I was so glad that applications this year the GRE was optional for Wisconsin! I hope they continue this trend. The only benefit I can see to taking it is showing your writing and critical thinking skills.

That's so nice they made it optional! Yes, definitely a good point to take it too, just my math skills are the reason I didn't like it 🤪

@@rachelferagne2188 Same! Just like you, the last math course I had taken was 4 years prior. And it was statistics so not even graphs or anything haha.

I am applying to clinical psychology doctoral Psyd programs and I literally (today) just BOMBED MY GRE TEST 😭😩. I have not recieved my analytical writing score yet, but did AWFUL on the verbal/quant. I barley had time to study due to work and being in school full time. But, I do have a high current undergrad GPA (3.87) and have in field clinical experience, polished my statement of purpose, obtained three good letter of recommendations. So I am PRAYING that those good factors will outweigh my horrible GRE scores 😔
@rachelferagne21883 жыл бұрын
I bombed the math portion of the GRE and was so worried about that so I feel you!! I ended up writing in my personal statement how I don't think those scores accurately represent my abilities and I ended up getting into my program, so I think as long as they don't solely rely on those scores you will be fine!!
@kathyfigueroa30943 жыл бұрын
@@rachelferagne2188 I have thought about including that briefly in my personal statement as well, but, the programs that I am applying to all have specific prompts that we need to address. So I am wondering if it will look weird to just throw in there about my low gre scores 😖.

What do you feel about your MA in Counseling? Have you ever tried to do anything with that? Im starting to like counseling a whole lot more than the thought of School Psychology tbh. Any replies is appreciated.

Hey Rachel, I know you speak about taking the GRE for getting into to grad school but can you talk about taking the school psych praxis? Or do you already have a video on that?
@rachelferagne21883 жыл бұрын
I think I mentioned more about the praxis in my last Q&A, but if not I can definitely add that to my next video!

You are absolutely right lol it was your first topic. My apologies. Thank you for sharing your insight. I am currently studying to become a school psychologist. I guess I’m in the specialist portion. You’ve helped me so much during this process.

Can you talk about the process of switching from RI to MA? Do you have to be licensed in mass before starting your job? I would like to move from NY to MA but I’m not sure how it works. Thanks!
@rachelferagne21883 жыл бұрын
Yes I had to get my MA license before I could officially start working! The only thing I had to do was take the MTELs (a reading and writing test), and then I was all set! If you go on the NASP website, they have more info about each state's requirements.

Hi Rachel, I am currently applying for graduate school and am considering RIC. I saw that they require a performance-based evaluation. Can you give me a better understanding of what that means?

Thanks for sharing, I enjoy watching your videos. I am excited to say that I got accepted into the program I interviewed for. I have a special request regarding your school bag. I’ve already purchased my books but not sure what type of purse, bag, backpack, or briefcase to use for this three year program. Do you have any suggestions? Also, what type of bag did you use?
@rachelferagne21883 жыл бұрын
Congratulations!! So I used a Vera Bradley large tote bag! I liked it a little better than a backpack, but either of those would probably be best!

This fall for my undergraduate internship I'm shadowing the school psychologist at my high school and middleschool. do you think that grad schools would take that as a positive ?
@rachelferagne21883 жыл бұрын
Definitely! That is a great opportunity that grad programs will love to see on your resume!

Hi! I am applying to school psychology programs in the upcoming cycle and your videos have helped me out a lot :) I am super excited and everything that you’ve said about the job in your videos makes me think I’ll really enjoy it. For one of the programs that I’m applying to, I need to interview a school psychologist. I would love the opportunity to ask you some questions about your job on the phone, a zoom call or even just a google doc. If you’d be willing to consider helping me out, could I contact you via email?

Schools around here don't even care about GRE. It is a poor predictor of grad school performance
