The gentleman in the photo at approximately 1:47 is the unforgettable Arlington Mayor Tom Vandergriff. He is, arguably, the reason the city prospered in the 50's, 60's, and 70's ❤😊

SFOT holds fond memories, as my first trip there was when I was 9 months old with Mom and Dad. My Dad continued to take me to Six Flags each summer. The Big Bend coaster was a favorite and scared me to death thinking on the first drop that we would sail right into rooftop of building right next to it. The memories this park holds are deep rooted ❤

Grew up in Dallas in 69-89, was too chicken to ride Big Bend but my dad, mom, and brother rode it. Leaving little me to wait by myself. Innocent times. Thanks for posting.

My dad always talked very fondly of this Coaster. Thank you for the POV I'm sure he'll appreciate it when he watches this since I sent it over to him ❤

Real good video Brian. Brings back a lot of memories. I was a ride operator on the big Ben. I got to ride it before it was open to the public..

The Big Bend was epic...i was devastated when it closed but now, years later, understand what a maintenance nightmare it was.

I rode it several times from 1972 - 1978. We traveled down from Kansas to DFW almost ever summer to go spend a couple days at Six Flags Over Texas. The last time I rode it was in 1978, the same year Shock Wave opened. I was so sad when they removed this ride. I am luck that I rode all 3 versions of the Schwarzkopf Jumbo Jets: Big Bend, Zambezi Zinger and Whizzer. Of the 3, Zinger was the best, but Big Bend was the scariest. Whizzer is kinda meh compared to its older siblings.

Big Bend was the first "scary" coaster I rode when I was about 8 or 9 years old... and the one that made me a coaster fan for life. It's fun seeing the old videos and photos, showing how tame it actually was by today's standards.

I remember riding with my Mom the first time... and as we went down the hill after the 2nd lift, yelling "duck" to her because the track passing over the hill looked to be so close. LOL.

My mother would never let me ride it! When I was old enough to go to Six Flags without her I made a bee-line for it!!😂😂

Great video. I rode the big bend on my 6th birthday and was my first big coaster. And didn't realize until your video that it was only couple months old when I rode it. Absolutely wonderful memories from my childhood and SFOT figured into it prominently. Thank you my friend for reminding me of those beautiful days

I miss the way theme parks were when they had well planned and executed rides. Nowadays it's all how many cars can we fit on a roller coaster track and get as many people as possible through this line with the least amount of staff

Always wanted to ride Big Bend, but I guess the reason was I was too little. Silly kid that I was I thought it was because it was a ride for naughty people. Lol. Didn't have a trip to Six Flags till years later and sadly Big Bend was gone. Way too short of a life for it. Great video, thanks

I not only ride the ride many times, I worked at six flags and spent many hours stuffing folks into the trains. Right before they started dismantling it, me and two friends snuck in late and stole the sign off the line que building and it’s hanging in my garage currently. We also…..this may seem crazy but it’s truth……we loaded up a log-ride log and took it home! My mother and father pretty much freaked out but what a story to tell huh?! It ended up at a neighborhood membership only private pool. Never found out what finally became of it. I loved the big bend. One day I took my dad and his girlfriend and my brothers to six flags and we were standing near the second spiral lift….this was before seat belts. Right before our eyes a lady fell off the train onto the train tracks below. It was about a 20 foot fall and she was knocked out and sent to hospital with a few broken bones. I could go on and on here about my crazy antics on the mine train and shock wave. Me and the manager of the mine train and also a security officer were fired for creating the scenario where a train went down into the final tunnel and came out of tge tunnel and slammed into the train sitting waiting to move into the station. Then it rolled back down into the tunne which shut the ride down all day. Fun while it lasted. I loved the big bend so much tgat I built a small scale model of the train car. Took a year.
