I can hear some mistakes, too. That's the beauty of a live performance. We all make mistakes. I agree with the other comments; this is well done and beautiful. Thank you.

At the age of 20, Schubert put to music a poem by Matthias Claudius entitled "Death and the Maiden". The lied portrays a maiden begging for death to pass her by, and Death trying to persuade. The words from his song and Claudius's poem are as follows: Maiden: Stay away! Oh, stay away! Go, fierce Death! I am still young, please go! And do not touch me. Death: Give me your hand, you beautiful and tender vision! I am a friend, and come not to hurt you. Be of good cheer! I am not cruel, You will sleep softly in my arms!

Agreed. A great job of microphone placement and balance by the performers. I've helped produce bluegrass bands and balance with a simple two microphone set up is one of the great challenges in recording and production.

The Maiden: Pass me by, o pass me by, Go wild skeleton! I am still young: go, dear one, And touch me not! Death: Give me your hand, o fair and tender form! I am your friend; I do not come to punish. Be of good cheer! I am not wild, You shall sleep softly in my arms by Matthias Claudius. This lovely sad poem that inspired the 20 year old Schubert Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarneri String Quartet elaborates in " Indivisible by Four"

La doncella: Pasa de largo. oh, pasa de largo. Vete loco esqueleto! Aun soy joven: vete, querido, Y no me toques. Muerte: Dame tu mano. Oh querida y dulce forma! Soy tu amiga; no vengo a dar castigo. Ser de buenos sentimientos! No estoy loca. Dormirás dulcemente en mis brazos.

This is, no doubt, great music by a great composer. The playing deserves at least 8/10. As for the title, it's rather like 'Tempest' in Beethoven's famous piano sonata -- that is, it gives an indication of the atmosphere permeating the music.

good performance, i recently performed it with my quartet and i understand the challenge of confronting it and maintaining Schubert's intentions/vision. (don't do all the repeats it makes it so much longer) but it was a good performance.

As death conceals his face when he seduces the maiden, here we see the reverse, the violinist with thin white arms and ivory skin remains hidden behind a sweep of golden hair. Each performance is an attempt to reach perfection. The quartet is on that journey and the music is profound.

I love the composition, but its not one of my favorite performances. Individually the players are very good. I don't see much of a blend as a quartet. It feel like its a competition to see who can play their part the most accurately.
@animatormark7 жыл бұрын
Brendan Slocumb Precisely! I don't understand why people get so upset with a little criticism. I wouldn't call it terrible but I wouldn't they were quite ready for a recording. The biggest problem for me is that their rhythms were not quite synced up. They just need more time with it and to listen to each other more.
