I worked with Russel back in the 90's in Toronto doing stand up sets. He is exactly the same guy today, as he was then. Chill, no ego, cool as fuck!!! Only about 1% of the comedians ever break through to have great success. He deserves all the success he has. I am so happy for him!!! P.s. he was always fearless!!!!

This is sad and similar to Chappelle. Poor black people cannnot go to Africa for spiritual journeys. Chappelle made millions off of using the n word, then pretended like his viewers were racist and absolved himself of having gotten rich and famous off of it. Worse, tried to PR himself into a black victim for not making industry market standards that he himself states are exploitative. All these comedians are a major part of the reason for the major trend towards race based language rules. Of course, Shultz and Rogan and their type will carve out special rules for their friends as long as they can, and leave you with the "racist" pile ons for not being as funny as them.

People are snowflakes now. They find small things to get offended. The whole point of a joke is to laugh at it. It shouldn't be taken seriously but here we are. Russell makes jokes on himself/Indians and I love that sh!t. Jokes should be taken with a pinch of salt. If you can't handle a joke you have bigger things to worry about in your life.

People also forget Russell is a massive hip-hop/rap head and helped produce the Netflix series Hip Hop Evolution. He may of felt pressure back then to say it being around fellow black comedians, in front of a black crowd, for a black network, but he's beyond that now and wouldn't do the set just out of pure respect for the culture and where he's at in life, but old Russell had nothing to lose and everything to gain if it worked, thank God it did.

Brah going back and watching that set makes me realize how legendary that shit was lol. In my estimation the reason he gets away with saying it is because he understands our culture. He understands how we use it and he’s poking fun at the different ways that we use it… and we know that’s exactly what we do! Although the joke is on us, he’s laughing with us and he’s not just trying to make a joke to have an excuse to say the N-word. Lots of people want an excuse to say nigga because they don’t like being excluded from it. But the truth is anyone can say it, it’s just some people are too cowardly to take responsibility for what they say and they want impunity with with that word. If you’re saying something that you know could be offensive, be accountable for what you say, and don’t try to gaslight someone by telling them they shouldn’t be offended just because you wanted to say it. And if you want to connect with a black person saying nigga is not your way to acceptance lol. Russell Peters got away with saying it cause he demonstrated that he understands how we think and feel and expressed a shared experience that a lot of us have which shows that he has a deeper empathy, and not just an idle curiosity and desire to say a word.

I am a SE Asian and once this guy cut me and this little kid in line at a convenient store (it all leads to convenient store huh?) So I got into an argument with the black guy and at one point we started exchanging veiled 'threats' and I exploded dropping the n-bomb. Although he was on the wrong, I felt I had no right to hurt him like this. But it happened so fast and subconsciously. I was shocked at what I just did and I couldn't sleep for a day afterwards. Becaue that guy never insulted my ethnicity or race (although plenty did growing up and bullied) and in my mind I was like after 500 years they still have to endure racism like this. And that's just from me and not a white guy. Yes, I wanted to hit a sore spot because I was threatened with violence and wanted to verbally erect a boundary. But the point being unless one has experienced racism, one really should sit down and shut up. I am looking at the ilks of Ben Shapiro.

Russell did a good job setting up the jokes to come. He first talked about being Indian/brown. So he let the audience know that he also deals with Racisim. Then he told a joke about how his black friends would make racist jokes to him poking fun growing up. Now the N-Word is a stretch. I’ve grown up with Mexicans, and Salvadorans who use the word in a non malicious way. That said it always felt weird. I don’t expect them to know what that feels like. However how he uses it in this context is funny becuase it’s accurate. Be by that time you feel like he’s ok and really not a racist. You relieve that he actually considers himself in equal. Meaning he isn’t looking down on us. That said I do t know that he could get away with that today.
