Fun Fact: The actor who plays John Cable/Robocable was in the 80s sci-fi series Captain Power and The Soldiers of the Future as the member of the team whose power suit gave him the ability to disguise himself.

Imagine if we could have gotten a version of this story in the original universe instead of Robocop 3, with Peter Weller as Robocop. That film would have killed it at the box office!

@@AaronMorrisTheSteamFoxIt is interesting with the writers who try to make sequels to Robocop. They all want to make different versions of Robocop, their version. Rarely is it to increase the number of Robocops. Imagine where dead cops are successfully made into Robocops. Wasn't that the original idea of the classic movie?

@@gregorymcavoy758yeah, I watched the remake, and it's just a totally different movie. Rather than a tale of how corruption came into Detroit (yes, IRL, fictionalized a bit to avoid scrutiny), the remake is a moral lesson about mass surveillance. Not the same story at all, although a few elements are recycled to lure fans of the original franchise.

I wasn't familiar with this character, or the show he's from, but I did see the 2010s Robocop movie. And while the darker parts of the movie aren't presented as over the top satire, like the the original and its first sequel (I haven't seen the third one) often did, I didn't think it was a bad movie. The ED units were given a darker, sleeker, and not laughable presence as well. I like the original a bit more still, maybe cause I saw it as a little kid and have that nostalgia factor, but I enjoyed the remake too.

Robocable was always a cool concept. By this point it was years since Bob Norton and his team, and we had already seen that OCP without that team and perfect storm of research and know how failed to replicate Robocop. So it was reasonable for someone at some point to just say, 'well why don't we just replicate what norton did step for step instead?
@anthonyjenkins2001
@anthonyjenkins2001 Жыл бұрын
Bob Morton But that doesn't make any sense. Why would you replicate what was surely an outdated experiment by this point? Why cram useless tech into a supposedly new RoboCop? All they did was give him two pistols. Woop de doo! 🙄 Whatever software that ran Robo would've surely been obsolete at that point and who's to say Cable would've assimilated to it? And if it were so easy why didn't Dr Flax do the exact same thing once all the other Robos went haywire in RoboCop 2?

I have a lot of thoughts about this because nobody I know saw this set of films. I did not really like these straight to dvd Robocop films because they did not capture Verhoeven's vision. In the theatrical films Robo 1, Verhoeven managed to blend the most extreme gun violence and language with comedic moments like the news clips and tv ads. Also, the villains were usually oddly funny (example: Boddicker hitting on Jones secretary & Boddickers crew each had funny moments). Verhoeven also bought this charm to the Starship Trooper movies before the studio ran that franchise to the ground. Kirchner directed Robo 2 and was able to capture some of Verhoeven's vision, but once again the studio wanted to sell merch because somehow Robocop attracted kids and they wanted a safer experience to sell more tickets. We got the steaming pile of dog poo that was Robocop 3. I felt these set of Robo movies followed in the footsteps of the unwatchable Robocop 3. None of the charm of the first 2 films were present in 3 or these dvds. The other problem I had with this was creating another Robocop in the same style as Murphy. Whenever a franchise does this, it takes away from the title characters. Even if Robocable was a different build like maybe War Machine to Stark's Iron Man, where there are similarities, but you can tell the difference, then it would be better than this. I felt if they were going to go this route, then Cable should have survived, and Murphy should have died since Murphy's original cast (and actor was gone) therefore, I felt his story is pretty much done. Crowbarring his grown-up son was interesting, but from what I recall it was underutilized. I felt there should have been more emotional scenes. What is it to see your father as a cyborg? Was there resentment on his son's part that Murphy never visited him (even though Murphy tried). To bring my juggernaut review to a close, I felt Cable should have ushered in a new set of films the fans would accept. This was done with another defunct series called the Highlander. The Highlander in theaters had heavyweights at the time like Chris Lambert (Colin McCloud) and Sean Connery, but the tv series created a new character Duncan McCloud (like these movies) played by Adrian Paul, who had the same abilities of immortality. The show was such a hit, they got 6 years out of the franchise which led to one more theatrical film that joined the original cast and the tv cast together. That is what Robocable could have done but alas this remains in what Mr Sunday calls 'the caravan of garbage'. I did look up Robocop and apparently Verhoeven wanted to return to the franchise by making a direct sequel to Robocop 1 that would have ignored part 2 and 3. I do not think we will ever get that film. I also wonder if the original actors Nancy Allen and Peter Weller would return. Unfortunately, the captain and the Old man are no longer with us, so they would need to figure out how to get around that. Hopefully, they won't bring back the Kanemitsu Corporation. I would like to see Cyberdyne Systems take over and we get the beginning of the famed Robocop vs Terminator that has been in development hell since the 90s. If you like what you read or were somewhat entertained. Please give me a like and or a comment. I am gauging interest of building a review platform. I truly appreciate it.

Truly Robocable is no doubt an upgraded version to Robocop but the only difference between the 2 is that Cable's tragedy was worse. Unlike Murphy Cable married a power driven wife who do anything & sacrifice anyone to see her ambition come to fruition & by an ex-OCP employee who have beef WITH OCP. Despite the reprogramming as well as being use as a pawn by his wife Cable save Delta City from from that ex-OCP employee as well and reminds Murphy who he is.

Oh man, I missed this back in the day. In the original RoboCop, Murphys change into RoboCop was the peak of cybernetics, yet he is armed with a burst fire 9mm that can be stored inside the thigh. So RoboCable is the upgrade, think they might give him a bigger gun, or a fabricated weapon that can do more stuff? Nope! Instead he gets to dual wield chrome berretas, and get a new targeting system that is chrome too RoboCable? More like RoboBling!

For all its flaws, pacing and editing being the worst, Robocop Prime Directives is worth a watch. While on a budget, the production tried very hard to capture the feel of the original Robocop film. For the most part, they actually pulled it off with the corporate subplots, the offbeat humor and news stories in the mini-series. Robocop is Robocop in this mini-series. The ending was solid. (Just make sure to watch the scenes during the credits of the last part of the mini-series.) Care went into the making of this mini-series. If you can get passed the flaws of the mini-series, it is an enjoyable six hour watch.

Robocop cable was a little faster and his defense abilities were in inhanested a little bit more. And he was able to send and call to robocop 001. He was able to select different types of amo on the fly
