I worked in IT for 40 years. Thankfully never had anything like this happen. We did, however, have a constant battle with employees introducing viruses. People would straight up lie to you that they had not done something when, you can look at what they've done and see it.

You'll love this. They came around our office with an antivirus program on a disk. I said, you aren't putting that in my pc, it might have a virus. They said don't be stupid it's an antivirus program. No I said. They infected 152 desktop computers with a virus including all the accounts department. The internet wasn't a thing then.

It's familiar to H.P Lovecraft even if Lovecraft doesn't have anything to do with Cthulhu it's common for writers to include it in sequels. His novel Weird Tales is translated in countries as Cthulu Awakens. I can tell you that this was a H.P Lovecraft story since they go down to a person in such debt that they do anything to escape the claws of their nightmare and many times the main person is punished for reaching beyond what they weren't supposed to see. They speak about an ancient alien race commonly seen as fish people of giants and eventually the nightmares catches up and their fears become a reality.

This is pretty much the best overarching plot of The Laundry Files by Charles Stross. Magic is real, but rots your brain if you run it on your “wetware” brain. However, you can cast spells using a computer, so programmers end up being the modern day sorcerers. This unfortunately opens a door that should’ve remained closed.
@txbluesguy

Great concepts: 1. The idea that summoning Cthulu would be buried in software. 2. Excellent special effects 3. The storyline and 'internal dialogue' of the main character help build the tension 4. Love the ending My only complaint is you should have talked to someone who actually understands computers because the whole idea of building a supercomputer from spare parts and having it run Windows to seek out 'malware' just doesn't fly.

That was utterly brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, the Cthulhu law throughout was awesomely converted to near era, well performed & produced. My compliments to the creators, I'd love to see more from them! 👾 Some others in the comments have complained that the film is "old" and they'd "already seen it years ago" - so what? Many folks, myself included have just seen it for the first time. I'm more than happy to see something that's been out for a while, that's of great all-around quality and enjoyable to watch, than many of the flaccid shorts that are recently available.

A former coworker... we had just had an hours long course in computer security and business security. Lots of great info about things like phishing and spearphishing. Later that same day, he took a phone call when it was just the two of us there. I listened to him go on for about 45 minutes about specific procedures in great detail. He hung up, I said "Who was that?" He looked at me and said.... "I don't know." He had not bothered to even ask who was asking him all those specific questions. Much less confirm they were who they said they were. In fact, proper procedure would have been for him to only tell the caller that this is above his paygrade, and he'll have our boss call him back. I was the new guy. How was it I knew more about security? I brought this up with the boss when he got back from lunch. He called around and confirmed that it was indeed someone with permission to talk about such things. But my coworker got a bit of a roast by the boss for doing what he did.

I'm just seeing this! Loved it! The music too! I took a BUNCH of screenshots. Unless that's illegal. In that case, no screenshots were taken. Great Flick!

That's what happens when you use Windows on your servers. Even Microsoft themselves use Linux on their own servers. I just didn't know we had a network connection across the universe?!? That was kinda a surprise.

That was great! The fact it told a story in under 10 minutes makes it better.

Everybody knows you don't F' with Cthulu.😀 Wonderful short, but as others have already stated, I sorta check-out when the main character wrong-headedly constructed a "supercomputer" with spare parts. A closed network could simply have been done through a virtual system (ex:software). Still, I was able to click my tongue, tolerate the insult to my field of study, and complete the short.

As a many years software developer I really enjoyed this piece. The error noise brought back memories of bad days with Windows 98, XP and NT. Only one criticism - it needs some BSODS! I worked at a NOC (Network Operations Center) as a software developer once and believe it or not one of the users somehow managed to infect several computers on the network! They should have known better. The sys admin managed to alert everyone in time to keep the worm contained to just a few machines. I shut off my machine immediately and avoided getting infected. Computers and networks were a lot slower back in the day so there was time to shut down. Everyone was back up and running in a couple of hours. Happily, no interstellar berserker showed up and no one got conked on the head by a cult loon. -dave

4:25 - "Luckily for me I had enough spare parts to build my own supercomputer" Ha ha! At the time desktop machines looked like that, a supercomputer was a big machine, and not one that you knocked up from spare parts to get yourself out of a jam. I guess once he got it built, he quickly wrote an operating system for it - in Microsoft Visual C ! But he didn't get it right - 8:38 "Operating Systems Script Error" Still and all - he doesn't flap easily! What a guy!
