I do enjoy these rambling, no agenda, videos. Even more so when the audio is so good. About 2 years ago I went helmet shopping and the Scuberth was top of my list. Sadly, I don't have a Schuberth shaped head. The chap in the cap, if you know, you'll know who I mean, pointed me to the Shoei neotech 2. Fitted like it was made just for me, supremely quiet and comfortable. Pricey for sure, but has increased my riding enjoyment massively. Definitely converted me to flip front lids.

I have had my C5 for a few months now, replacing my C4 pro. The ventilation is better than previous variants and as a glasses wearer very comfortable. Good to hear Mrs Flyer is still enjoying being on two wheels

I had a c3 basic for 6 years then got a c4, the ventilation isn't as good on the c4 and it gets condensation on at low speed very easily. I should have waited and got a c5 but at the time the prices were a bit high, now they are less than I paid for my c4. Other than that the c4 is good, although I see complaints online about the comms kit it works well for my uses (intercom with pillion and music when riding solo).

I picked up a used Schuberth C3 a few years ago. It is the first full coverage helmet I've ever owned that fits my over-size mellon properly (in size XXXL), and stays comfortable all day. When I downloaded the user manual, I learned you can remove the top vent, and omigawd; You catch some huge dead bees and wasps in there, and a remarkable amout of dust that needs to be cleaned out. This is the 2nd helmet I've owned with a drop-down sun visor, and I would never buy one without it. When riding in a shaded canyon, it is handy to bring it just part way down to dim the bright sky, but still see the road below it. You can also raise the visor just enough to look under it at the sat-nav, but through it for everything else.

The audio is excellent, Andy, even with the flip up. The Shoei Neotech II and the Schuberth C5 are arguable the best flip-ups helmets on the market. I got a superb deal on a P/J dual homologated Shoei Neotech II Respect TC-10 (Blue/Red/White). It's top quality, very plush, extremely quiet, has unbelievable optics (CNS-3 shield/QSV-1 EN1836 sun shield), and a splendid stainless steel micro-ratchet-type chinstrap that doesn't nip your skin. It's by far the best helmet I've bought, and best of all I can wear it all day without any pain! For day-to-day riding, a flip-up is my personal choice of helmet, because they're quite, and extremely practical. The only downside I've found is the weight; with my comms unit fitted, my helmet weighs in at 2kg! Strangely, I don't really feel it. The prices are a lot higher than what you've quoted, Andy, the Schuberth C5 is £500 to £600, which is comparable with the Shoei Neotech II.

Yea, do more of the random vloggy stuff, very enjoyable. I have had all sorts of lids over the years, but when I got back into riding this time around, the first thing I got was a cheapie Bell flip, it was ok, but pretty loud at higher speeds, even with the extended chin curtain etc. I then bought an HJC Rpha 90 flip, which is a million times better on the noise front, also much lighter on the old noggin, plus the pinlock sold me on it. I'm planning on getting a new lid at some point this year, I was eyeing up the Neotec II, I heard that the Schuberth was more for a rounded head fit than an oval fit, but I might try one and see. Either way, modern flip lids are just leaps and bounds ahead of anything I ever used in the past and not being a racer, I would never go back to using a full face lid now.

I stopped by because of the Schuberth and really liked the overall vlog. Great to hear your take on it. Your RE is looking amazing and that seat looks fantastic! I have a Schuberth C3 Pro on order. Getting it for the claimed quiet not the flip front, drop down visor or comms. Before I was a rider I watched a ton of YT vids and because the mics had for the most part all been so well isolated from wind I had no idea that wind noise and helmet choice would be such a big deal. My first helmet was deafening even with earplugs which I always ride with. I couldn't hear my motorcycle or it's exhaust. I'd love to get a retro style helmet to go with my bike but they'd all be too loud for me. I'm curious if you know which visor you have on here; the dark or light smoke? Great vlog. I noted your comment that the lid has been tested with the front up and down. My experience is that the wind does catch the rather sail-like flipped up front making riding with it in that position at anything over very low speeds not good, fairly obvious really. As an aside, I can recommend the Shark Evo where the front flips right to the back thus you have an 'open face' lid. My mate uses a LS2 Valiant which does the same and gets great reports from him. My Evo may be a touch noisy but as I wear fitted ear plugs I have no issue. Love the exhaust note on your Enfield!

Interesting light review of the helmet, have been thinking about getting the E1 for my next helmet so was interested to see what you thought of the Schuberth. Agree with others, the sound quality is great. FWIW I like this Vlog style with at least a little purpose or focus to it, same with tour videos. I like to learn a little on the way, whether it's about a bike, kit or general bike travel problem solving. Look forward to your next flying video, I got my NPPL (microlight) about 20 years ago on Shadows and Jabiru but not flown for years so it's a good way to get a bit of a flying fix!

Been riding with flips for around 20years , caberg and shoei, always have the drop visor down , in slow moving traffic or manoeuvre time they are brilliant. Looking forward to the tours with you and the Mrs Andy.

