Being a person that can "fall in love" with just about anything, I can very much relate to this movie. My heart aches when I throw away old slippers I wore for two years, but if "an object" would be so human like with an AI taught to love me, a piece of me would probably die, too. We just have to start asking ourselves serious questions as this future is not that far away.

Being a similar person this movie really resonated with my current situation. I have spent the last 16 years caring for my love who has been dying slowly from her own genetic enzyme (Huntington's Disease). She is still trapped in that failing body and unfortunately there is no USB drive to download her to.

What makes this film so unique and special is the (inevitable) closure to it's story line. Yet, still with some clever reveals. So first, this actress was brilliant. I think we all fell in love a little bit with Rebecca. Where a lot of sci-fi shorts love to leave open ended and very ambiguous endings, this film did close it's story line in a satisfactory manner, and although a tragic ending, also left with a ray of hope. I appreciated that. And even though yes technically a sci-fi film, this film was far more about love. Just such a beautiful film, I could gush on and on about how great it was, but suffice to say I truly enjoyed it, and this story will stick with me for a long time. Well done.

If Blade Runner were presented only as a love story. I loved the subtle callbacks: "More Human Than Human," Tyrell's motto, is mentioned here. Also, our hero barges into his room, lovesick and worried, to find Rachael, er, Rebecca, undercover and not dead but asleep. What a delightful little short that asks big questions. Bravo.

Generally this is not the type of plot I prefer (romantic). But on the other hand, I love the sci-fi genre. This romantic-scientific film is simply sensational. Well taken care of in the details of production and direction, and captivating actors. I'm 54 years old and I've never been more touched by a story than I was watching this gem. On the surface, the ending was emotional. Thinking a bit deeper, it was scary; manipulating him really well to survive. After all, since she is only a trained robot, the love shown is just a perfectly simulated output as opposed to actual feelings on her end.

I mean, our emotions are just chemicals that fire off as a way to encourage us to behave in a ways to ensure our survival. So how is it all that different?

The robot would not do any of those things... it would simulate it perfectly, to the point where it wouldn't be possible for you to tell the difference. But in reality it doesn't feel things, even though it would be trained to act like it does through its output (and to convince you that it's true). Now... the question is, what happens if you mix biology with AI? For example, getting a real human body with a wiped out brain, and transferring a super AI into it instead. I don't know if that would be possible, but I'm thinking that something like that might be the only way for it to truly feel (beyond just an accurately simulated output) Some interesting things

Robots will not do this unless they are programmed to do so. This is the difference between simulating emotions and truly feeling them. A psychopath is a good example of someone who simulates emotions without actually feeling them. both of them can mimic the external expressions of emotions, but they do not actually experience those emotions themselves.

This falls on the category of "people that did this should have millions upon millions of dollars of budget to make more movies, as they are far better than anything Hollywood has pumped out in many many years". The problem with Hollywood is yes they will give you that money but then they have a committee offering "improvements". These movies may not have a large budget but they are truer to the vision of the director and writers. Sure, no work of art is ever "complete"; it's just the artist that stops. But some artists stop before the art gets really good, and this commenter presumably believes the artist stopped only after the (nearest) high point. If this short were to become a miniseries, it would take several chapters to get something this good again. You see? It's not that the commenter "can't think".

Absolutely by far THE best dust short I've ever seen. This was just so well done. The only thing that would have made it that much more personable would have been a more romantic scene, but that isn't allowed on youtube. Either way, so well done. These two leads are great actors, and Nika is stunningly, classically beautiful. I really want to see her in more things like this. She reminds me of a fling I once had years ago. So in touch and such caring eyes.

I approve of the ending that actually makes sense. As soon we're told that she's going to "die", I was immediately asking why the generated-data portions of her couldn't be copied to a new body. The idea that a person has to end with their body is a human one, not a machine one. We transplant files, settings, entire operating systems from one computer to another all the time. The fact that she *made a backup* is an obvious solution to their problem.

Truly sorry Steve, and believe me when I say I understand. Cancer took my wife four years ago. It's a hard thing to come to grips with. A divorce you can make some kind of sense of. Some reason for it. Been through one of those. This you cannot. Or I can't anyway. You don't stop loving them, they're just... gone. And not a damned thing you can do to fix it or change it. It's not something you ever really get over, just something you learn to live with.

