Another ex drummer here. I don't think a lot of non-drummers will fully comprehend the technical difficulty of playing that groove correctly. I think he modified the hi-hat pattern (more emphasis on the downbeat, less on the upbeat) but I don't think he made it any easier for himself. I played this song with my band in the early '80s. No comment on whether I played it correctly. 😂

as a drum teacher ive seen kids with natural talent like that, i myself did it for my first exam back in the day but its all rythm imo the combo's and the fills arn't that hard tbh. But its so very important to time it right or you fck up the entire song because the timing is so important not just for the flow but for the sound aswell. as drummers we were ment to be the beat maker the rythm nothing else but barracuda showed that drummers are even more important

@@chrismoody9855 as a *one* time drummer and LONG time ex drummer (still play for my own amusement - I have low standards, haha) these are precisely the words I was looking for. So many drummers on KZbin flailing around with their sticks, executing fills & cool grooves etc. but unable to match this guy's precision.Believe me, I know what that's about, lol 😐. But this is for me what actual professionalism looks like behind a drum kit. And that's why Sugarfoot Moffett is one of my all-time favorites. Not even a huge MJ fan but I could watch & listen to Sugarfoot play all day. MJ and Heart were clearly worlds apart in genre and I have no idea who Jacquez's influences are but for some reason this comparison came to mind.
