Kids just being kids, playing together, wonderful to see. Getting fresh air, outside every day. No overweight kids, this is how it should be.

I couldn't stop thinking of the high school boys of 1941 in this film who would soon be fighting in WW2. Looking at their carefree smiles and wondering how many survived the war. The elementary school kids reminded me that kids are kids, no matter what year it is. They had their buddies next to them and you could see the class clowns "hamming" it up for the camera. This was an enjoyable film to watch.

The School is still there and my Uncle who served in Korea is in the playground shots.

Beautiful old schools and most are still in Paulsboro today - they certainly don't build them like that anymore! And what blows my mind is those students are either the most senior of senior citizens or are no longer with us. Overall a sobering reminder that time just keeps marching on. Very cool video!

Nice to see everyone playing and getting alone, not dressed like bums to go to school. Nice to see all races. Not a lot of over weight kids. Kids just enjoying each other. That boy with the bataan was pretty good.

Would love to know where you got this footage. I've been a resident of Paulsboro since 1988. I was trying to recognize anyone I could, but really couldn't tell. The town sure has changed a lot since then. Too bad more of the actual town wasn't shown. I'm sure this has to be precious footage for some of our older residents. Thanks for posting. 👍

@gregggoss2210 this film was one of roughly 5000 home movies we rescued from destruction during the pandemic ... they had been bought by a collector in SoCal who had to go to a care home. You can see the video we made about their rescue at kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5mtenyerdOalaM

I'd love to spend just a day in this time. I was born (in the UK) about ten years later. Many of these kids would be off to Vietnam in twenty odd years time :/

More like the Korean War than Vietnam. Either way, it’s still war. Looking at the high school boys in 1940, I couldn’t help but think they all ended up on a Guadalcanal Beach a few years after they appeared in this film.

Depression Era folks getting reading for WWII and eventually Korea and beyond. There's a certain innocence and simple way of living in that generation. The kids are so joyous even though they and their teachers had to go without over that era.

Its sad. Imagine being a black kid, in the early forties, playing baseball, dreaming of playing for the yankees, and realizing, I'm not allowed to play for the yankees

After watching this glimpse of small town Americana, Its sad that out of all the other cards, thats' the card you play. Imagine being an educated white kid in 2025 and being told you can't have the job because your not a minority. Racism will stop when we stop digging it back up.
