@@al_exists It's a private school, they have the right to set dress codes. Note, despite the family of this one girl saying that they were not contacted about the dress code change, other parents that were asked about it verified that they were all notified over the summer, and that they were told again during the meet-and-greet before school started. So for their story to be true they had to be the one family that somehow did not receive the letter and that the school somehow forgot to mention at the meet-and-greet. This seems absurd. Not sure how they can tell if a student has extensions or not. Many black girls wear braids to protect their hair therefore that rule that was created by old white men that don't understand the style is to protect natural black hair especially if the children desire to swim or participate in other activities that would alter the hair. It would be nice to actually consult other races when making rules that would oppress them.

They can easily remove that rule but they want to make an example out of us to prove a point that has been proven for years. School is not like it was before and is not safe either. So why spend all this money for private education only to have your child still treated like a public school hoodlum. I wrather save my money and teach my kids myself, and we get to bond on a different level, you can regulate who they hang out with better, and keep better tabs on the before/after courses so less worry about school fight or worst/etc.

You do not go there as individuals expressing your personal preferences and individual style. You go there as a part of student body, belonging to something bigger than yourself. Do you think the other children do not have their own preferences too? And their own insecurities and hang ups? Of course, everyone does but hey that's where the rules come in, everyone has to follow them and in doing so there is cohesion, focus can be on education rather than competing in trends and fashion. If she wants to subscribe to the victim black mentality and believes her natural hair is not good enough she should go to a public school, if she believes she is more than her hair she should follow the rules of this school. I am not the one telling young black females that their natural hair is bad and needs to be hidden, have fake hair put in it or have it chemical changed and damaged. Nor is this school. That comes from a large part of the black community, insecurities and self doubt passed down from mother to daughter. Embrace your hair as it is in its natural state, you are a school child who has an education to be receiving and do not need to be worrying about vanity but getting good grades that will open many doors to you!

Why is the word racist so easy to use? Just because someone does not agree with you that does not make them racist. There are gangs trying to take over schools and keep people from getting an education. This might be one way of keeping gangs out and students like you in. Come on. You are too smart to let something like this to mess with your education. Hang in there. I agree when you are young school is tough. But the day you graduate. You will look back at this and say you got over this hump. Now you have your future in front of you. Remember. Just because someone is a different color or does not think the same as you. They are not racist. That teacher might be a little hard on you because that teacher might see something in you and wants to keep you in check so you don't get off on the wrong track. Ask that teacher if you two can talk. Just one on one and tell her how you feel. You are worth it. I hope you know I don't even know you and I think you are worth it. All children are worth it. As an adult that teacher might not know how she is coming off to strong unless you talk to her. Misunderstanding each other is a simple thing to settle with just saying to someone " You know, when you say something a certain way it makes me feel like you do not like me." Let her know how she makes you feel. I think you two just misunderstand each other. Keep it friendly. Stay calm no matter what. Show her you know how to act like an adult and she and everyone around you will treat you like an adult. I don't even know you and I do care.

It's a Church school, and because of that it's supports being natural.its not being racist or biased but rather trying to enforce the teachings of humility and simplicity. Yes her hair was appropriately done but with extensions which were against school rules. Complaining that it is wrong for a school to require it's pupils to be natural is as clear as saying "you always need extensions, your natural hair is not good enough" everyone is so quick to pull out the race card without looking at the situation objectively

Do you realize people black, latino,Indian, native american and whites have been using braids for protective styles for centuries from Lithuania to Latin america to Africa . Braids also can be kept in for a long time depending on what kind you get in fact if all the girls we required to wear braids they would be out their doors in 5 minutes tops every morning.why make things harder for people not everyone can afford for someone to style there hair every morning let alone making people with fine or course hair damage their hair with heat styling .This is a total far right wing agenda to control people's body's.Why take a style away that everyone wears in nola unless it's to fit this agenda.

@@warpnin3 that’s a great question! it’s actually great for protective styles 👍🏿! Our hair is super fragile and can easily break off because we dont absorb moisture like a type 1,2, or 3 hair. So because extensions are added the way it’s braided it almost seal ours hair with the extensions, our scalp is out so it’s easier to add oils which will moisturize our hair.

It may have been the rules, however the rules were clearly in the spectrum of racism and discrimination. To say that her hair (which is what she was born with) is not "acceptable" and she needs to conform her god given birth traits to seem "less then of a distraction" or even "threatening" in these educators eyes is quite absurd. Even a blind man can see that her hair posed no threat of either accusations.

Clearly one with such a foul name and mouth to match would emulate that of a Neanderthal. There are a few issues that you have overlooked. One- it may have been the rule however, It was apparent in the video that the parents were NOT notified of the hair policy. It could have been a misunderstanding, however, the school was clearly out of line in sending a child who's hair posed no intimidate threat nor distraction. My question is, why was this child not allowed a fair warning? Should the school had the decency to even call the parent for such accusations, the story could have swayed in a different path. The educators (or lack there of) handled the situation poorly, and that was evident. And do trust that issues like this will only fuel the aggravation that color minorities face, and will only further divide black AMERICANS with white Americans with the apparent rise of colorism. While I do enjoy having a civil, and quite engrossing discussion with one who has a brain capacity of a baboon, I must insist that you put more.. effort, in your limited ability or shall I say, capacity to write such amusing statements.

There's a controversy like that going on in the town of Mont Belvieu, Texas -- which, in a very fascinating coincidence, happens to be my mommy's teaching campus (she teaches middle-school kids). The boy & his family at the center of said controversy, sued the state of Texas for discrimination, only to have their case knocked down. :-( They're not giving up, though, & I hope something eventually gets done about it to resolve the issue in a satisfactory & positive manner. 👍

Black peoples hair is more coarse and their hair folicals are more oval shaped ... and it breaks off before it can become long... therefor more black women wear extensions than white women to have longer hair in a lot of cases. I think she looked beautiful and very appropriate for school. This rule is not fair and will effect more black women than white women.
