Peter Kay is a treasure. His jokes are based around Northern working class family experiences usually from a few decades back. I hope that younger folk, Southerners and other folks around the world can catch the accent, understand the dialect and relate to the experiences because he's soooooooo funny and his humour is absolutely good-hearted, everybody should be able to access it.

Agreed. I’m in Wales, very similar background growing up and get the humour completely. Sometimes it’s as if I’m there with him, he’s describing my memories that well!

He is my all time favourite comedian. No-one touches or comes even comes close to him. I watched this concert on DVD and this part of his show literally had me laughing so hard that I began to struggle with breathing. I had to leave the room and go into my garden to try and calm my breathing, but I kept thinking of the thick table and the laughing started again. It took me a good 20 minutes to gather myself and return to watch the remainder of the DVD. I can say without any doubt, that Peter Kay is thee best comedian to grace our screens and concert stadiums. The range of characters he has created and sitcoms are just pure magic.

I remember when the technology teacher wheeled in the big TV & went in the staff cubby hole in between two classrooms for a cuppa. He came back to find that someone had switched the channel & we'd been watching Rab C Nesbitt all lesson.

Hilarious, so true! Jeez, for misbehaving, you would get the cane, either across the hand, or on the bum. Another special, six of the best, on the bum, with a plimsoll! Board dusters, pieces of chalk thrown at you..never mind political correctness re what teachers said to you then, what they did to you physically, and was accepted, would now be tantamount to assault! Happy days though.

Nigel James What about being forced to eat everything at mealtimes? Not so much a punishment for perceived wrongdoing or recidivistic behaviour as a rule that applied to everyone - no exceptions - staff misheard you when you said “No sprouts” or whatever you didn’t want - then they would pile them high on the plate and expect you to eat all of them or no pudding!

We had a cookery teacher in high school in the 1980's, a black lady, we called her mrs eccucumber. She went out of the room once, so everybody who had a watch moved the time on by 1/2 an hour, the clock in the classroom also. We all went home 1/2 hour earlier, silly old bird thought her watch had stopped!

Whatever It Takes Why does it affect you so much? A descriptive term isn’t offensive, it’s merely a way of picturing a character. If anything it helped me build the character in my head more. If he had used the N word or something then yes it would absolutely be offensive.

@@whateverittakes5572 why did he have to mention she was a woman? Or a teacher? Or that she thought her watch had stopped? Could have just said “we had this human once” not offended anyone and ended the perfectly funny story right there.
