I was a little skeptical at first about the Wake stems, given their price. However, they have a ton of reviews on Amazon, and we decided to give them a go. We bought two, and installed one on my dad's Trek Marlin 6, which originally had an 80mm stem. He says that the Wake stem (almost half the length) puts him in a much more natural and comfortable position, whereas the stock stem put him in a XC type position. The other Wake stem went in my CO-OP DRT 1.1, which originally had a 60mm stem. I found that the reach is shorter now, the stock stem was too long, and when turning my arms had to stretch to the max, and with the seat all the way up, u was way to stretched out. The new stem is much better, help the bike turn better, and makes it easier for me to hang off the back on gnarly descents. Both stems have held up very well over the last 4+ months, with no sign of wear. I really abused the stem as much as I could, not holding back on jumps, drops, ect. and it has been fine. I would highly recommend the Wale stems, they're very cheap, quality is fine, and they seem durable.

If you like that length of stem the Spank spoon and Hussfelt are good fairly budget parts as well. I caught my blue spank stem on sale for $24. Really solid part.

I went with grip puppies and painstakingly rolled them on over the stock rubber grips. This made a huge change in comfort. Plus a wider grip means a wider contact area for my palms thus less sharp pains by the end of the trip.
@EvansMTBSaga3 жыл бұрын
Man those grip puppies are expensive! There are much cheaper and better foam grips out there. ESI chunky is one i've used.

@@EvansMTBSaga Yes at $20 they are but i got them for a motorcycle and they have lasted 5 years, wet and in the heat and held up so i got them for my mountain bike. I feel it was worth it because they fit tight and dont move over the OEM rubber with some elbow grease. The fattyness helps reduce the sore hands from jumps. The knock off version disintegrate quickly and dry rot. But yes, expensive as far as grips go. 😅

Part of the reason I am trolling your vids today is because I miss Arizona a little bit. I lived in Phx for 48 years, but I am in Tennessee now. I thought I would never miss Saguaro cacti...but... I don't miss the 120f! :D I think for the riding you want to do, you are at an impasse with the Axum. The wimpy quick release skewers are not going to put up with jumping too much. You can use a different fork for beefier QRs but I don't know if there is a way to change the rear dropout to use the beefy QRs.

@@EvansMTBSaga clip pedal really makes a difference when going up an incline. I had to make multiple stops while riding up hill (12km climb on road) when I used flat pedals. But when I switched to clipped pedals, I did it in 1 go. But yeah, practice unclipping a lot or else u'll keep falling when stopping.

Too expensive for this bike? A lot of us are thinking of this bike as a frame at this point. The (garbage) components are just to get us by until we can customize or replace them over time. Frames from other companies are $600+, so even if you buy it just for the frame it’s a good deal.

Hi which brake pads should i get for my Axum schwinn bike .Thanks.

I've mechanical brakes that outperform some hydraulic brakes, cus of reach adjustment, I can still have a powerful brake even if I had short fingers, like a kid, with Shimano servo wave that does not work. I've Trp Spyke dual piston brakes, but they are not perfect, like I can't take pads out from the top, same with cheap shimano brakes, so wheel has tk be removed but I see Rever has dual piston mecganical caliper that allows this but I haven't seen any in stock, so I haven't had a chance to try those. But their levers don't look good so far best lever I've seen seems to be Trp Spyke cus reach won't go out of adjustment on. Unlike Trp ML930 lever does, which cost more and is the high end brake lever so that one is a downgrade perfirmancr wice but for weight it's a difference, ease of install too but not worth it. I've reviews of it on my website. Also have review/horror story about leaking shimano m6000 brakes,ehich are useless for kids, but powerful for long fingers, and they don't offer the direct feel i like, the actuation is progressive, and reach jus tmoves lever in so renders u it useless. So I've given up on Shimano brakes, the high end brakes have cheramic pistons which are fragile. I guess you could get some aftermarket once brakes are out of warranty and shimano won't support you anymore, like from Aliexpress, you cna even get seals for pistons there.

Wow that is unfortunate you had problems with the MT200. Everything is going good so far. They don't have the best stopping power. Thanks for watching!
@mtbboy19934 жыл бұрын
@@EvansMTBSaga I haven't looked into these brakes, but if they have the same servo wave/same mechanism to press the piston in the mastery cylinder, they will do the same as I experienced, but the new M6100 has changes, I haven't tried it so don't know how the new servo wave is.

I have recently been doing some pretty high jumps with OEM forks (warning label says not too) and so far have not destroyed them.
