4K AWESOME 15 MINUTES OF TRAINS - Tallarook Station - V/Line, XPT, Pacific National, SSR

Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday.
Today the small railway station of Tallarook on Victoria's North East Line to Seymour, Shepparton and Albury is featured. Off peak the station isn't very busy reflected in the 90 minute frequency for the off peak trains. The station precinct was originally built in the 1870's and featured a goods yard beside the station. The precinct was rebuilt in 1978 after the branch line to Yea and Mansfield which diverted from Tallarook was closed. The Standard Gauge line between Melbourne and Sydney now runs behind the station platform.
On this visit you see express and stopping V/line passegner Sprinter and N Class Diesel Locomotive Passenger Trains, New South Wales Trainlink XPT to Sydney, Pacific National Grain and Intermodal and The ARTC AK Test Cars hauled by SSR GM27 and 442s2.

The Standard Gauge line opened on 3 January 1962 when the first through goods train, hauled by two S class locos, arrived at Dynon Freight Terminal. The inauguration of the passenger service was the climax of the standard gauge opening when the Southern Aurora left Sydney at 2245 on 12 April 1962, arriving at Spencer Street at 1230 on Friday 13 April 1962. Not superstitious were they!

@@Schony747 My Dad told me it was something to do with the new track bedding in . Interstate passenger services made money in those days . I remember lining up with hundreds of people & walking through Southern Aurora Carriages at Spencer St.About 6 or 7.

Thanks for the efforts here. Very interesting to a not involved in railways type engineer. The Trackwork looks rough though? Wavy, bumpy at joins? Not qualified to judge myself, but maybe it's all 'normal' ... Cheers!

Not a qualified engineer either. There was lots of remedial work a few years ago on the standard gauge so there were obviously some issues.

Standard Gauge, Broad Gauge and even Narrow Gauge. It all comes back to state run Railways and to stop competition from other states, there were different gauges. Fortunately the main interstate corridors are now one Standard Gauge. Thanks for having a look from the other side of the universe.

Great video again Is it just me or the freight trains between Melbourne & Sydney getting smaller & smaller & with holes still in them meaning missing containers. It has to be un economical for PN to run such short consists, especially with 2 loco's out front. By the way thst grain consists highballed the hell out of town considering it was from a stop start & going up a gradient. Nice camera work really enjoyed it

Depends on the train. The Perth and Brisbane are very lengthy. The single train from Sydney can be small at times. Large consists occur as locos go to Newport for servicing.

Green tubing would be for the AK Test Cars which would hook up when the GM is trailing unit.
