In retrospect, I can see why most school nurses tend to have an attitude. Like you said, I imagine that like 50% of the students that come in are faking to get out of class or an assignment. I never put that together when I was younger lol

I remember one time when I was in Middle School I felt sick, I got sent to the office and laid in the clinic bed for over an hour just looking up at the ceiling the whole time. I got sent back to class because nothing happened. Then I go to class and I end up floodiing the classroom with vomit. The timing was super bad.

Yikes. Reminds me of a time on the bus where someone threw up on accident just after the monitor told people to ask for a bucket if they felt sick. I think it was either me or a friend nearby to alert the monitor what happened so the cleanup wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been.

Reminds me of when I was in the 2nd grade. I accidentally hit the back of my head really hard and gave myself a minor concession. They let me go home because of the headache I was having. My grandmother (who picked me up) thought I was faking until I started throwing up. The worse part was when she gave me some watermelon. I couldn't make it to the toilet in time and threw up on the floor vent.

Yup! Someone from my class got perfect attendance all the way from kindergarten to 12th grade, they got an award for it and the whole school applauded them since they were the first in our school’s history to do it lol

As a kid, the scene of Ned trapped between the desks in the sun terrified me because I thought he was gonna die. Even when I saw this episode several times as a kid, the idea still scared me. Mostly because Ned was alone and Gordy saying his hamster died from over heat.

the night guy line is more of a joke to the character it's just a reference that gordy is too lazy so he leaves it to a hypothetical night guy that may or may not exist lol

This is the first episode that I have ever watched from this show, so this has a special place in my heart. Also, its sister episode, "Spelling Bee," is my favorite episode of the show. Can't wait to see it in two weeks (if copyrights are corroperative).

That concern about perfect attendance is why I would often attend school if I was sick. Of course, it wasn’t exactly the best choice, as one year I got the flu, and the nurse wasn’t exactly any help because at the time I was only experiencing the minimal symptoms, and since I had nobody available to deliver my regular medicine to school, I was out of luck and had to stay in school untreated for the rest of the day. If I had felt any worse, they probably would have sent me home.

I remember getting sick in school, throwing up how i remember. Also I’m glad i graduated year 2014, pre-COVID and online classes to me i don’t know how I’ll learn without help, born at the right time. lol P.S. I remember doing video based work, meanly in History class, they have a documentary or movie on the subject were on., for some reason i can’t do those so well, i get to focus on the movie or so that i lose where i was on the paperwork we get during. At the end of the day i was rewarded “Yes i can reward” i had great teachers, i terrible at reading so in test or exam they give me reading help

All this talk about school nurses reminded me of an experience... There was a class in my elementary school split between 5th and 6th graders, often after graduating some of the now 7th graders would walk over from their new middle school to the elementary school, and hang out for a bit outside the school with their previous 5th grade/now 6th grade classmates... So one time when I was in 7th grade I had walked over and accidentally hurt my foot pretty bad - I had cracked my big toenail and there was a lot of bleeding. I limped over to the nurse's office at the elementary school. If I remember right, she told me she isn't technically supposed to treat me, which made me feel pretty bad, but also I was hurting real bad so I believe she ended up relenting and looking at my toe and putting on a bandage/ointment. After which I was able to walk home fine. I still think it was kinda messed up for her to mention that she wasn't "supposed" to help me - I was just a hurt scared kid 1 month into 7th grade after all..

My friend Rowdy who graduated as valedictorian never missed one day all the way from K-4 to 12th grade. He won the attendance award every year.

Gordy should really get fired for putting Ned in a ball, as that’s reckless endangerment. He could get one to two years in prison for that because it’s a class D felony.

I remember back in 9th grade i ended up getting Bronchitis due to doing the mile run in December and breathing in all that cold dry air. Im not sure if it's just a miami thing, but putting physical exams like that in the winter seems like a bad idea in hindsight

I’m from the Greater Houston metropolitan area, and I had a very similar experience. The only difference is that I got bronchitis in the spring (I believe in March), but it was for the same reason.

