PROS & CONS OF OWNING A WIDEBODY CHALLENGER! EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WIDEBODY PACKAGE!

As promised, in todays video we discuss the pros (looks, performance, handling) and cons (looks, weight, costs) of owning a Widebody Dodge Challenger and Charger. This goes for both the Scatpack and the Hellcat. Now that I have owned both a regular narrowbody Dodge Challenger Scatpack and a Widebody Dodge Challenger Hellcat I can speak to what I like and dislike about the package. I also discuss the cost of converting or modifying your regular narrowbody Dodge Challenger into a Widebody. You may think that you could do it for less than the $6,000 price tag from Dodge but you may be surprised with my findings. Ultimately even though $6,000 dollars is a lot of money and a lot of people don't think the widebody package is worth that money... I think it is completely worth it and you may agree after today's video. After adding up all of the parts you will find that $6k is a pretty good price for what you get. Thank you for watching!

I was the same way-when the wide bodies first came out, I didn't much like the look, mainly because the Challenger was styled to look like the original, which never had fender flares. Now, I believe the wide bodies are the best looking. It just works.

I own a '19 Challenger SPWB and I just love it. The WB option is totally worth it. On top of what was mentioned in the video, another feature of the WB package on the Challenger is that you get the hood with the heat extractor vents (same as 2018 Hellcat hood) and you get the Hellcat front fascia, which imo looks way better and replaces fog lights with proper cold-air venting for the 6p Brembos in the front.

I have a 2020 Widebody Scatpack. It was the right move, everything you pointed out is spot on. The one thing you touched on but didn't stress that I find troublesome with the widebody is the size of the car which makes parking in tight spots troublesome. Especially if you go head in. That front splitter is huge! So I find myself backing into most parking spots. Thanks for your hard work on these video's - keep it up!

I have a 2020 Scatpack and back in too and do not like parking in tight spots. But what I find more annoying are others who feel that they have the right to offer their opinions on how I should feel about protecting and being careful with it.

Any parking problems involving the front splitter has nothing to do with the wide body fender flares.

Scat pack wide body definitely worth the extra money.I had a 50th anniversary commemorative SPWB shipped across the pond earlier this year.Superb motor,plenty of power and handles great especially for a car of its size.Not one negative I can say about the car. As you say, the first after market accessory that needs to be fitted are the ZL1 rock guards.I had mine ordered and ready to fit on the day I picked up my car.GO MOPAR!

Good thing I watched this video before I bought a 2017 Dodge Challenger 392 SRT(narrow body) then buying and installing the Novara wide body kit from American Muscle while still keeping the front OEM upper & lower grilles/chin spoiler/bumper with the two lower fog lights.

Great vid . I just traded my 21 SPWB Auto trans for a 21 Shaker manual. Not a wide body . Now having the WB and the shaker would have been great but way too expensive . I felt the difference right away with the way the car rides . Not much difference in handling. But definitely worth getting the wide body . I’m happy with my decision as I got the upgraded sound system , carbon fiber inserts , 6 speed and back seat delete . The auto was ridiculously fast, but boring . I missed the manual trans I had in my 2SS Camaro and enjoy shifting gears . And being that everyone is gouging the prices , it took awhile to find a deal I didn’t get crushed on . Enjoy

Thank you for a very good, and well thought out, video. You make a solid argument for the wide body and made a proper statement for the narrow body too. I gave the options consideration, and went with the narrow body. I bought a 1973 Challenger 4 speed manual off the show room floor and 50 years later bought a 2022 Scat Pack Challenger narrow body off the floor. I love my choice. I just couldn't get around the looks of the wide body. Great cars, the look is just not for me. It is nice to have choices. 😊

Everyone with a narrow body check out lil devils flares. They look fantastic and allow you to run much bigger tires without the tack on look of the widebody. I’m running a 0 offset 11 inch wide widebody wheels in the rear with a 315/35/20, fits perfectly.

