I build engines for a living. I've built and rebuilt hundreds of all makes and models(mostly V8). With only rare exceptions, catch cans do nothing but CATCH your money. I've torn down newer Hemi's with 100k+ miles and the intakes were clean. Keep your oil changed...with a QUALITY oil of the CORRECT viscosity and you'll not need one with these engines. Some of the older LS's NEEDED them but not really a "Hemi" problem due to their design and single valve design. It's "easy" to make an 11 second car...but that extra second will cost you a LOT of money and time. Most bolt on mods do very little over OEM design. Hemi's do NOT run a "Lot" hotter than other engines. Who makes this stuff up?

5.7 Hemi. Added a catch can at 95k and at 105k i switched out the 5.7 intake manifold for a ported 6.4 manifold. I run fuel cleaner in my car every couple fill ups so my intake valves were pretty much spotless. But the old manifold and the intake runners in the heads were very caked up with oil I could only assume from the pcv valve. Regular oil changes, never more then 3,500 miles at the most. Whether the catch can works or not is up for debate, but to say hemis dont get gunked up with oul from the pcv is not true.
@Somethingisntright6410 ай бұрын
Right. I thought those PCV valves had a check valve. If the check valve is not stuck open it shouldn't suck oil into the intake.
@Czecher865 ай бұрын
so u are very bad at work or u want more work from ppl without catch can.
@BigMack3923 жыл бұрын
An oil catch can is an absolute must. Most guys think that it's only needed for a direct-injected engine which the hemis are not. But that oil mist going from the PCV valve back into the intake is going to bake onto the intake valves and eventually degrade power. On my 392 I drain away about a 1/8 cup of oily fluid out of the can every 2000 miles, and that's just with street driving. Any aggressive driving will produce more blowby and more oil/water vapor out of the crankcase venting system. So go get that catch can kit and install it as soon as possible.

That's a good list, the only thing i would add to it is a 180 degree thermostat Heat is the number one enemy of any engine. Kicking your fans on at 180 instead of 230 is going to make your car run much cooler therefore it stays in the power more consistently and prolongs the life of your engine. Also A good thermostat runs you any where from 30 to 50 bucks so they arent expensive

It's funny when I hear people knock performance intake & exhaust investments. You may only receive 10-20 hp gains, but the throttle response gains you get gives you immensely explosive access to aaaaall that hp you already have. Add to that a high flowing exhaust, & you're shred'n tires in such manners that would make John Force peanut butter & JEEEEALOUS! Smart video brah!

Great Video Brotha 👍 Subscribed. Only thing I don’t agree with is the after market exhaust, that’s 1k-2k you can use for something worth it. (Like a Cam or Drop in Forged Rods & Pistons) Stock Cats and 3” Straight Pipe all the way thru is all you need on the 392 (Electric Cutouts if you want to burst some ear drums) Some people got more money to spend 🤷♂️ but the little power an exhaust adds is killed off by how much it weighs.

What about rear end differential gear changes?? Going from a 3.09 to a 3.92 would be a big difference in acceleration. I have a Ram 1500 Hemi with the 8 speed and 3.92 locking differential (a must) and have surprised quite a few folks. The only other mod it has is a K&N filter. @donniechaffin68974 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. For example, I've read where the Hellcat airbox and a dirty filter will give you the same flow rate as the stock airbox and a new filter. The sensors and computer will work out these variances and you'll get adequate flow all the time with the Hellcat airbox (and probably many other CAIs). Why would you need a tune for a oil catch can? Until my car's warranty has expired, I'll stick to things I can undo.

Only change would/could be muffler choice. Hf cats or catless will NOT see any gains until the 800 Hp mark ... so not really necessary until built. 1)First and foremost: tires are the best first mod 2) tune is next on my list 3) tazer has many good options(one being track mode) After that , depending on how far one wants to take it : cam/heads/longtubes/nitrous/FI also depending on availability, I really love how this thing runs on e85 so injectors and tune for that.

I completely agree with you 100% bro. I am getting a BBK 85mm throttle body with a Leg Maker TRUE cold air intake that goes down the fender and then getting a custom or dyno tune and I guarantee that I will end up gaining at least 25 or 30 WHP with incredible throttle response and shift points and the car will be in a different league. It will be fast enough and totally worth it. PS the ZF 8 speed Auto ROCKS i dont even freakin care what any one thinks about it. Thanks for the info it reinforced my ideas and plans.

So do you think the Billet technology catch cans or the best? I've been going back and forth researching all the brands and it seems to be a very confusing subject 2 figure out what will be best for my car.
@InnoV8Official6 жыл бұрын
I have nothing but good to say about the billet cans. Great product for sure, customizable if you wish. Only downfall is the time it takes to get one. Took me like 10-12 weeks.

One thing that I've learned.. after you make a modification give yourself a week or so after running the vehicle let the car adjust to the mod. Straight away you'll never notice anything..

Hey does that say WWMM on your windshield? I hooked up with the club last year at the Monroe car show... we have a 2016 redline scat shaker, 17 pitch black hellcat, 17 granite crystal ram R/T... Nice car and thanks for your vids.

Hellcat Air box mod is good for lower IAT's not much if any power gains. The ported TB is a waste of money IMO if your not getting the intake manifold ported and can also cause a surge if not tuned properly. LT headers is a good upgrade with the exhaust which will improve your low mid range. The Tazer is a good option also so you can open the track setup and turn your cooling fans on while the car is shutt off very good for the track and you also get a line lock with the Tazer.

I'm thinking of buying a 2012 dodge charger srt8 but my dad wants me to get the 2017 dodge charger rt because he believes it will hold more value in the future but the srt8 has almost the same interior as the 2017 charger and a bigger 6.4L hemi but he doesn't want to spend 20k+ for a 2012 car, so what do you think???
@huss47836 жыл бұрын
A hellcat air intake ... you mean the entire box, right? ... like literally removing the 6.4 air intake box and replacing it with a hellcat one... and manually opening up that front headlight port
@scatcat39276 жыл бұрын
That’s what you need to do. Jlt also has a good cold air intake.

Tremain Smith do you have one?
@_E_B_5 жыл бұрын
@@tremainsmith6352 Mechanically it's a "semi-hemi". And bo one needs to go to school. Less than 5 minutes in Google and you can look it up. These new gen hemis are not identical to the originals from the 60s and 70s...but the are similar. They are semi hemispheric . Look it up. And they make more power and torque than the older engines and are more reliable and get better fuel economy. The old "elephant" 426 hemi advertises 425 hp. Realistically mad 480hp . We have now a 6.4L hemi that makes 485hp...
