The. Kids. Are. Alright. The harmony between Ava and Savanna is stellar, and, honestly, almost too melodic for a song with this tune's grunge pedigree. Those two team up again on another SoR AllStar video, contributing transcendent, show-stealing background vocals for a really, really nice version of "California Dreamin'". Well worth checking that one out, too. And, like an earlier poster mentioned, both videos were recorded at Sunset Sound in LA. The production values are outstanding.

If you ain't ever heard this then it's a D- for you.. sorry.. but just try harder. They do a great job, if you hear the breeders try this live it ain't great. One slight gripe for me and I'm sure my insignificant opinion will have zero impact on the amazing existence that I'm sure she will experience.. but the singer's voice is a bit too generic rock sounding. She's young.. hopefully she'll find her own voice as she goes.

Recently I started to watch School of Rock. I was impressed, but I keep seeing even better videos with the SoR covering songs from my youth and they do a fantastic job. I dig it.....just different enough from the original to feel new, and just close enough to feel familiar. People always told me that "anyone can do covers" and it didn't really count as music. I never bought into that idea. A lot of musicians start out experimenting with other people's sounds on their way to finding their own sound. I hope these kids ignore the haters and doubters, and just keep finding and refining their sound and style. They're already well on their way. Definitely a lot better than I was at their age. Much love and respect!

I'm the same. I was the vocalist/guitarist in my garage band and I always tried to put my own tone and style into the covers we did. Imagine Black Sabbath played through a cheap 90's metal rig, with added pinch harmonics, wah-wah and Floyd Rose whammy action.

This song is cuckoo. It uses drum kit stands as instruments. The guitars back the bass. It comes to a complete stop. In a mixed band, the females are prominent. It makes feedback an integral part of the sound. The lyrics are insulting and endearing. There is a whistle. The song ends without warning. It’s like Kim and Kelley Deal purposely decided to break every rule of songwriting and performing. And make it a hit. I love this song because it’s just like me. Cuckoo.

Once again it's proven that the internet was created for people who have never accomplished anything to make snarky comments about those who have or are trying to. This is a quite legit cover. Is it as rough edged as the original, no. Give them a few years to have their hearts ripped out, get through a heroin binge or two, and generally be smacked around with the reality stick. In the meantime, they are just kids and they are doing a fantastic job on a great 90s tune that most of their contemporaries probably don't even realize exists, and wouldn't bother putting in the time to learn an instrument to perform if they did (since it's so much easier to edit samples on a computer.)

if they got their minds in the right place (which you're supposed to, once you accept this kind of exposure) they'll take criticism as fuel to burn instead of feeling butthurt, which serves nothing. music is a serious thing, people will always react to it, and rock and roll has been always this way. if one can't take it, there's plenty of good careers, safe from heroin binges, outside this business. if they continue improving, they might one day be praised by the same ones who once had criticized them
@deanroddey28814 жыл бұрын
@@gc8972b That's hardly the point. I don't care what you think the people being hated on should be doing, I'm talking about the people doing the hating. If it was coherent criticism I'd have no problem with it. I'm talking about envious, immature people who don't have the balls to put it out there, undermining those who do. If that does run some good folks off, that affects me, not just the musicians, because I want to hear them if they are good. And musicians are clearly NOT the most hard skinned people in the world, else they generally wouldn't be good musicians (or creatives of any sort.)