I just bought a regular body Scat 2 nights ago. I do love the WB look. But the decision was pretty easy. Regular body was MSRP, more classic look. The WB is $6,000 more plus a market adjustment. So when I did the figures it was going to end up, upwards of 10k + more. All the WBs I saw were 55-60k, I was $48k out the door on my regular body. I like the looks of the WB, the performance is probably something, i'll never get my moneys worth out of. 6 piston brakes as opposed to 4 piston, I'm sure with my driving I won't notice that, I have had cars with 6 piston brakes and my 4 pistons are just as good for what I need. Suspension with my type of driving maybe better corning i'm sure but 6-10k better, Nope. Tires are awesome on the WB, but I'm upgrading mine to 275/40 for $800 bucks. It's just not enough to warrant the WB for me. Sometimes it seems like a d**k measuring contest, but hey if you have the money and money wasn't a issue, I think everyone would go WB. I know I would!

Quick question I am going to look at a Dodge Challenger scat pack narrow body it comes with the 275 40 20s do you think I would be happy with that car as a daily driver and or you think I'd be better off with a wide body but they're charging $5,000 markup on the wide body which I will not pay so do you think the narrow scat pack 2022 model would be okay thank you for your feedback

@@joeyl1939 that’s the problem I ran into. I love the look of the wide body, but with them being 6,000 more plus a 5,000 mark up I don’t see it as being worth it. Sure you get the active damping suspension, wider tires and wheels and a 6 piston front brembo but is any of that stuff really going to matter when daily driving ? I though absolutely not. I daily drive my narrow body and I love it ! Mine didn’t come with the 275s so that was a mod I did right out of the gate. Its gives the car a nice stance like a hellcat and it paid MSRP, with my trade and all I financed under MSRP vs paying over 10k more for the wide body. I love the look of the wide body, but I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money for it. Plus the narrow body has more of the classic muscle car look. Good luck with your purchase.

Man I am a mopar guy. I wish instead of a wide body they made bigger tires fit the car as is. The large front tires do nothing. Plus the look of a wider rear and narrow front look better. That being said great video been trying to find the difference in what you get beside just the flares and wheels. That and the t/a actually came with suspension differences and bigger breaks when i came out and now they turned it into a appearance package.

this was the best explanation of why the WB is worth the OEM price that I've ever seen. If I had a dollar for every time I read a comment saying "just put on a kit" or "it's just bolt-on flares" then I'd be rich. Those guys haven't a clue wtf they're talking about. Videos showing someone installing their own kits sometimes are so bad, they make me nauseous. The hack-jobs cutting the fenders to shreds, the screws, the gluing, the 2nd-rate painting, all of it done with crappy tools and no experience in dirty garages, etc. All make me think I'd sure hate to be the next owner of that car. Sure, a few have been converted very well and that's great but the majority are hackjobs and look like ass afterward, not to mention they still have the tiny brakes, the wrong fascia, probably the wrong width tires and rims, same old suspension and tune, all that nonsense. There really are no shortcuts. If you want a widebody, a good one, then just buy an OEM and enjoy it.

On a SPWB 392/RT you need those ZL1 rock guards, and Expel PPF on all 4 wheel wells because those wide tires kick up debris and rocks, gravel onto the side of exterior body. What is the total cost of having a shop install Expel PPF onto all 4 wheel well fenders? The great thing about SPWB it solves the fish tailing problem so common on these high power Challengers. I would look at this as a safety feature with better control getting the power to the ground. The down side is that those wide tires will cost more $$$ when you replace them and if you keep car long enough those Brembo brakes will cost alot $$$$ to replace/maintain. But what happens when it rains?? Does this mean those wider tires are going to HYDROPLANE IN THE RAIN or WET ROADS more than the narrow body Challenger SPWB with the skinny factory tires making the SPWB more dangerous driving on wet roads? As far as cosmetics go with SPWB too bad they didn't mold/blend the wheel wells into the body like on a Corvette Z06 or a Grand Sport Corvette. Technically you lose some gas mileage on the SPWB because it weighs a bit more and the aerodynamics. (If MPG means anything to most of you). Is it worth the cost to have a professional Ceramic coating applied to the whole car?

