They should make the stop sign be able to stretch out two or three lanes like a train crossing arm
@ernestclements73982 жыл бұрын
As a retired school bus driver I agree that this is a major problem, at one point my Employer, ( one of the largest bus providers in the world) bought several new buses that were equipped with stop arm cameras ( that activate when the stop flashers are turned on) and we spent a week recording violators, but when we took the videos to the local P.D. For review and enforcement, we got turned down flat! The Chief of Police said, and this is a direct quote " Take them away my department doesn't have the time or resources to assign an officer to review them or to go to court on the tickets, we don't have time for this c***!. The cameras wound up being taken off the buses, and thrown into a box on a shelf, where they remain to this day.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but you could’ve gotten a lawyer or tried to take it to another cop or PD to see if they cared; also maybe the cops will be more accepting today of the information on violations that you provide

In North Carolina if you’re responsible for passing a stop school bus. It’s a $500 ticket and 5 points on your driver’s license.

On Long Island in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Many school buses are equipped with cameras that have nailed hundreds of thousands of drivers illegally passing with the red lights flashing. The first fine is $250. If you do it again within an 18 month period, the second fine is $275 and then $300. There is a point to the program but many drivers are also getting nailed with incorrect tickets. If you’re going to have these cameras on the buses, issue citations CORRECTLY.

I am one of those people who slow way down in the school zone and usually will even put on my blinkers. I think that comes with age. When I was a young driver, slowing down for schools just annoyed me. That said, School bus drivers are not always our best and our brightest. I've been cut off by bus drivers, I've witnessed then doing 80+mph on the freeway. Another trick they will use is they will cut a smaller car off = less than 10 feet, then slam open the little stop sign halfway in, halfway out of an intersection. So CERTAINLY put cameras all over those busses. But when you catch the bus driver speeding or driving like an idiot... FIRE them.

Buses in Texas don't go over 65 max on the HW with an electric speed governor, and I give way to other drivers because you never know if they arent going to yield to you! I hate when other drivers act rowdy because it makes us all look bad!

@@justanotheraviator2357 I live in Pennsylvania and these busses pass Mustangs on the Schuylkill. Though Im sure, even in Texas, 65 mph with a bus full of rowdy teens can get to deader than a doornail. Unless you lucky Texans also have seatbelts installed in your busses?

I’ve driven a bus before and I assure you, they are absolutely incapable of going over 65 miles an hour. It’s a small V8 in these buses, nothing more.

The main problem is that the red stop signs on the buses are way too small. They should have a great big red stop sign that people can see!!!! Wake up everyone!!!!!
@Dannny-Lee2 жыл бұрын
The stop sign on that particular school bus did look smaller than the ones used by the school district’s transportation department that operates in my neighborhood (Santa Clarita, CA). Not sure if certain states and/or local policies have guidelines or requirements for stop sign sizes, but I’m sure nearly all states have the typical red blinking lights as a requirement. I know where I live, the school district has a set of local school district level guidelines that is followed and used when determining where a bus stop should be place (like low-congested streets with a low posted speed limits). Some other On the other hand, schools that don’t have a local policies in place will usually rely solely on existing state-level regulations for guidance. I know a majority of school bus stops in Southern California are usually placed on streets with low traffic flow and on roadways with posted speed limits of 45mph or below. I can’t necessarily say bigger stop signs will be a more effective solution, since usually these stops are done on lower speed rated roadways and the fact that red flashing lights are followed up once the stop sign has been deployed, it should be to obvious to drivers. I just think drivers who are NOT paying attention to their surroundings and the roadway in front of them are more at fault, than the stop sign sizing.

They should only be 20 bucks and given on single lane residential streets. This multi-lane nonsense has gotta stop. Not everyone can see what is going on in there peripheral vision at all times. Plus people start driving dangerously now when school busses are around. Slamming brakes, stopping in the middle of the road because they’re worried a stop sign might pop out at any given moment. Just get rid of the cameras already and stop pretending this is about safety. See how much safer the world is when a man can’t afford to feed his family for a week because he got a ticket

Motorists, often in heavy traffic, get ensnared because they aren’t allowed adequate time to safely stop or clear the area near the bus at the split second the bus driver simultaneously activates the stoplights and camera. This predatory practice transforms school buses into mobile speed traps and school bus drivers into traffic enforcement officers (or bandits, depending on how badly you feel about it).
