Listen to his daughter Natalie Cole singing a "duet" with her dad on "Unforgettable." It is outstanding. He was my father's favorite singer.

Cole's 1961 version is generally regarded as definitive, and in 2004 was the most-loved seasonal song with women aged 30-49, while the original 1946 recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1974. In 2022, the 1961 Nat King Cole recording was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.".

He was originally a pianist. A great musician. Apparently one night the singer didn't show up and he filled in. That's called 'serendipity ', because on that night a star was born!

There are a bunch of stories about how he started singing solo, but I've never heard yours before. I do know that in early days before he became famous, he and his trio used to sing in unison on some of their songs, but Nat wasn't featured.

One of the best. I still listen to this song each and every year. I have heard that Mel Torme, the writer of this song, said he never had to work again after writing this song. :)
@sudelaine8653 Жыл бұрын
Just to chime in, Torme wrote the mellifluous melody, and had a co-writer Robert Wells for the lovely lyrics. Speaking of Mel Torme, Schell, how about treating us to a reaction to him, preferably something where he does scat singing.

In 1961--I was 15 years old that Christmas. It seemed like it must have been an instant classics! (How old are you child that it took you this long in your young life to hear Nat Kind Cole sing! At 77, I remember when the radio was the favored format for entertainment. The Make Believe Ballroom... etc. Now I don't even know what kids listen to or how they get their entertainment.)

Loved your reaction. He had such an amazing voice. My mother played this so much, and it made her so happy. Thanks to technology, they were able to make a duet with his daughter Natalie Cole and him singing Unforgettable together! She was just a little girl when he passed. They did the same thing with Elvis and his daughter Lisa Marie singing In The Gheto together. Lisa was also only 8 when Elvis passed. Love your channel. I'm a huge fan, Schnell!

Nat King Cole just sang the song beautifully, no overembellishing or screaming. One other thing is that this arrangement has all the right chords Mel Torme put in the song. I've heard other versions that make me wonder if the arranger had ever heard this version because they paled in comparison.

S - Nat King Cole had one of the best male voices of all time -- he could sing the phone book and delight audiences. Now that you've "met" him, I'd like to make an unusual request...a Father's Day (June 18, 2023 in Canada and US) reaction to the 1992 virtual duet performance of "Unforgettable" by Natalie Cole, and her dad ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHOXe3uBnLOSf5o ). She performed live on stage. He died many years earlier and "joined" her via a video recording. This was a beautiful tribute to her dad.

Enunciation is the word for the crispness and clarity of his words as he sings. He’s not just a generational talent he’s a one of a kind in my opinion. He can perform almost every genre of music back in that period. If you want to select another of his songs to get a different feel of his music, try “Ramblin’ Rose” or “Lazy, Hazy, Crazy days of Summer “, some of his lesser known but very enjoyable selections !!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6ivhp6Zg9OIbKM His daughter Natalie Cole was a popular singer in the 80's, 90's... She released a video of her Dad on a huge screen singing "UNFORGETTABLE"and (another huge hit for Nat) she'd take some lines as well... It was such a beautiful thing to see, I was fortunate to see her in concert performing it live... I've added the link above, in the event, and on the side you can watch, I think you'd really enjoy the meshing of them both... His voice, his daughter together, it's emotional. Merry Christmas, dear Schnell, may it be beautiful for your family and memorable having Lil Man to share and create the most beautiful of love and memories.. Blessings & Love 🙏🏻🎵🎹🎷🎸🎤🤗🎅🎄🎶☃️

IN MY OPINION NAT KING COLE singing THE CHRISTMAS SONG ***IS CHRISTMAS*** all others, however good they may sound, fall short of this Timeless Classic Singer. I think, for me, THIS SONG THIS VERSION SUNG BY NAT KING COLE, IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS SONG OF ALL TIME as Christmas just would not be the same if I didnt hear this song.

New to your channel. Nat is considered a "Crooner"... he was, I think, one of the first. Two of my favorites, aside from this one, are: "What a Wonderful World" "Unforgettable," which his Daughter Natalie Cole remastered with herself singing with her daddy. Some other Crooner you may be familiar with... Bing Crosby Burl Ives Frank Sinatra Dean Martin... just check out the "Rat Pack"... all Crooner, if you like Nat... check these guys out.

I love Cole's singing as much as everyone here, but there are times when I wish he sang less and played piano more. He was a STELLAR jazz pianist!! His playing was even more unique than his singing. Some of the greats, like Oscar Peterson and Andre Previn saw Nat as a role model.

Those two songs are classics but there are probably 20-30 others that Nat made that were all in the same category. He recorded more music (on Capitol) than any other artist in the 1950's.. More than Sinatra, Bennett,Laine, Como etc. Capitol knew that he was that good and they had him record much of the great American songbook. The famous round Capitol building in Hollywood was built in the 50's and is known as "the house that Nat built".

For Some reason I don't get notifications when you upload not to sure why I have the bell on but still don't see when you upload
@Anson_AKB2 жыл бұрын
{this applies to all my subbed channels} for "premiere" or "live", i get most notifications (even multiples for announcement, 30 min warning, the video itself, and sometimes also a later upload of it), but sometimes with a delay of some minutes or even some days. for normal videos, i sometimes find them in normal recommendations first. and in general, notifications are pretty much useless for me when i only can see the last FIVE notifications (on my tablet as well as in the browser on pc) before they are replaced by new notifications, especially when 20++ are released during american primetime and i see them on the next morning, or after watching one long video. in addition, notifications about comments and likes also count towards this limit of five. a while ago, youtube kept the last 20 notifications, and managing them later from some list was easier by simply swiping to delete them permanently if a specific video was of no interest or when it was outdated in the meantime. now i have to use menus instead, and deleting is only temporary so that i see the same outdated notifications again and again on the next days.

most iconic ? what about "white christmas", "jingle bells" or even "feliz navidad" ? and (as with most videos on most channels) the contents often refers to only the usa and ignores other countries (title "most iconic song" and not "most iconic american song"), eg "Stille Nacht" ("silent night"), while this song may have rarely (if at all) been heard over here, it for sure is not iconic. nonetheless, i will gladly agree that the song as well as the voice sound really nice and fit (american) christmas very well.
