The sciatic nerve is the largest peripheral nerve in the body, and extends from the lower end of the spinal cord, through the thigh, before dividing just above the knee joint. Time to test your knowledge on the sciatic nerve: khub.me/81kn5

The sciatic nerve is a large, bilateral nerve which is formed from the anterior and posterior divisions of spinal nerves L4, L5, S1, S2, and S3. It is the largest branch of the lumbosacral plexus.
The sciatic nerve proper innervates the proximal parts of the hamstring muscles, which are the semitendinosus, semimembranosus and biceps femoris muscles.
In addition, it also supplies innervation to the ischial component of adductor magnus.
After the nerve bifurcates, it innervates the long head of biceps femoris, semimembranosus, semitendinosus and adductor magnus muscles, via the tibial component, and the short head of biceps femoris, through its common peroneal component.
It's two terminal branches are the tibial and common peroneal nerves, which provide motor and sensory innervation to the leg and foot.

I had this! Most horrible pain that I have ever endured. For over 4 months I was in excruciating pain. Could not sit stand or sleep. Went to chiropractor. He hurt worse and never helped. For some reasin never went to my Dr for it. Kept thinking it would go away. I was hurting so bad I quit chiropractor after 4 months. One thing left to do. I prayed and cried in pain to God to help rid me of my pain. In about two days I started getting relief from my pain. Took about 2-3 days and I started getting some badly needed sleep and from their on I got better everyday for a complete recovery. I have much to thank God for. That was not the first thing I ask God for Help. He has never let me down. I am a sinner and I beg his forgiveness every day.

I have had sciatica for 50 years. In both legs but never both at the same time. The pain is extremely intense. I did find a cure about 35 years ago; If I have it in my left leg, I simply lie on my back and place a pillow under my left butt. I lie for about 10-15 minutes . Pain gone. This method works for me on both legs.

Acute sciatica generally occurs when the periformus nerve in the pelvic area goes into spasm, constricting the sciatic nerve, resulting in pain running down the maximus gluteus, around the knees and down to the feet area. A potent natural anti inflammatory along with magnesium glycinate is very helpful.

I looked all the way down & its gone becouse as i stated in the comment how covering up cures makes doctors & Pharmaceuticals rich. This is why i generally comment only under others comments. The 100 or so topics i care most about are ones which enemies like CCP & NWO don't want us talking about. An amino acid from the vitamin store called DLPA is what we're depleted of so when we damage are sciatic nerve, everytime we move the muscles cramp up on the nerve damaging it further. When our government intel agencies want something removed, it takes three days. Talk about covid, it disappears in two hours. So is are Pharmaceutical companies in bed with the CCP, NWO or both.

If you are a woman, consult a gynecologist. Sciatica and sciatic like nerve pain is also associated with uterine enlargement such as with adenomyosis or with gynecological masses such as fibroids etc. It is worth investigation. If the pain is worse around the menstrual cycle then definitely see a gyn.

exactly right. If you need real pain killers for real pain and go to the doctor nowdays, you have to saw your own arm off and show it to them. They might give you 10 Codiene #3 for that...or Ibuprofin. I saw a doctor with a broken finger and he was eating Percocet. They don't want to lose that license. Hippocratic oath is gone. IF you have to have pain meds, you gotta get them on the street. Might kill you, but the pain is worse than death.

When I have a "spell" of Sciatica, I have to do the same thing, pull my knee up against my chest and HOLD IT< and try to STRETCH IT. That brings a little relief when it wakes me up in the night. I usually Start a "spell" by bending over in a hurry to pick somehting up off the ground. The last spell I was trying to pick up a Dog Biscuit the dog dropped. I never touch it, just reached for it. I forget to FAVOR my spine when I bend over is when it "happens". It lasts from a few days to three months. I take hydrocodone and muscle relaxers. The STRETCHES HELP. I have an "Anterolisthesis" I might not have spelled that correctly, but they want to do surgery and FUSE the joint. It is getting worse. I have had it for 30 years. Also have 3 herniated discs. But the STRETCHES can really help. My attacks come after a time of inactivity as a rule, but not always. BB

