School for Scoundrels (1960) is a classic British comedy with an incredible cast that includes Ian Carmichael, Alastair Sim, Terry-Thomas, Janette Scott, Dennis Price and Peter Jones. The film is directed by Robert Harmer, whose other work reads like a Who's Who of classic British film, having directed such titles as It Always Rains on Sunday (1947), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Long Memory (1952) and Father Brown (1954).
Championed by film historian and broadcaster, Morris Bright MBE, School for Scoundrels is a worthy addition to our list of the 100 greatest films ever made, in our opinion.
A Film Talk classic movie review. FILM TALK is all about reviewing and appreciating the greatest films ever made. Each week we publish a new video reviewing and discussing a different classic film that is destined for our list of the 100 greatest films in cinema history, at least the 100 greatest films in our opinion.

It's always been a favourite of mine. Great British comedy stuffed with some of the best comedy acting talents we ever produced. Dennis Price and Peter Jones as the dodgy car salesman are just sublime.

Totally agree Chris. I remember seeing this film on the telly when I was much younger and have loved it ever since. Brilliant cast, great script. Super.

Dennis Price and Peter Jones selling the ramshackle 1924 "Swiftmobile" is great. Someone should 'find' and restore it:)

A lovely film….cosy Sunday afternoon viewing from when I was a kid👍 …. The moment when Ian Carmichael goes into the car showroom and the way Peter Jones and Dennis Price follow him in like a couple of old vultures is superb…great body language😀 and so funny. Then later when Ian goes back to the showroom,a great line for Dennis Price “ You can’t touch us we are insured”🤣 Happy Days😀

A great film, quintessentially British with that 'otherness' of the late 1950's and 1960's, and beautifully analysed to boot.

Simply brilliant film classic! No special effects and stuff like that - just sheer sublime acting. I never tire tire of watching this star-studded cast in action.

I used to beat my brother at tennis using Terry Thomas tactics by always putting him in the sun. Those were such great days so much fun.

Many years ago, Italian television used to broadcast black and white films at midnight, for a series about cars, in addition to this I saw in addition to this also "geneviève". Both wonderful English films.

Terry T deservingly became a national treasure of sorts. I’m All Right Jack & Privates Progress imo reflect the perfect trilogy of Brit nostalgia films of the period. In his own words describing the essential Terry-Thomas brand he said :- "T-T with his permanent air of caddish disdain ... bounder ... aristocratic rogue ... upper-class English twit ... genuine English eccentric ... one of the last real gentlemen ... wet, genteel Englishman ... high-bred idiot ... cheeky blighter ... camel-haired cad ... amiable buffoon ... pompous Englishman ... twentieth-century dandy ... stinker ... king of the cads ... All those descriptions added up to my image as Terry-Thomas" And didn’t he deliver it perfectly😎👌

A silly Ass, a Cad and an innocent pretty girl are the charming attractions of this beautiful and simple comedy. When you sit down on your sofa you know you're going to be wrapped in a cosy world, an uplifting escape from today. The film is a window into an imagined past with brilliant English sunshine and well drawn supporting characters, who add colour to the tale. Watch this on a rainy, cold and miserable day and your spirts will soar.

Alistair Sim's film career lasted even longer than Morris says it did. I remember Sim had a small part in the film Royal Flash, starring Malcolm McDowell, which was made in 1975.

School For Scoundrels is an absolute masterpiece. I think it stands the test of time, even though it came from an English cultural background that has all but vanished.
