Quick more expansive explanation on Finnish school system using the chart on the video. You can mix upper secondary school and vocational school degrees together. The benefit of this is you get some of the book smarts from upper secondary and a profession from vocational school(I'm personally sad I didn't do this. I'm currently 23 and without profession). The next part is the higher education. I'm fairly sure there's no easy path from vocational school to university. Mixed degree I think can do it just fine. Some people might go as far to take the following route: Vocational school/mixed degree -> university of applied sciences -> University(as post graduate). There's also a lot of travel between university of applied sciences and university in general, for both directions. One thing that also happens is people who didn't do particularly well in upper secondary school can go to vocational school to get an "easy to access" profession. Most common route people take from upper secondary school going to university of applied sciences.

@@glewfw7989 The theory is very important however. I respect CS phds for what they are: Scientists. The distinction is the same one as between a scientist and engineer. One pushes the boundary of the field while the other makes practical applications with the methods and knowledge generated by the former. Programmers, the people actually making stuff are like engineers while the theory people are the scientists. It's kinda a problem because both fall under CS. I personally got both a BSc in CS and B.Eng (bachelors of engineering) in Computer Engineering from the exact same bachelors course. They just decided to teach both heavily into the theory as well as actually engineering hardware so they award 2 degrees at graduation. The problem is when people think CS is about programming or about theory. It's usually both.

Which, in my opinion, is worse than paying directly to the school, because _you can't choose which school you want to support_ :q Bad schools get the same amount of tax money as good schools, which means there's less money for everyone and every public school is low on budget, no matter good or bad. If people could pay directly to the school of their choice, they would put more effort into making sure that the school of their choice is good, and good schools would get more support from the community, letting them grow, while bad school with bad teachers would either have to put more effort and become good too, or bankrupt and go off business. And before you say that "oh, but then I would have to pay for school, not everyone can afford that" - I remind you that you already pay for it in your taxes, so if you could keep that money instead and choose which school you want to support with the very same money, you would be better off in your education right now. Sure, there might be people who are _very_ poor and really can't afford education (even if they didn't have to pay so much in taxes). But then there's that idea of education grants sponsored by local communities or pro-education charity organizations who could help them in such case. That's how education system could work if it really were about good education and not just state brainwashing drone factory.

About Rust: For what the templates are usually used for (polymorphism), just use type parameters. For what would've been a template hack in C++, use compiler plugins or procedural macros, which allow you to pretty much implement any syntax for anything. They work at the AST level so it might be hard to wrap your head around. For example, Serde is a procedural macro for automatically generating serializers for structs. I myself implemented a macro for automatically generating sqlite schemas for structs.

If you are not required by law to join the army, or you get exempt for medical/mental reasons, you can volunteer to the army or for civil service. If you go to the army mandatory service is 30 months for males and 24 for females. So It was intresting It's different that around the world, I didn't know Finland had mandatory servuce as well! Also, there are essentially two types of universities in Finland (although, like everything nowadays, I believe there have been a lot of push towards unifying everything, because nothing can be kept separate anymore for reasons known to nobody). I don't know what they are officially called, but one set of universities concentrates more on the "humanities" fields and the other in the technology fields, although there may be some overlap in what they teach. (The latter were for quite long in fact called "teknillinen korkeakoulu", but in order to differentiate themselves from "ammattikorkeakoulu" they now generally call themselves "teknillinen yliopisto"). While there are several educational paths you can take in order to study computer programming, the "highest" one is still going to a university of technology. Then there's of course an inscrutably complex web of vocational schools of different degrees that's so complicated that nobody can keep track of them (and the majority of which seems to exist solely to egregiously take advantage of government funding while providing completely sub-par education.)

