Just a few tips from a real world railroader (CN Conductor). 1. Always inspect your brake hoses and perform a continuity test prior to departure, as your issue when first entering the industry was that you had no air on the train, only the power. 2. Test your handbrakes before uncoupling (This may not be properly doable in game but it is SOP irl) 3. You don't need to disconnect your air hoses prior to uncoupling, as that is actually very unsafe. They have 90psi in them and uncoupling them can hurt bad. They are designed to pull apart as you pull away, and the conductor should turn his head away from the train as they disconnect, to avoid injury from stuff being blown by the released air. Thanks for the Run8 content, always a pleasure!

Right on thanks for the tips! I overthink alot of things and screw up, I look at Run 8 like my 1st high school dance every damn time I open it 😆 The eotd not blinking at the first setout shdve been more blatantly apparent to me lol
@Deezle_Gaming3 жыл бұрын
While normally you would never disconnect the hose manually, it's best practice when playing on a server, because on a server if you just pull away from a cut of cars the air will not dump. Disconnecting the hose first ensures the air dumps. Hopefully they'll fix this someday.

with respect, to this day i have never found a single person who truly has a complete grasp of how to use run8 in a single player environment to actually "do" things (properly tag auto-generated trains, take them to the yards they should actually be going to, properly hump them, properly build locals, run the locals, configure the industries so they properly "process" cars and create empties, yadda yadda yadda.) the depot's config files are a great starting point but they're just a starting point. every "tutorial" i've watched or read is kind of a limited "i kinda know what i'm doing, here's some stuff you can do" thing because the learning curve isn't a curve in this game, it's a brick wall, lol. it's still a great sim though, don't get me wrong - the best by far if realism is the ultimate goal.

When setting off cars, leave the anglecock open on the car being left behind and set the handbrake. Don't bother manually unhooking the airhoses, they naturally snap apart safely without damage. That's the way we do it on the real thing... Just stand clear of the hoses. 90 pounds of air releasing from the hose would break your leg if the metal gladhand hits ya, but you wouldn't stand between the cars when the train is about to move anyway...🤪

Good video. Worth noting that F11 will let you climb on any ladder you are looking at and F12 will put you back on the ground. You can use the * key on the number pad to start a distance counter so say your train is 4000' long before you start hit that and it will increase in value for your count so if you want to pull forward 3200' this helps. You can also hit right-shift-* on the number pad to count down so if you are looking to count distance down say when you clear a switch you can then just simply ctrl-F12 to end align the switch and jump back in your train. But I'm a big fan of your V3 journey and hope you keep producing content.

BIG thumbs up, just the BEST video!! And it provided maximum value because you didn't edit out the bloopers. Commentary clear and concise and the information soooooo valuable for a two day Run8 owner. Certainly challenging and probably more so wading through a 9 page print out of the key bindings but have, via luck and ....... more luck, managed to run two trains so there's that I suppose lol!!! The goal, after watching you operate, is to get my speed with the mouse and key selection quicker because it obviously makes such a difference. Very pleased with the sim so far although a new computer has become a priority after seeing your 'vision' by comparison. Much enjoyed and yes Billy Bob is a potential axe murderer given the stare😂😂

I love doing locals in Run8. I've just brought back some processed cars from the UP Edison local (Y-BK50) back to UP Bakersfield yard, and I'm in the process of classifying cars based on what their destination tags are and where they'll eventually be going (I've got one track for northbound trains for the Fresno Sub, one track for eastbound trains for the Cima Sub past Yermo yard, and a track for southbound trains for West Colton/the Alhambra Sub). Eventually, I want to put some power on those consists and drive them to where they need to go. As a side effect of that though, I've already got some ideas to make realistic scenarios to TS20XX in order to make use of all that Train Simulator DLC I bought lol.

I'm still fiddling around trying to figure out "what to do" or if what I'm doing is correct. So far I basically just pick a "preset" from the trains menu, but those tags often end at places we don't have yet. like Chicago or whatever. So is the goal of running those trains to just run as far down the mainline as you can until out of scenery then it just disappears and you go find something else to do? Are there routes that have destinations you get to reach yourself? I'm very TSW minded in that all trains there had some destination and helpful blue marker on where to park them, hah. I just wanna deliver a train an hour or three down the mainline to a yard or whatever.
@TrendingHeadlinesTV4 ай бұрын
You never want to "bottle" the air on a cut of cars. You always leave the angle cock open on the cut you are leaving behind. This way the cut goes into emergency, then tie the hand brakes down. Real world conductor (BNSF) . Great video though.
@whippy1078 ай бұрын
So if you are running a local, does the train always just get shorter and shorter as you go along, or do you also pick up cars? What happens when you are done? Do you take the new train or light engines to the next yard geographically, or do you run around and return to your starting rail yard? I appreciate your entertaining and informative videos!
@chrisgross59257 ай бұрын
NS conductor here. It all depends on the day's work, but typically you will pick up and drop off cars as you go. Our locals all return to the yard they came from at the end of the day, and the cars are sent off to other yards on the system. That's how it works for us but it may be different in other areas.
@whippy1077 ай бұрын
@@chrisgross5925 I appreciate you sharing your experiences! My intention is to "assign" myself to a specific home yard to work from in the sim, so it will be nice to have a good starting point for after I do yard switching for a while. Your feedback will help me, so thanks again
