Safety protocols for school bus drivers and a public plea for all motorists to STOP when they see a school bus red lights flashing. It's the law, please do the right thing and help your school bus driver keep their kids safe. It's our number one priority.

Yes, she was. Samantha followed the the safety instructions taught to her by myself and during the school bus safety presentation. I know these safety provisions work to keep our children safe.

New found levels of respect for School Bus drivers. Honestly Trucking is nowhere near such anxiety being we haul cargo NOT lil children. The only issue is Truckers are never home &/or hard to find Daycab local routes

TRUTH is that drivers are careless & do NOT respect neither Truckers &/or School Buses. Truckers know this to be TRUE hence we takeover the roads blocking traffic for fellow Truckers cuz otherwise they give us no ability to enter lanes & such

TRUTH… too many drivers are distracted to the point of causing serious harm to others. We can create as many laws as we want, in an attempt to protect and prevent destructive behavior…BUT…if there is no enforcement of the laws, the behavior will not change and we will continue to see more and more destructive behaviors resulting in more incidents, accidents, and fatalities.

Some people are always in a rush for no reason. It should be gospel to stop when that stop arm extends, and those red lights come on.

And, we run on a schedule. You can easily change the route you take or the time you leave to avoid the bus altogether. Realistically, the average stop takes less than 1 minute.

Hey Therese, I understand what you went through because it has happened a few times in my district thankfully no students died. Much less got hurt. But I do agree with you that you should always stop also because it is the law it is illegal to pass a school bus with the red lights flashing. Drivers need to stop for stopped school buses! They can wait! I’m tired of it and every bus driver is tired of it! If they’re that late they can get out of the house earlier! I do agree with you though if it was one of my kids that got hurt by a Driver who was a total shithead I Would get pretty angry.

We run on a schedule. If you don’t want to be stopped by a school bus, change the route you travel or leave 5 minutes sooner or later. Pretty simple solution if you ask me. And really, stopping takes less than 1 minute.

One thing is that I live in IL USA and my bus driver never puts her hand up or down and when the Reds went on and the bus was complete stopped I started to cross. This was in the 2020-2021 school year and a sports car came flying down the street and I was so lucky that I got to the other side of the road at the time because he went flying probably 20 to 30 MPH past the bus.

This is one reason why I stopped driving the bus. Because most of the time when I set my amber lights to come to a complete stop for the student pick up and drop off lights come on they like to blow the stop sign before a child could ever get off the bus. But when your in a car it is always their job to stop for reds lights. Especially if you see a police cars lights, a ambulance lights or fire trucks lights. You gotta stop for them........ So stop for a school bus too since they also have what we call precious cargo. Some folks don't ever think like that until it costs a life. Yes the bus driver does have to put the hand up and out upon giving instructions as to discharging the bus along with placing the bus in neutral and setting the parking brake and triple checking all the mirrors even with a turn of the head over both shoulders to make sure no traffic is coming on either direction.

School busses are on a schedule…If you don’t want to be “inconvenienced” by stopping when a school busses red lights are flashing, leave five minutes earlier or later. We won’t be there. You could also easily take an alternate route…otherwise, you need to stop. Yes, Aaron, red light runners infuriate me, and every other school bus driver. I’m sorry that was one of the reasons you gave up driving our kiddos.

Good evening, Julius. Letting the air out of the tire would deflate it. I generally don't intentionally release the air from the tires to flatten them. I also do not have access to our mechanics garage area and equipment, so I would not be able to restore the tire, once I released the air.

I am working on two additional pre-trip videos. One on my new 2022 BlueBird RE, and the other on an older BB dog-house engine bus. I do not have a specific date yet, but it will likely be before the new year.

I have seen one and when they were loading a wheelchair a car passed and I alerted my bus driver when he passed the stop sign and he opened the back door trying to get him to stop and he just passed on

Good job alerting the driver! Sometimes it’s difficult to get all the information necessary for a citation to be written. One more reason I would like there to be cameras on the stop arm, so there would be no question about the car or driver and the laws would be upheld. Perhaps people would comply if they knew passing the lights would result in a hefty fine. Good for you for helping the driver!

@@SchoolBusSass honestly more busses should have extended stop signs and cameras like you said and also there should be a device on the corner where students wait before crossing and when it’s safe to cross the driver uses a 3 position switch to change it to green indicator meaning it’s safe to cross if it’s red they are to stay in place that’s what I want to see on busses

In Ohio I believe you get four attempts before you have to start the whole process again. You will have to pay for a new exam for each attempt. If you pass pretrip and maneuvers, but fail the road test, you will only have to take the portion/s you fail.

Hi Liss… For the road test, the examiner will likely have three or four set testing routes. The examiner will tell you when and where to turn. The route will have at least one railroad crossing, and you will preform a crossover drop off at some point in the process, it the drop off procedure is done without actual student participation. Please contact your local test facility for specifics. The guidelines I’m sharing with you are for the state of Ohio. Though many test facilities have similar testing practices, there may be variations in the testing process, and I do not know any details for any other states. Are you training with a school district or on your own? If you are training with a school district, your on board instructor should be going with you.
