norcalgorilla - The 300F camshaft has a rated power band from 4000 to 8000 RPM. I'm making peak power at 5500, and it falls off pretty flat after about 6500. The next steps are going to be getting some head work done (port and polish on both the head and the intake) and an adjustable cam gear. I feel the engine could do 80RWHP with the headwork, adjustable cam gear, and some tuning, also deeper into the revs than it does now.

The steering wheel is a Grant brand Performance Series #332. It was only like $35 from Summit, and then another $20 for the installation adapter kit.

@MuddyHillz - Reground. They don't have new billets for a 4AC, so regrinding one is your only option. I pulled one out of a low-miles car in a junkyard and sent it in.

@This1swidit - Schneider is based in San Diego, California. Their website has a contacts page, with a bunch of different ways to reach them. Unfortunately, KZbin doesn't let you post a URL in a comment, otherwise I'd link it to you. Google Schneider Cams, and they're the first hit.

davis32689 - Schneider Cams are good stuff. You might honestly want to get a 260H or 270H cam, as the 300 is pretty extreme for daily use.

It was a custom made thing I bought online from a guy who was parting out his car. 4AC Headers are basically non-existant commercially. Racoon racing made them many years ago, but no one was for quite some time.

@rustydarabbit - I don't own the car anymore, so I can't really shoot another video, sorry. I was holding the phone in my hand while trying to drive, so the video wasn't the greatest, obviously. 1st gear topped out just shy of 40 MPH, 7k in 2nd was about 55 MPH. The first hard accel ending at about 2:05, ends at about 65 MPH I recall. The next time at about 2:25 is going up a pretty steep hill in 2nd gear, so it accelerates a bit slower.

i have an 1985 sr5 ae86 and i want to do this to mine. so all i have to do is take out my stock cams and send them in? how does regrinding work?
@JustinParcher555 жыл бұрын
Schatten Jäger - The 4AC engine in the SR5 is only a single-cam engine, so just the one to regrind. You could take the one out of your car if it is in good shape. I found one in a junkyard that was very great condition and sent that one in. Schneider Cams in Southern California did this one. I would definitely recommend getting a less aggressive grind than the 300F.

M19111A1 - I recently had it on a dyno, which I have in my other videos. It's making 70.5 RWHP @ 5500 RPM, which for comparison a stock 4AC dynos at 16RWHP at that RPM. It's an absolute blast to drive. There's really no accurate way to describe the difference in feeling between this and stock. As far as the fun factor, it might be right up there with a 4AGE.

how much more power did it let you get? also what else have you done to the engine
@JustinParcher554 жыл бұрын
In the description- "Cam specs are .415" lift (at the valve) and 300 degrees of gross duration. For comparison sake, the stock cam is about .213" and 203 degrees duration. Obviously, this is a much more radical cam than stock. Currently my engine is a stock bottom end, a Weber 38 DGES carburetor, Schneider cam, and Schneider double valve springs. Next mod it to build a custom header. That should allow more airflow through the engine, so I can use my full 8000RPM power band."

Not sure about the 0-60 time, I never really measured it. I would not be surprised if it was 2-3 seconds faster than stock, as the higher redline reduces the need for a shift to third to get to 60. All the engine mods did dramatically lower fuel mileage, as the car ran MUCH too rich below 3000 RPM, and idled very choppy. It wasn't very economical or tame after these mods, but that was obviously not the point.
@zexos133 жыл бұрын
What cam would you recommend with a dual side draft carb setup? And would an adjustable cam gear be recommended with any regrind? I know I’m a little late to the party lol but I’m just curious
@JustinParcher553 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure how the side drafts are going to effect cam selection if any. The 300 is probably too much cam for a 4AC, unless it's completely radical. Something less would be ideal. The adjustable cam gear didn't change peak power or torque numbers, but can in theory let you adjust a bit of when it happens. It wasnt much of a difference for the money, IMO.