Good comments and questions. In regards to getting all 4 fenders paint protected that really depends on the shop. Some shops quoted me over 2k for the whole front end but I got it done for much less. If you just do all 4 fenders flares you're probably looking at 800 bucks give or take. I think ceramic coating is worth it if you can get it done for under 500 bucks. Over that amount it's a little too pricey in my opinion

(I believe that front end is a MUST to get Expel PPF because Challenger front end is a bug and rock magnet).-Right? I hope I'm wrong on this. I believe Expel PPF is also a necessity on all 4 wheel wheels. (I would hope I am wrong in this case too). Can you prove me wrong on all of the above in order to save $$$$? Maybe the Deluxe ZL1 rock guards will be sufficient enough??? We are now up to $2,800 (Maybe more being in California) and we haven't even included the Ceramic coating which is usually $1,000 as they keep your car for a week to do a great job to correct those paint imperfections. (The Ceramic coating can be skipped for that very reason $$$ and just use a good polish like "LIQUID GLASS POLISH" and or 303 Graphene-good for 1 year for paint protection against the elements then re-apply either product). The Deluxe ZL1 rock guards are $100 which is the most reasonable in fact it is suppose to be simple enough to do it yourself install. This is what is going to keep those rocks off the car body and address the paint chip problem directly.

Yeah, I actually prefer narrow too, but both look great. I Placed my order on the RT a month ago because that's what within my budget & I don't really need all that power lol. You can't get an RT with a widebody, but the narrow body still looks stunning & really vitalizes that retro look as mentioned in the video. Only thing I'll probably change is the front bumper, grille & splitter to the SRT styling & maybe the spoiler sometime down the road, but that's it. No fenders, because I don't wanna have to get the new wheels & tires, offset, spacers & have a bodyshop cut out my wheel wells to fit that shit on. And also I don't wanna pay 11k for that. lol

If you already own your narrow scat , as I do. 11k is way less than what a new WBSP would cost over a years time. Now those WB kits are waaaay less , and look like stock WB as well. If I was going to get a new one. Yes I would definitely choose the WB over narrow. I didn’t like the look at first , crazy thing is the charger made me want to put a WB kit on my Challenger.

So I didn't notice a huge difference in the ride quality when comparing the "auto" driving mode in my hellcat to my narrow body scatpack. I will say that the widebody tends to feel more bumps at times in the steering wheel which moves the wheel left and right when driving down the road. Thats because of the wider tires up front which I did not feel in my narrowbody scatpack.

I don't think you should be concerned. I will say that because of the wider tires up front you get pushed around a little more when you hit bumps but it shouldn't veer you off the road

When I fully open the driver door of my narrow body Scat Pack in the garage, it BARELY doesn't hit my truck.....like an inch from hitting (its a long door). If I had a 3.5" wider car, it would be no bueno.

I haven't abused mine and I'm at 5k miles. The tread indicator shows plenty of more tread left but I have noticed they spin out a lot. So to get better traction I'd go for a different tire or just keep light on the throttle

Is $6000 a good price for the widebody? Well, it costs Dodge the price of all the parts to make the car a widebody, but they also save on the parts that they don't need to use like the wheels and tires from the standard body. Please laugh at me but I’m gonna tell something, I own a Toyota Avalon 1995 and last week I rented a car to go for work to another state and it was a v6 sxt. To be honest even that car which is the weakest model had so much power that I will be happy to buy a sxt , let alone v8 WB etc etc :) Challenger was the best car I ever drove. I had other rentals like Ford Explorer and other new cars but nothing gave me a good experience like the SXT. Thank you all and enjoy if you have one

The Wide body panels look better on the Charger. The Wide Body panel looks like a bagel stuck on the side. The Challenger has a body line and the panel cuts into it on the front. The Charger doesn’t have this body line so the flat bagel looking flare looks and flows better on it. The Wide body panel looks okay on the back of the Challenger because the body line goes above it. But each his on.

@@demiurgeobzen327 Look at the side of a Challenger. Notice the body line that goes down the side of the body and gracefully curves up and goes to the back. Look at a wide body. The wide body panel is smooth and flat and cuts into this beautiful body line in the front. The Charger doesn’t have a body line in this area. They should have molded it to fit this line on the Challenger. Love the idea. Not the execution of the idea.

@@SchwayZ they are a great option for daily driving. Handle well in the rain too. Just make sure to get an alignment afterwards since they are bigger tires placed on on 4. 👌🏿 Had some on my Charger back in the day and the price was unbeatable.
