Step inside Atlanta-based designer Beth Webb's Brays Island retreat that she shares with husband (and architect) Chuck Hanavich! Situated on the 8,000 acres that make up Brays Island, the glass house is a mere hour from the lively streets of Charleston and only a stones throw away from Savannah. The remote see-through haven is the perfect example of letting the outdoors dictate the indoors. Architect James Choate of Surber Barber Choate + Hertlein Architects designed the house, and made it a goal to ensure every single room in the home had a spectacular view of the sweeping and oh-so-green surrounding. Their closest neighbors include deer, egrets, wood storks, wood ducks, and pink spoonbills! Hanavich built the original portion of the house starting and was originally designed as a one-bedroom house with a loft configuration. He soon turned the porch into an office and then added another master bedroom. It’s now a two-bedroom, 5,000-square-foot house with an open floor plan that is all at once utterly chic and completely lived-in.
The original interior design was quite minimal. Webb notes that to exsntuate the dazzling views, an added touch of texture, layering, and the right pieces were needed to complete this masterpiece. With a large family, Webb and Hanavich need seating and a lot of it! They divided the open space of the living room into two seating areas and dramatically increased the seating to comfortably entertain.
