What makes this a Good Scifi :, realms of mystique colors, sounds, I think it's also the acting, good cast and... did I hear the notes of the Queen Mary funeral March ... One of the best movies I have ever seen. Incredibly beautiful cinematography, music, acting, screenplay, everything! Loved the short film. And REALLY LOVED the full-length version of this movie! As a full-time working BG (BackGround) actor aka "extra" in New York City, I see firsthand how much money is spent on movies and what the results are. And for this full-length feature film to have only cost $4 million dollars? AMAZING! These filmmakers are true geniuses and I hope they make a continuation, a part 2, to debut feature-length film "Prospect". WHAT AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE! If you have not seen "Prospect", find it online at a Video On Demand (VOD) platform like Apple movies, Hulu, or elsewhere. I saw it on Hulu. It was incredible. See it on a large screen and crank up the sound and invite over as many cool friends as you can fit in the room. Heat up some popcorn and start the movie! Goroto Jr + I'd prefer a mechanical gun over a laser gun. You can fix a mechanical gun relatively easy, few moving parts, made of metal or Carbon Fiber Nanotubes (it is the future) and you don't need very specialized skills to fix or operate one. It's also extremely durable and would hold up under harsh condition. A laser on the other hand takes a bunch of power and if it stops functioning you would need the specialized expertise to fix it, not to mention the electronic parts you'd have to carry and they are also probably more delicate than the metal parts of the Mech gun. I would also think a Lasers electronics would be far less durable to impacts (dropping it, turbulence in craft, etc..). So the upside to a mechanical gun is 1- Ease of repair, 2- Not subject to power failures or short circuits, 3- More durable. The downside, 1- Harder to learn how to operate. 2- Limited supply of ammunition due to the need in carrying some kind of propellent for the bullets (remember, it's the future so it doesn't have to be gunpowder and can be more compact) along with the shells, primers and of course the bullets This is assuming all the ingredients and machinery to make a complete round of ammo are inaccessible for whatever reason. Lastly, while the mechanical gun may be heavier, this can be a downside (harder to carry long distances) or an upside (great club if you run out of bullets) Upside to the Laser, 1- Lighter. 2- Probably more compact, 3- Rechargeable power supply, 4- ease of repair if electronics are plug-ins, 5-easier to learn how to fire (no recoil... probably). Down side, 1- Difficult to repair if the repair requires more then plugging in a new part, 2- not as durable overall, i.e. Electronics are Susceptible to EMPs and moisture. Finally, after all this writing and thinking, since it's the future, they could have high powered Air Rifles (obviously much more powerful than current tech Think 30/06) and that would take care of all the downsides for both LAser and chemical propellent "Guns". Air Rifles are Durable, easy to repair, very few moving parts, no need for chemical or electronic propellants, Very few over all parts and are mostly very small, so not a big area needed for storage of parts. You could have it operate with a small High pressure Air Tank (like a paintball gun) that could be refilled if the alien planet did not have an atmosphere. Tanks don't need O2, just pressure from some sort of gas. So was my reply long enough. LOL. Thanks.. :)
@comradecameron37266 жыл бұрын
Robert S. Robert S. Slow your roll there buddy. That wasn’t my point (lasers are better). My point was that gun was at least 200-300 years old at that point the gun should be in a museum of relics not being used. Take a look at Halo for example it takes place 500 years in the future and humans are still using lead as their weapon of choice. I do agree with some of your points about the weight of the weapons but more weight means more energy to transport well anything. But I don’t think lasers will never be a suitable weapon. Lasers have a higher chance of blinding you than doing damage. Somewhere on KZbin someone made a laser gun that was brighter than the sun but all it did was pop balloons and burn his walls somewhat. Plasma on the other hand can do some real damage if you look at the Halo lore plasma can melt through armor quite easily. Going even further I believe plasma weaponry would be simple to operate and have very little recoil. As for the part on how complicated the machine is I disagree. I think that both weapon types need significant training to use but I do not think that it would take an expert in anything to maintain either weapon. Lead guns need to be cleaned after every use then reassembled. And plasma guns need to be recharged/reloaded with whatever they use and inspected to make sure they are working properly and won’t be burned through during use. Both weapon types have their ups and downs. But back to my original point that gun in the film is old as rocks and needs to be preserved. (sorry for the length)
@roberts.30556 жыл бұрын
Goroto Jr + Guess I got carried away with my reasoning. LOL. Your original point is well taken. You make some good points in your reply on which would be a better weapon to have if you were in the middle of nowhere/universe with no support. Just a fun thought experiment. Looking forward to seeing the full length film. Thanks.. :)

This is a short film made before the actual film, short films are often made to see if an audience would like a full-length film with the same story. short films are also often sent to film festivals instead of cinemas, that's why fewer people get to see them. Highly recommend visiting a film festival, they are a ton of fun and have a lot of really creative media to show.