I did remember having to make up a week of work in 6th grade, (i got sick a week before winter break) It was probably the first time i realized being sick for a while can set you back. Luckily it wasn’t much notes to catch up on.

I remember in 8th grade. I was not feeling good. My stomach hurt, But i went to school anyways. I was not sick but i was not feeling great either. But a few hours later i got sick in the bathroom during gym class, my class afterward i asked if i could go see the nurse, and i did. I really didn't feel good, so i got sent home, before lunch, On top of that, i peed my pants as well ,so i had to borrow a pair of pants from the nurse for a few hours. it was not good. I still remember this. Sometimes it feels good to be sent home from school once in a while. I loved school though

The most memorable time I was sick and had to go home was in middle school. I refused to eat the cafeteria food because in the past some of it made me sick. Because I hadn't eaten, I ended up with a headache and my eyes were crossing; I was sent to the nurse's office. The principal came too, and she asked me if I was faking because my eyes were acting weird, which I had no idea, until she told me. She asked me to close my eyes then open them again (they didn't change). When they realized I wasn't faking they called one of my relatives to come and pick me up from school.

I've only been to the school nurse twice during High School. 1st for a bad sunburn, 2nd for a potential flu. Other than that, Elementary had me going there daily to get my ADHD medication.

@@garyroberts6668 It could be both. I remember during Covid I was the only one who didn't get infected at my house, despite all of us getting the vaccine. Even when dealing with the other household members sick around me, I pushed through healthy.

Man, the timing of this video! I work behind the scenes for my college music department’s production of The Bridges of Madison County. Opening night was supposed to be tomorrow night (as of the time I’m writing this comment), but then 3 cast members tested positive for COVID. 🙃

Here's a funny story. So, when it was cold out and we would visit my grandmother's house I would sleep on the heating floor vent. My mom and I slept over one night and my mom thought I was sick because I felt hot. I told her it was because I slept on the vent, but she didn't believe me. She called my school and told them I was sick and was staying home. I few minutes later my body temperature was back to normal. She asked me what happened and again I told her it was because I slept on the vent. She said since she already called the school, I was staying home. So, I got a free day.

Oh boy this episode. It sure stood the test of time for sure especially with the You know what pandemic. Another tip I have that wasn’t included in this episode is If you miss to many days of school and are falling behind ask your teacher and maybe do what’s called Tutoring after school. True story I ended up having to do a bit of tutoring during the final couple years of high school due to having Bad seizures let’s just say it was so bad that my body shook hard enough to where i slipped out of the a chair during reading class and onto the carpet. Luckily i got medical attention got help and am doing much better. But I defiantly lost a couple months of attending school when I was recovering. So tutoring Is also possible if you are falling behind like I was due to medical trouble or having trouble getting over that cold

I remember back in high school my nurses room had more than one bed, with curtains and everything, and yes I can relate, sometimes I’d actually go to nap when I was just too tired to know I was at school, I’m usually still asleep at 6 almost 7 and I wake up at around 10,11 or 12. You guys are torturing my soul, sleep is a godsend to me. I like you but sometimes school irritates me and my sleep schedule lol😂😂😂😂 If you truly care you’ll let me sleep, but jokes on you I’m not from Georgia lol. Is there a school record for attendance anywhere? Don’t you keep a world record book for this stuff? Also Mat Hoffman is a real cyclist

When I worked at krogers before I went back to school to become an electrician, one of my coworkers had flu A during the holidays of 2022. She showed up to work sick, was later sent home but I was clocking in and she went to the time clock. I was perfectly fine, but the next day later I had flu A. Which was one at that point I went almost a decade without getting the flu.

I’ve heard of this one time a school closed down for a day and they said it was a bad weather day, but it was actually because of a lice epidemic. I don’t know what motivated them to lie, but I didn’t care because it was still effective.

There's no school nurse here; if a student is I'll or injured, their head teacher (kind of like a homeroom teacher; they're in charge of a single class) calls the parents to take them home or to a doctor.
