love that Death looked at the old soldier and basically gestured him "Bro you really should drop smoking, that'll kill you faster" Also now I can't unthink this situation in the second story of a fresh human pilot arguing with an old guiding soul "Nah mate, you should turn right at the next cluster, it'll be faster" "Listen, I know what I'm doing" "Mate trust me, turn right and you'll be there in less time" "Just let me drive" "LISTEN TO ME" "DUDE YOU ARE A LITERAL DEAD SOUL" "YEAH ONE THAT LIVES HERE YA GIT SO SHUT UP AND TURN RIGH....oh great you missed it, now get to the next planetoid and turn right" ".....next time I want another soul" "Are you telling me I suck at giving directions? Mate, sooner or later we all end up in Sub-space, don't make me come looking for you when the time comes" "...and when would that be?" "Do I look like feckin' Tyresias mate? Now hush and turn right"

We didn’t create death, we simply called upon an old friend. Death has been with us always, by our side, whether we were predator or prey, sick or healthy, old or young, rich or poor, soldier or king, it has been with us always. He’s been with us from our very beginnings as scavengers and hunters, through every war and battle, every peaceful era, every fatal accident, murder, sacrifice, suicide, starvation, plague, flood, earthquake, wildfire, hurricane, tornado and tsunami. Of course, we fear it, as we fear most unknowns, but we don’t fear him, nor will we shy away when he arrives to lead us into whatever comes after.

So the sufficiently advanced technology doesn't do what it seems like, it does’t make, it uses another force or source. This could be a genera. Using other demensional energies and porting strange physics or laws is one thing, but mistaking sufficiently advanced technologies or not realizing its like dc and marvel tech that is too easy to make and thus uses some energy or something is its own thing.

In the first story, no one could summon or chose to summon something stronger than the glory, joy, or pride of the Vul'krim until humanity dredged up death or fear thereof. I see the reason to have a soldier and a scarred woman be the ones sent to summon the grim reaper since it would be quite acute in their minds, but was the "philosophers" just what humanity presented them as, or did they actually fill this role in regular contemplation of morality or nature?
@Demonicpurity3 жыл бұрын
I figure the philosophy of death would take a book, so it was probably a copout on the author's part. Beyond that, the philosophy of it could be argued a thousand ways. The Soldier could be the 'lucky' one, the lone survivor, the one left behind, the elderly, the one that death did not take despite taking everyone around him. Yet. The Scarred Woman could be the unlucky one, the victim, the one that refuses to die, the young, the one death seems to always stand just out of view for, waiting for her to tire. The philosopher's could be therapists. Helping guide the thoughts of the first two. Or one could be a philosopher of the concept of death spiritually and religiously while the other is a philosopher of the reality of death in the medical sciences and life. How it comes, how it goes, where it came from, cotton eye joe.