I solved my own back problems. First, decompress the spine by hanging from a horizontal tree branch( more comfortable to hang from than a skinny metal bar ), next, while hanging, flex the spine to and frow by throwing your legs forward into a crunch position, and a little side to side. It's important to never let go of the branch while in a position other than straight. Second, while standing, place both hands over each other on your stomach, below your navel, next, push deep into your stomach with your hands, and while doing so, tilt your hips forward. This will counteract the spines natural arch and might cause your back to crack. A common problem is that this natural arch becomes too arched, causing problems throughout the spine. I hope this helps some of you with any back problems you might also have.

High heels also effect the curvature of the spine. I wore heels for 15 years ( work related ) and I have a curve to my lower spine my doctor says is from wearing heels. I find rolling into a ball , legs crunched into chest and lightly rocking back and forth over the lower back, compressing it to the floor counteracts the harsh curve - or copping a squat like your gonna do a number 2 outside also counteracts the curvature of my spine znd relieves spasms

@@c.a.greene8395 Hahaha, that's an interesting method also. However I think the decompression by hanging, in combination with the stretching/flexing, is healthier on the disks between spine bones. I think the overall issue is that these disks get slightly misaligned with the bones of the spine and to put them back in line requires decompression and a little flexing.

Do you mean hanging vertical?
@amochswohntet99
@amochswohntet99 2 жыл бұрын
@@dk6173 Find a tree branch that is parallel with the ground and hang from it by your hands. Your head, shoulders and arms are heavier than you think and this weight is supported by your spine in addition to the weight of your torso itself. By hanging from the branch you are taking this weight off, and then with the crunch movement, while hanging, that I mentioned you are hopefully putting the disks of your spine back into alignment.

Sciatica can be acute or chronic. An acute episode may last between one and two weeks and usually resolves itself in a few weeks. It's fairly common to experience some numbness for a while after the pain has subsided. You may also have sciatic episodes a handful of times a year.👍

I have had this problem with swelling in my legs and ankles for years and have developed brown to black spots under the heels of my feet but never knew what to do about it, I was told just recently to do some stretching exercises and was told that it could become more serious but that was all my medical team did, they did not seem to take it seriously and until recently I did not associate it with tingling and the other pain that was going on in the rest of my body and the information did not associate all these conditions as one; there is where education comes in not scattered learning but just what I am reading here associating your condition and then helping you to work toward solving it so you are able to participate in your wellness and know what you are doing, does that make sense? I like knowledge based on fact so that I can better help in maintaining my health.

I have sciatic problems now and then and find that riding a motorcycle can ease it ! A physio told me that it is because riding a motorcycle causes me to 'tension' my core muscles and thereby improve my situation. Maybe if you laid on your bed and tried to tense your whole body muscles it could have a posistive effect ?Just do it for a little while at first then longer times - it works for me !

I don't know if it is mentioned in the comments below. When you showed the figure to say sciatica only happens on one side, you circled the wrong leg. You showed the right leg when you showed the figure from the back, but when you showed the figure from the front you circled the left leg..

My dad is 89 years old and has suffered from this for 10 years. All they do is tell him to take an Ibuprofin and live with it. No pain med relief at all. He's never drank or smoked in his life...but can't get a damned pain med like Vicodin which would work 3X a day. The pain is killing him. Other than that his body and mind are in great shape. Ever since these lawyers got on the pain killer bandwagon and sued because of kids ripping off their grandmas pain meds, seniors have no relief and the drugs they made were specifically designed for that kind of relief. They don't give a shit. I might have to give him some medical weed gummies, but he hates that shit. I don't like it either. I tried it when I got attacked by a pit bull and almost tore my hand off 2 years ago...they gave me Ibuprofin. I used to be a pretty good golfer, now my right hand is mangled and hurts all the time, even after 5 surgeries.

