One thing I've always liked about this movie is that Dewey never hesitates to let the kids be who they want to be or hit them with that pep talk when they need it. When "Fancy Pants" wanted to be the costume designer instead of security, there was no judgment or hesitation; Dewey just said "Of course you can, Fancy Pants." And then when Tamika is doubting herself before the audition, he was able to relate to where she was coming from and give her to motivation to do her thing despite what other people might have to say about it. Great movie with a great message. I never get tired of watching it.

So, the Puff Daddy line drop actually aged perfectly and they wound up on the right side of history. Cause when the kid suggests P Ditty, Jack Black immediately says No and shoots it down without hesitation. At the time, it was just funny because he's such a rock purest, the character would reject anything modern and not traditional and 'real' musicians who played their instruments and could sing therefore revered older acts by default and on principle. But now considering Ditty's decades long reign of terror of morals raps and endless crimes against humanity and arguably crimes against music, craft of singing, rapping, freak-offs, what. this part just landed squarely on the side of default corrective reasoning and all that is right and holy.

True story: In 1995, I moved into quaint, mid-century Studio City apartment building. 15 units, central courtyard, everyone knew each other by first name. A married couple, Kyle & Tracy, lived in an upper unit over looking the pool area. Tracy was a chef/caterer & Kyle was a musician. Kept hearing Kyle & a goofy-looking friend of his playing (live) music & singing. I remember sitting in the pool with a neighbor, looking up at that apartment, and laughing, wondering WTF is that? They were great musicians, but the lyrics were so weird! It was, of course, Tenacious D.

Of course this movie would bring a music lover like Asia to tears. Kids learning about Rock and Roll from Jack Black?! The perfect storm. I love this movie so much.

The best part of this movie, is the kids actually played the instruments, and sang etc.

I looked this up, Thomas Jacob "Jack" Black is his name. He is hilarious and such a fun actor. This movie is so good.

Music is just magic in real life magic. Think about how many past humans not ever knowing each other, but across the world, through ageless time, they all had their own music.

10:45 The "smart one" happens to be Summer Hathaway played by Miranda Cosgrove iCarly herself. That high 5 had me howling you guys. I hated putting together a clarinet

My daughter was about 4 when this came out, and this was one of her go-to movies for years . And I must have had to watch it dozens of times. Lucky for me, this move is good ! Same with Dady day care .

You know, I was watching this the other day for free on KZbin after already seeing it several times. This is good movie. I discovered that the guy who plays Freddy, the drummer passed away a couple years ago. Apparently they found many of these kids as locals in the area and many of them are still friends today. Miranda Cosgrove became the biggest star from them. Love y’all channel.

Still find this a good film, an I'm 46 now! Not that this film has an age limit, it's just an easy watch. Plus, the music choices were spot on for me. Loved you guys' reaction throughout watching this. Never seen you both laugh as much! 💚

all the kids in the band are actual musicians to varying degrees. you should check out the 10th year reunion. they can really play. the actress who plays summer really can sing. so when she was asked to sing off key, she struggled. You should also check out a movie called The Rocker. It is also good. this also has a killer sound track the actor who played freddie jones passed away a few years ago from a bicycle accident in Chicago at the age of 32. RIP

One fun background thing to watch is Black making a video with the extras from the battle of the bands crowd beg Led Zepplin to let them use the Immigrant Song for the movie. (Zep being a bit hardassed about that sort of thing)
