I just bought one, today in fact, because I thought that the small blade might be good for detail work on a whittling project. It wasn't very sharp out of the package, but took a good edge with a little work on a whet stone and a strop. The blades are tight with no slop in the pivot. The spring is stiff enough that I don't worry about the blade closing on my fingers. It's small enough to carry in a pants pocket, but not so small as to be hard to handle. I'm excited to see how it carves, and how the edge holds up.

Schrade makes a six blade carving knife, the 240t. If you Google Schrade carving knife, it comes up. Also, I love using a sowbelly for whittling. It fills your hand better, resulting in less fatigue. Thanks for watching 👀 Garth 🙏

An affordable classic. They’re not “tacticool”, or made with the latest and greatest super steel, but these sorts of cheap, working man knives helped build America. Millions of grandpa’s can’t be wrong.

Slipjoints, they just grab your heart and won't let go. It's kinda of the way I feel about my kids. I don't know why but I love them 😁

Very cool video. I've been falling down the old timer rabbit hole myself in last few months. They're really well made knives period, but when you take into account the cost, they're an absolute steal!!! I sub'd to your channel too. Best wishes

Thanks brother ☺️. Schrade/old timers are made by Smith and Wesson now. Solid choice.

Thanks for that information. I have been distracted by modern knives and makers and life really so I haven't paid any attention to Schrade, other than a camp set I bought from Sportsmansguide. Without knowing 2023 Schrade, it performs well. A large fixed blade outdoor adventure knife...it's far from a survival knife...a camp knife I guess and a solid frame camp axe. I guess the reason I haven't kept up is that I have several Old Timers put up that are new, old stock from the late eighties/early nineties. I still carry a slip joint Case Trapper from the eighties but I'm a little upset with Case. I have a Case 3 blade Stockman with a broken spade foot blade that I can't seem to get repaired. That blade should have never broke. I even offered to pay and got ghosted. They sent me some emblems that fell off and got lost. Thanks for doing this video!

Oooh, love Sportsmans guide. Yeah I was curious as to what S & W was doing with Schrade so I got it. It's unrefined but solid. Case kinda gets me riled too. I've edced them hard but never had a problem. I think you can have problems with any knife. Try just sending it back. They'll probably just replace it. Thanks for watching.

They do seem to be doing a pretty good job on Old Timer. A lot of people are buying them.👍

Starting in 2023 there supposed to be making them in the US again.