Been using modular helmets for years. Mostly a string ofScorpions. The Schuberths have never quite fit my head, not to mention the fact that they cost 2-3 times what the Scorpions go for. I ride 80% of the time with the chinbar up on an R1200GSA with a larger than stock windscreen. It's quite comfortable even at high speeds with the chinbar up. Using a boom mic with the Sena bluetooth I get comments from fiends that when they call me and I am on the bike they are surprised because the sound quality is even better than when I am in my pickup Love the wander around video. Ride and video on more days like this and you'll swell the ranks of moto tourists coming to the UK from around the world.

I went flip last year - way too late. It's been a game changer. May have to upgrade to a Schuberth. And more flying vids of coarse!

Going for Schuberth C5 may have been a good call. I have a Shoei Neotec 2 and as a lid it is ok but has uber high wind noise and no convenient area in the flip to mount the mic. As a vlog lid it is not great. Flips are good when up, but with the camera mounted they do have a habit of falling down scaring you somewhat. Good luck with the C5. It looks very good.

Always used a Schubert C3 until the C4 came out which had well know problems. This moved me over to Shoei Neotec. Both are very good flip-up helmets but too pricey at around £500 - £600. For the last few years, I've been using the Nexx flip- up which is half the price and of excellent quality.

Excellent sound. No issues with clarity. I have a LS2 Valliant II Modular in white. I ride mostly, on my 2018 Goldwing, with the helmet in full face mode however I do enjoy the ability to flip the chin bar over locked back. The inner sun visor (the best quality yet-no sunglasses required) and clear visor are still in front of my eyes. Fit is more for medium oval noggin. My long oval required a XXL size. It gets hot here in southern Ontario so the option to flip is a pleasure.

Nice to see, you`ve finally added a white helmet to your collection, been wearing white for many years, best colour for being seen and reflecting the sun. Still persevering with an old Schuberth J1, (with the detachable chin bar), but until something serious breaks, it`s still got a few miles left in it. Maybe a C5 will be next, thanks for the heads up..

Great review, Andy. I got the C3 Pro flip (also my first) which helps to keep my varifocals in place putting the lid on rather than having to put them on through the visor. It’s a little snug but nice kit and suits me. Reasonably quiet too.

After 40 odd years of riding I recently bought my first flip helmet, the HJC 90S and must admit I'm sold on them.

Wife has a Schuberth C4 Pro Women. She loves it. With the inbuilt coms (bit pricy but she told me she’s worth it). The C4-women is more female head shaped apparently, supporting cheek bones and female forehead shape. We’re both medium head size in helmets but I can’t get hers on. The C4 communication is by Sena and it works well but we find it takes an awful lot longer to charge than my Sena 20S EVO. I have bell helmets but might give the Schuberth C5 a go after seeing your video

I recently went flip and splashed out on a Shoei Neotec2 the convenience on a recent tour was brilliant though i have to say the claims about it being quiet were definitely not the case for me, noisiest lid ive had i think. I enjoy the vlogs so keep um coming and agree there are some lovely roads around Waddeston. More flying too please Andy.

Hello Mr Flyer, Very pleased you decided to post this video, I’ve looked at the flip top and just can’t bring myself to buy one, mainly because of the joint and moving parts I feel that it makes a weak point. What do you think? I do love doing those trips around local roads, more of it please!

Thought I saw you wearing this new lid riding the GS a few days ago? Nice food in The Three Crowns at Askett. Bit pricey though if I remember. The Dinton Hermit good too. A famous singer gets in there. Nice lid btw!

I've always loved the "open face helmet and goggles" look. But being a middle aged chap, who has only recently passed his CBT - I'm sticking to full face for now! maybe later in my journey......😊 Also, being from Hazlemere, if I'm lucky, I might pass Mr and Mrs Flyer one day!

Like the Schuberth very much, especially because of the flawless integration of the Schuberth communication system and the „developed/made in Germany“ aspect, but unfortunately it doesn’t fit my head as good as the BMW System 7 Helmet.

Great sound, like you are sitting right next to me having a chat. I have used modular helmets for over 30 years starting with a BMW System 1 which was made by Schuberth. For the last 6 years I have been enjoying a C3. As an aside, I always wear sunglasses for the glare and UV protection and when the sun is low in the sky and you are riding right into it I also put down the built in sun visor and the double sun protection allows one to see.

Your bike mounted camera worked fine but the helmet camera's resolution deteriorated around the 10 to 15 minute mark. Recently bought a new helmet and tried dozens before I found one that was comfortable for a extended period. Sat in the shop with it on for over an hour to prove the point. Bought a Schuberth C3 pro. They are small for a flip top helmet and I had to buy a large size instead of my usual medium. C4 wasn't good and the C5 had only just been released and couldn't get for less than £499 at the time. For me, it's very comfortable and quiet, provides excellent side visibility. I'd never ride with the flip up and I find the ventilation good enough to not need to. I like the format of these "casual" blogs, they work well with the more focused stuff. Anyway, that's enough rambling, good work again Andy.