The Finnish education system is pretty simple compared to the German one - we have 4 years of elementary school...and then the fun begins. The next layer (simplified) is Hauptschule/Mittelschule, Realschule, Gymnasium (of which there is a variety of flavors), Fachoberschule, Berufsoberschule or IGS/Gesamtschule. In some cases this entitles you to attend a Fachhochschule (FH, re-branded to "university of applied sciences") or Universität, in some cases not at all or only if you go to school type A first and then to type B after getting a 2 or 3yr vocational training which then enables you to get sort of a "high school diploma" that enables you to go to an FH or Uni - the latter requires the "Allgemeine Hochschulreife" while the former only requires the "Fachgebundene Hochschulreife". Etc. Etc. Etc. And on top of that, the nitty-gritty details of all that shit depend on the state ("Bundesland") you live in (some school types like the IGS don't even exist in every state) - and we have 16 of them. Good luck when moving from one state to another with school kids. I'm not entirely sure, but the German education system must be at least in the top 5 of the most complicated ones in the entire universe. We really like things to be as twisted and as complicated as possible I suppose. :D

@@DjVortex-w You think that I din't try that already? ;) That's the thing: lists of new features usually aren't good for _learning_ about them, because in order to understand something, one needs to know the _rationale_ behind introducing a particular feature; what problems from the past is it supposed to solve, and how exactly does it solve them. What are the _practical considerations_ of using that feature. When you should use it and when you shouldn't. How do they fit the bigger picture of the entire language. Also, some of those new features are very abstract and have very narrow field of application, they apply to some particular problems that might sound totally obscure to a typical programmer who never encountered them before (that is, it might not always be easy to understand for him what the problem actually is). Most of the resources I've seen are just that: lists of new features, or old books upgraded to support those new features, not something that would teach you the modern way all from the start and show those new features in a proper practical context.

A backup of a system can easily take several hundred gigabytes of space. One backup of my web server takes about 300 gigabytes, and the backup of my primary desktop is much larger. When I generate data for some analysis project, such as how to optimally combine NAND gates for a logic circuit, it can easily take several terabytes, although the data is temporary in nature. But it needs to be stored somewhere during the project. So yes, dozens of terabytes is not really that much in the end.

The dance circle(s) might have anywhere from two to a hundred people, young, old, male, female, any skin color, no discrimination. Some of the dances are simple, some very complex, some calm, some very fast, and so on. I am also very passionate about Hebraic Roots, which is a loose term describing Bible-believers who believe in both the Old Testament and New Testament, and advocate obeying the commandments and statutes in the former, whilst being saved _only_ by grace as taught by the latter, and who identify neither with Christianity nor with Judaism, but (attempt to) have good ties with both. I finished high school (Lukio in Poland) lately and rewatching this video now I see it's kinda funny how your voice cracks when you talk about your vocational school 4:15 - 4:55. And I could totally understand if you felt some difficult emotions connected with it. I am very disappointed myself with my high school life mostly for that obivious reason you mentioned, which is memorising useless stuff and moreover stressing over grades, which is even more stupid. There were people in my school taking part in Informatics Olympiad and I was sure I was gonna take a part in it, but... time has passed and whatever idk, Im just disappointed. @Bisqwit4 жыл бұрын
Men are stronger than women, and less emotional. Note that when we speak about such differences, there are always examples of women who are stronger than examples of men, and examples of men who are more emotional than examples of women. It is not binary, but rather a spectrum that follows a bell curve. And the centers of those curves are in different positions on the axis for each gender. These attributes make most men better at battlefield than most women - again, there are exceptions, but this is the overall trend. Similarly, these attributes make most women better at professions such as nurse, preschool teaching, and so on - again, there are exceptions, but this is the overall trend. It is also these attributes that make women seek professions that are generally less well paid than professions that men typically seek - again, there are exceptions, but this is the overall trend.

Of course it’s tax financed, but I meant, for the student. The service in defence forces was OK, although I never felt like I belong, rather always being sort of an outsider - a theme that persists throughout my life wherever I go. I was also sick a lot; I spent probably twice as many days sick as anyone else in the same platoon. Particularly, I always seemed to get feverish around or after the time of military camp trainings, and, after the first time (when I broke my knee), _always_ when skiing practice was involved. To the date, I don’t admit ever faking it. You cannot underestimate the power of psyche over the body. That’s also when I discovered that I have asthma, although it was officially diagnosed only 20 years later. Wet breath (as in, you sound like you have water in your lungs) is not fun.