_Today's science fiction is tomorrow's world._ I didn't coin this phrase. It was the opening to a UK science based television programme, that began broadcasting on BBC in 1965, aptly called _Tomorrow's World,_ in which current technology at the time and it's applications and potential were examined. Budget cuts finally ended it's long run, sadly. I looked forward to watching it every Tuesday evening. We're led to believe _Spot_ and _Atlas,_ etc, are the latest in cutting edge robotic technology today and that Siri and Alexa are in their own field, too. AIs routinely beat world grandmasters at chess, Plinko (?) etc, nowadays. A combination of AI and robotics astonished the world, when she joked about killing everyone and taking over the world. We're told computers were, initially, obsolete after five years. Now it's ten months. Personally, I think we're being flannelled, but this fear humanity in general has towards these kinds of technology is, I feel, the reason we are not made aware of the incredible rate of advancement. One year ago, for example, _Spot_ and _Atlas_ could open a door, do acrobatics and dance. _Spot,_ it seems, will be on the next Mars mission. Not a lot of doors or dance floors on Mars, the last I heard. 😂 How far has it progressed behind the scenes, I wonder, to have been catapulted to space mission status? How far have the rest progressed? We live in interesting times. We always have done and will always continue to do do. Live long and Prosper! 😜😂😂😂

Very well written dialog in the boardroom. Not easy to Convery different characters and their role in the business, with a ping pong of one liners while at the same time sketching the main plot of the story. The boardroom cast also delivered their lines naturally, helped by the dynamic docu type edit, to make the scene credible. Rarely I think of the script writers when watching something, but this was top notch. The rest of the dialog is also good: Lines are not written to explain the plot to the audience, story is told through the main characters interaction, the body language and what questions, the dialog is raising in the audience. This is really top class writing. Far higher ´level than the usual blockbuster.

It's hard to do sci-fi romance in a way that's not either very contrived, very sexist, or very shallow. You guys have managed to avoid all these traps and make a half hour short film that's more moving than most two hour Hollywood romances. Outstanding work!

I LOVED this little film. The cast was really good. The Rebecca actress really sold it for me. Cinematography, locations, sets, art dept. & costumes - all GOOD! The story's premise and the acting had me thinking about aspects of the film for days, and you really can't ask for more than that. Someone else in Comments section mentioned would like to see a sequel. Well, I second that motion! Best of luck to your team in future productions. That mixed feeling of putting down a good book/movie after a great story, on the one hand wishing it had been longer, and on the other hand immensely grateful that it wasn't ruined by being dragged on for 6-7 years, way past the point where the story runs out, and it just becomes repetitive to squeeze out more from a successful franchise. Job well done! Both by the writing crew, film team and cast! This one will live on in my memories!

It was somewhat predictable from the beginning. Yet somehow, it still managed to be have a few surprises. The two main characters really draw you in and take you along for the ride. This is not a new concept but, its retold here in a delightful way. Great job on this!

I know, because he's a self absorbed corporate stooge. No wonder he flies solo. Also corporate boardrooms of the future look like white supremacy, with the sole black dude doing all the actual work at the plantation, I mean the lab. 4/10 stars.

To me the most interesting aspect of this film is not the love/relationship, but the idea of how far till something is not human and what is human. Like she clearly displayed her ability to make choices however they are based on preset information pathways. Still it is more interesting to me the way the film demonstrated and made some people think “what is human and is love as special as we are made to believe”.

Here's the thing; "love" (not physical attraction) is an attachment to someone or something because it/they add something to our lives that we can not get any other way. It doesn't really matter who or what it is, but after time, the thought of losing that added part of our life can be distressing, even emotionally unbearable. You can love your old faithful pick-up truck and feel just as distressed to find out the transmission is burnt up and not worth the expense to fix it, as you can feel about anything that adds to your life. As far as "pre-programed" responses; a true A.I. adjusts it's own programming to alter it's responses to be more appropriate to any given situation. If you think about it, a human does the exact same thing. As an infant, most of what we do is instinctive (pre-programmed) response. It takes several years of experiences for an infant to grasp it's own identity and begin exploring it's own independent thoughts - but it does - called "The Terrible Twos". The A.I. would have to be far more complex than anything we have today, but my guess is it's not as far away as we might think. If the "companion" could be built to your specifications; what you find most physically attractive, and it looks, smells and acts human, and has basic behaviors you find most appealing, NOT falling in love with it would be the unusual response.

Wait, i have another idea... In the dystopian future, (almost) everyone is literally a faceless drone and its prohibited to show your face - direct social interaction is illegal, except via (surveilled) digital media. There is total mass media control of the masses, censorship everywhere and a allmighty police state together with big corporations suppresses every form of dissent - sometimes violently. There are no more civil rights and liberty and only people who have fully subjugated themselves to the system have some freedoms left, like shopping, travelling or going out. But it comes with a cost, to be able to participate its mandatory to get injected with an experimental, barely tested vaccine - with unforeseeable side effects... Moment, thats just our present.
