too (: About the pans - some had full pans. Some ran out. Some never had then. Haha just bad timing I guess. Probably ended up paying for then WAY over what they deserve but oh well... (:

:D about over paying for the pans, they are an item that seems to be more than what you would think it should be worth. the cheapest i have found them is buying in bulk on ebay from sellers giving discounts. jackson's art supply had the half pans for 25 cents each last time i looked there, which is a good price too (sorry i don't do money conversions well so all my prices are in usd). if you like the whole pan and tin thing tho be sure to stock up on those pans and maybe keep an extra tin lying around too, sure beats scrambling last minute for something to put new paints in.

hmmmm, just re-watched the spin doctors "Product Reviews 34a: Schmincke Horadam new watercolours for 2017!' from the first part of april and he doesn't have much nice to say about the schmincke green gold. qor's version is a single pigment so may be way different which means i can only say qor's version is awesome as i haven't tried any other brands and probably won't unless i find another single pigment one. still try mixing it and see what you think tho, i have mixed it with a palette of 28 colors and every single one turns out awesome no matter what i mix it with. and an aside here, i know some people worry about mixing qor paints with regular wc paints but it is fine but i do enjoy moving colors :D

Thanks for advice regarding pans. After this I should have spare 12 pans, so I will keep them well (: One thing that really interests me is mixing multiple brands. I got really weird results with the Van Gogh + Daniels Smith, which makes sense because one is student and one is Artist grade. Could be interesting to see these two together (Schmincke + Daniel Smith).
@crystalinedreams6039
@crystalinedreams6039 7 жыл бұрын
hmmmm i watch tons of vids and have never noticed anyone say anything like that before. what happenes when you use them together? the qor's are a bossy paint, if you put them in a wet wash they tend to push the other brands of paint around but if you mix them on your palette they work fine together.

Haha, thank you ^_^ You are on the right path. You bought some great stuff. The store I bought from the most in Israel was Arta, in Tel-Aviv (Nachalat Binyamin). Paper is indeed a problem. It's really important, and there's not a lot of good ones in Israel. I almost always order online. If you visit Europe or know someone that will visit, it's a good idea to ask them to get you some Arches paper, which is my favorite. Maybe also get a Moleskine sketchbook, because it's comfortable to keep all your work in one place. Paint what interests you. That's the best advice I can give you (and myself - I don't always listen to this advice). I guess my accent attracts Israelis, but also adds interest for native English speakers (: One last thing - check out Peter Sheeler's videos (especially if you don't know WHAT to paint). They REALLY helped me when I got started, and they are easy to follow and simple. Here's his channel: kzbin.info/door/ZWYIO-v3dYNkhBjxFEYZ0g

Liron Yanconsky I have heard of archers and moleskine, the problem is the shipping cost is way too high. If you have a website you can recommend me to buy from I will really appreciate it. I ordered daler rowney langton paper I dunno if its good , unfortunately the seller only had the rough version in stock and I lean more towards precise work on portraits of people and animals , and less on abstracts things. So Im thinking I will buy some cold pressed paper in the future maybe from israeli store called mai-art they sell cold pressed canson paper. Besides that, don't worrie about your accent it is easily recongnizable by israelis specially with that name of yours, but its very pleasing to the ears and quite soothing. Keep doing what you do and I'll keep watching. gonna check that channel you sent me and thanks for replying :)

These are not the new colors of Schminke. I think these are your new colors, I am sorry, I thought you were speaking about the new colors for the 2017 they relished. Phthalo green is a very good color when mixing with any warm for making greens. Also with blue for blue greens. Don't use it at its own. They produce the viridian now which is a G color but also expensive. I personally prefer the pthalo already mixed with something else which appears then under names like olive green, sap green etc. Almost every green Schminke produces is a combination of phthalo with something else..
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 жыл бұрын
Good advice - will give mixing the Phthalo with warms, currently I really don't use it as much (:
@metanastescafe9599
@metanastescafe9599 7 жыл бұрын
Remember, don't mix phthalo with warms and blue! It creates mud! Mix it with only warms OR with only blues! Then of course you can put these mixtures one near the other to show a warm bush with a cold shade for example.. I am looking forward to your next videos..
