That is true and especially if the line is drawn by how well you preform in school because if a student is not preforming well it's the teachers job to help and him or her grow and the students job to learn what the teacher is teaching also listen to and understand what the teacher is explaining or saying instead of focusing on other activities during class or trying to be funny in class(I never get why kids did that even when I was a student even in college).

I really never got this episode as a kid. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief that a car can be stolen by a student and parked in a classroom, and that a high school student can get a trial to defend themselves, but I am not able to suspend my disbelief that so many people, even his own parents, actually believed that Drake did this. Sure, he had the motive and possibly the opportunity, but not the means. If you believe a prank of this magnitude can be done by a teen with a D grade point average, I have a bear-repelling rock I'd like to sell you.

I like the part where you mentioned how Drake and Josh have access to Mindy’s transcript, which is indeed a FERPA violation. I never knew that when I watched this as a kid but now as an adult it’s interesting to look back at this episode and explore it in depth. For those who don’t know what FERPA is, it’s The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA or the Buckley Amendment). It is a United States federal law that governs the access to educational information and records by public entities such as potential employers, publicly funded educational institutions, and foreign governments.

Ahh yes, Drake and Josh. Used to watch this and Ned's when they first aired back in the day. This show was essentially about these two guys, one a good natured nerdy guy, the other a popular trouble maker became brothers (step brothers) when their respective parents got married. It was a pretty wholesome show from what I remember, the scenarios they got into tended to get pretty over the top and wacky but I remember liking it a lot back in the day. Not a whole lot of school episodes (usually there'd be like one scene there, that sort of thing). The ones that fit the best for you probably be these: Foot ball, episode about joining the school football team, with Josh doing it because it'll make him cooler. Smart girl, episode about Drake wanting to impress a smart girl who's on some sort of academic team Megan's New Teacher, episode where one of them becomes a student teacher under some sort of future teacher program Little Sibling, An episode about one of those big brother programs endorsed by the school Eric Punches Drake, One about rumors and the effect they have as they spread through the school.

This is another classic I'm glad to see here with you. This show is definitely over the top ridiculous but that's part of what makes it fun. A little bit of background here for you: Drake and Josh just became step brothers at the start of the show, while they were already in high school and had a distaste for each other. Over the course of the show they grow closer, but still constantly annoy each other, are at odds with each other, have a lot of disagreements, and polar opposite points of view on almost everything. There is also a younger sister, Megan, but I can't remember if she is Josh's or Drake's biological sister. She's a mean spirited prankster and is constantly getting under their skin. As with most of these old teenage Nick shows, the parents rarely show up. I do have an episode recommendation for you. I don't overly remember this show, but a few episodes do stick out in my mind, and one of them is season 2 episode 6: "Smart Girl." Would love to watch that one with you and hear your commentary on it. The whole student trial thing reminds me of an episode of Hey Arnold where they have a student trial for a kid accused of pulling the fire alarm. That episode is called "False Alarm" and is the first half of the 17th episode of season 1 of Hey Arnold. Anyway great to see another classic on here with you and to hear your commentary. To this day, Drake and Josh is still one of my favorite childhood shows right up there with Ned's Declassified. It's great to see fresh reactions from an actual school administrator! Also, while I'm no lawyer, I have taken a more recent interest in the legal side of things (thanks mainly to watching movie/TV reactions by Devin Stone a.k.a. LegalEagle). I think the major problems with this episode's scenario that you touched on from an academic perspective are pretty spot-on with the legal aspect. Assuming this trial is a parody of a criminal case, Mindy (the prosecutor) would have the burden of proving Drake's guilt beyond reasonable doubt, which she did not do based on the limited evidence shown. Also, almost everyone including the principal/judge is unfairly biased toward Drake from the start and the forced confession at the end would most likely be seen as badgering and argumentative (much like the climax of "A Few Good Men"). Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that out there. I love your reactions and am hoping to see more Ned's Declassified coming soon!

I remember I transferred to a new school for 7th grade in Algebra class I thought a project was due the next day I stayed up all night to finish it turns out it was due in 2 weeks but the teacher loved me for and my reputation spread for being a good student I wasn’t before that. I have seen honor councils on other kid tv shows and at summer camp we would sometimes do kangaroo courts so it may not be realistic but it is a 90s kids show thing. Love your reaction. So glad u enjoyed the show besides it not being realistic. This show has other pretty good school episodes including one where josh becomes a teacher that is a lot of fun. As well as a few episodes with mrs. Hayfer and a few with the return of mindy.

The one thing that Dan Schneider, the creator of the show, wasn't accurate about is the Criminal Justice System. For example, in a Drake and Josh movie, how is being pushed off the roof accidentally considered resisting arrest? In iCarly, one teacher was arrested by the FBI for 500 counts of illegal downloading music on the Internet. It's one of the things in the sitcoms that irked me, considering I do indeed have a degree in Criminal Justice.

Normally, something like that would be a monetary fine for the songs that were downloaded that way, I would believe that it would be, for example, $500.

Most of the time, the teacher is going to make some attempt to wake them up. I advise teachers not to physically touch the student, but to call their name or tap on the desk that they are laying on.
