Some science fiction doesn't so much predict the future as cause and inspire it. Flip cell phones for example were inspired by Star Trek TOS communicators.
@barelyasurvivor12572 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember reading about that years ago. Of course, I grew up watching the original Star Trek, so it was very interesting to read how Star Trek influenced people to invent things based on the show It was fascinating to me.

So, visualize time as a river, with cause upstream. Humans have created 'eddies' where locally, and on a small scale, the effect comes first. I'd love to see the math on that.

Being capable of such precise temporal navigation...as demonstrated by the blaster, falling to pieces before it could be aimed, wouldn't it have been just as easy to go backwards/"forwards?", to a/the time that the deadly pathogen had been contracted, to either entirely prevent the initial transmission of said disease to..patient zero, or to have been MORE than thoroughly prepared.."BSL-4 minimum equipment" to find and isolate patient zero..travel to whatever point in time where.."when" the means to develop a vaccine to the pathogenic agent.."be it viral, bacterial or even genetic", And..with the cure..in hand, go BACK to just before it BECAME a wingspread hazard, with the..now, fully inoculated patient zero..AND to wherever the disease had cone from, and destroy it, at its source so that no future expeditions might stumble upon it once again??😅

honestly that was just so mean. he sees an uninhabited world, there are laws in place to take uninhabited worlds, he followed the letter of the law and left to wait for the owners of the planet to respond. literally all the humans had to do was say "yes we exist, that planet is ours please go away" and he would have just left. instead they stole his crew, blacklisted him from refueling his ship, stole all his money, stole his fleet of ships that rightfully belonged to him, broke his gun as he tried to defend his ground after the human trespassed on his ship, and then threatened to throw him in prison without cause. the humans are 100% the bad guys in this story, I feel so bad for that poor alien fellow that just wanted an easy paycheck. that'd be like murdering a persons parents and burning down his house just because he decided to open a hotdog stand on your street, not knowing that you hated hotdogs with a fiery passion and you where president of a secret anti hotdog vigilante group that ruins the lives of anyone who sells hotdogs.

Ignoring the fact he was practically a criminal, mafia boss styled loan shark? Aka, a person who gives peoples loans with interest rates that makes banks look reasonable and fair by comparison, loans that said person will never be able to repay. A person who treated their employees, ones acquired through moral grey areas like slaves. The humans had done their research, of course, they knew about his stint in prision after all. They knew what he did in his past. If the xeno was "Just" A salvager. It would be overkill, I grant you that. But given that this scumbag likely pulled the exact same shit on people he didn't like? I reckon it was fair.
@DragonJohn3 жыл бұрын
@@Destroyer_V0 not 'practically' a criminal. he was sentenced for crimes on his home world then proceeded to steal a ship so he would not face his punishment.

Some places are not abandoned, some places are isolated for a reason, considering this xeno did the equivalent of interrupting the changing of the guard at the memorial/tomb of the unknown soldier while violating the perimeter of a closed off and secure military base . . . Yea I’d say the loan shark got off easy tbh
