Spurg: I was somewhat surprised and dismayed that you failed to mention the two features that most potential purchasers of the "new" (it's been sold in Europe since last fall) Schuberth C5 would find of interest. First, this is the first Schuberth with P/J homologation - allowing the flip-up shield to lock into the open position allowing the helmet to be used as a street-legal 3/4 helmet - a feature long available on top competitors like the Shoei Neo-Tec 2 and Nolan N100-5 but heretofore missing on Schuberths. Second, and most egregious, your comment about "DOT only," was totally misleading. The new C5 is the first and only modular helmet to meet and exceed the new ECE 22-06 EURO safety standards. All its competitors: Shoei, Nolan, HJC, AGV, etc., currently meet the current but less stringent ECE 22-05 standard. Newer models from those makers that meet the 22-06 standards have not yet been announced, let alone released to market. As to Snell, well our friend Ryan K., a.k.a. FortNine has clearly documented that the Snell standard is irrelevant, if not outright dangerous, when applied to motorcycle helmets. In any case, my order will be placed shortly.

Supposedly, per RevZilla's own information on Schuberth's E1 and C4 helmets, Schuberth as of 2018 does not import ECE-rated modulars into the US anymore, hence why it's DOT rated instead here. Unless that's changed with the C5, which would probably be the push I personally needed to really look into them here, then in the US it's still only DOT rated unless you import from somewhere else. I was watching this hoping they were in fact ECE rated here too but hard to say so far.

@@Tarukai788 Just purchased one from a European store and there is no issue importing an ECE-rated Schuberth. Revzilla and most U.S. companies don't import ECE-rated helmets unless they are DOT certified as well. Not sure if this is their policy or because the European companies won't export those ECE-only models to companies in the states. I live in Florida, so I can wear whatever helmet I chose, regardless of the certification. Revzilla just missed out on a sale, and previous sales, because of this policy. Supposedly the DOT-certified version will weigh 100 grams more and you can't find them in the states currently. I also had to order my old C3 from Europe years ago because it was not DOT certified. I've been riding with the helmet for a few months now and I am pretty disappointed. While the ventilation is great and the helmet is comfortable it has some major drawback and quality issues for a $750 helmet. First the visor is impossible to close with one hand. You have to use two hands and force the visor past the little tabs to lock it into place or you have to force the shield to deform to get the tabs into place. Second the forward most cheek pads constantly come undone and will not stay locked in place. Lastly the top vent slide cover rattles when closed, makes a really irritating noise in the helmet.

I previously upgraded my C3 to a C4 and the C4 was clearly a disappointment. I've now been using the C5 helmet for almost 2 months and it is a definite improvement over the C4. It's seems much quieter than the C4 yet vents MUCH better. As for the fit, it is very UN-Schuberth and seems to be more of a true intermediate oval than round. Typically I'd size up if anywhere close to being in between sizes but the C5 actually seems to be more true to size. I was surprised to see the C5 pop up here, since it's a 22.06 helmet, but disappointed that the US version is DOT only. Feels like the US is perpetually stuck with helmets that only meet obsolete safety standards. Also disappointed by the ratchet straps. With D-rings, you can use the fangs under the seat of many motos to secure your helmet while parked. I don't think you'd be able to do that with this helmet. I'm presuming that the speakers use some proprietary connection to get you to buy their Sena module. That's unfortunate: it would be cool if you could just plug in the Cardo and go. You should have about the same amount of ventilation as the E1, as that helmet was the similar C3 Pro with a peak visor added. Otherwise, grabbing a more-ADV specific lid may help with better ventilation.

I had always assumed that they used the same shells tested to different standards in different markets. Apparently, that is not so. For example, the C5 does not have carbon fiber in it in the US.
@andymello13812 жыл бұрын
Helmet manufactures make different helmets for the US vs Europe, even US dual homologated helmets. The Neotec 2 in the US weighs 1868 grams whereas the EU ECE only model weighs 1750 grams. This is universal for nearly all brands as the DOT testing has a shell penetration standard (therefore heavier helmets) and ECE does not. Pick any helmet in both markets and compare, you'll always see this trend. Even the AGV K6 which is dual homologated in the US weighs 1255 grams vs the ECE only EU model at 1220 grams.

@TheAsheybabe892 жыл бұрын
Well it isn't because it can't meet both standards, because the past C3s they imported met both dot and ece. They actually made an announcement when they were going to start importing helmets marked with only dot approval. And countless other helmets currently met both standards (even my old cheap LS2 assault).

Any info on a mic in this helmet? Is it pre installed, does it stick out, and how good is it at capturing your voice.
@RevZilla2 жыл бұрын
Not pre-installed. It comes with the SC2 unit and plugs into the mic-spot you can see when the chin bar is open. It is a small boom style mic that only sticks out far enough to stay within the chin area when the helmet is closed. We will have a review of the SC2 in the near future that will show it installed.
@snowgsadventures32322 жыл бұрын
It’s excellent quality. You still need to fiddle so the skirt doesn’t hit it when you lower the chin bar. Drawback is there’s nothing holding it in except the male mic jack clicking into the female, so I knocked it out eating a donut 🤪 and lost it on day-one (woman found it and asked me if it was mine!)

Can you put in a tinted visor so people can’t see your face?
Cardo users will just have to buy something else or pay too much for a pre installed comm system. Silly.
@RevZilla2 жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind, they can remove most of the pre-installed comm unit (since the speakers can be unplugged now), and install a universal Cardo on the side too. Not ideal, but better than just being unable to buy a helmet based on a comm system.
@alanhassall2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about that. They have some wiring, an antenna and speakers, but they still charge as much as a stand alone system for the guts. I’m sure the Cardo will fit on the side just fine. I have given up on speakers and gone to IEMs for use with helmets because the speakers aren’t loud enough and do nothing to block out wind noise. I don’t think the built-in systems have auxiliary headphone jacks on them for IEMs. It is nice to ride along with the sound turned down, hearing fine and not listening to wind noise.

Is there any response from Schuberth for L, XL size problem? I am C3pro XL size , and L is too small ,get pain all over my had and chin touches , and XL I can flip around my had easily.
@RevZilla Жыл бұрын
That isn't really something that is considered a sizing problem, it might just be that your unique head shape and size don't fit perfectly in the stock sizes that Schuberth offers. They do make replacement interior liners / cheek pads in different thicknesses though for just such occasions. So you could take an XL and add thicker interiors to customize it so that it fits with your headshape. Its a pretty common practice to help get better fitment for those that fall between sizes. Hope that helps, feel free to contact our Customer Service teams to chat about which pads would help accomplish the best fit for you.

We'd rather review the helmet once we get the unit and release the video to help everyone make their decision on buying, not just those ready to immediately pull the trigger and buy now. Our video teams is not connected to our inventory team to keep the two separate and allow us to review the products honestly. If we waited to review and release videos until units came into inventory, we would've only released a few videos for all of COVID, which isn't really ideal. Schuberth decides when these come to the US and inventory lands, so hopefully that will be soon. As for us, we are just going to keep making product videos and getting the info out there. Hopefully that helps, ride safe!