I have learned, try laying on a harder surface, with both legs up on a chair seat, or many pillows. It takes the pressure off of the lower back, and also what helps is a frozen bag of veggies, makes the nerve go down in size, might slip out of the place where it's stuck. Good Luck to your grandpop.

I know what you mean. Everyone is treated like a drug addict. Why do they have the stuff if you can't use it? When my dad was dying and getting very short of breath I asked for his oxygen to be bumped up but no that's not safe because it can make him stop breathing. Well his deathwas imminent anyway so why can't he be more comfortable?

They pushed them for yrs and said how well they work, then they don't. It's our government! The trafficking and drugs into our country is being done by the CIA,FBI and the government. The ones dying are the addicts, not the responsible ones who have to have the mess and the ones dying are dying from meth and hermon! And they bring g it in! Can't cut into their funds now can we! And methadone is legal on every corner cause it's what? You guessed it! Government run!

Hey. Love your videos. They're a great review. I noticed you didn't mention piriformis syndrome as a cause of sciatica. It is fairly common especially in people who sit a lot, leaning to one side or keeping a wallet in their back pocket. I've seen it a number of times throughout my 10 year practice as a massage therapist. Is there a reason why it wasn't included? No judgement. Just curious. Always open to learn. 🙂

However it is common it is only 200-300k a year in cases out of 3-7 million cases of sciatica symptoms a year in the states alone . It’s fair to mention it yes but it is kinda rare. Now your spine is the leading cause of it .

I have spent 3 weeks in a swiss hospital with hardened piriformis muscle getting no help but pain killers, injections in my spine and other unnessecary treatments, eventhough after a week a physiotherapist made the correct diagnosis. No muscle relaxants were given to me until I asked for them, no massage to loosen the muscle. I was unable to go home because I could not stand or sit, so they sent me to a nursery home. And there I got help from a physiotherapist. It was my worst experience with "modern western medicine" and the pain was so strong that I wished my soul would leave my body.
@Cherrryl87
@Cherrryl87 2 жыл бұрын
@@timodavis6805 Yes-- but who is making these diagnoses ? Is it GPs or specialists (sports medicine doctors, neurologists, physiotherapists, etc)? If GPs aren't familiar enough with piriformis syndrome, then it would be easy to jump to the conclusion of the problem originating solely from the spine on symptoms alone. Is every diagnosis made with both MRI and x-ray? Given how expensive medical care is in the States, I doubt that. It's important to not rely so heavily on statistics and perceive them more as a guide than 100% fact. However-- let's assume that the stats are correct. A tight piriformis would further exacerbate sciatic pain even if it is originating at the spine. Problems don't exist in a vacuum. I say this all with respect 🙏.

@@ritahorvath8207 I have a nerve or muscle that runs laterally just below my right butt check. I can't lay on my back and it generates pain after a half hour. My only relief has been to lay my leg on its side so the foot contacts the opposite leg. If it get really bad, I bought a hard rubber "hand ball"? I fold a towel and position it on the bed that place the towel over it. I then position the painful area over the ball, that compresses the pain area and stops the pain shortly. I've been to PT and anything they have done only temporarily works.

As a paraplegic that sits all day, every day, my sciatica is beyond intense and causes me severe discomfort. Sadly, there seems to be nothing I can do to mitigate the discomfort, as stretching, etc., never eliminates my pain, because I sit all day and the sciatic nerve is always being irritated or impinged upon. I'd give anything to get rid of my sciatica, but that's just not going to happen, so I breathe in, breathe out and deal w/ it. smh

(never thought i would be in this position) the only thing that gave me some relief was a chair and a seated position.. i was so close to fainting from the pain and i have a high pain tolerance.. the ambulance picked me up and i took 3 different drips of painkillers and was seated for 7 hours before i could go home and lay down. the pain is now minimal but my toes and shin is numb and i have about 10% of my strength in my toes when pushing up. so strange that my toes seem limp. and i am getting random spasms down my right leg.
