In a field, philosophy, so often dominated by contemplation of lofty abstract metaphysics which to be sure Schopenhauer was no stranger to himself, he was for all that also such a powerful observer of what it's like to be a human being in day to day life. He never allowed his writing to become fully untethered from the practical like so many other thinkers do. Hegel is obviously a classic culprit here and Schopenhauer would obviously have been the first to level this charge at him, as he often did.
