Well in canada it is banned from using it for the sleep of the baby but not banned from changing the diapers for ex. Im so afraid to buy it since theres an alert here in canada
@amberlysoto5 жыл бұрын
Fanny Harris Why is it banned?
@basicbaroque5 жыл бұрын
@@amberlysoto It's basically a giant pillow. If a baby turned their face towards the edges, it could be a SIDS hazard. If it's unsafe to have pillows, bumpers, blankets, stuffed animals and etc, wouldn't it be unsafe to have a giant pillow that completely surrounds the baby too? But all parents/families have to make that call for themselves. There are parents who still use bumpers and blankets and their kids are fine. There are those with the Dock-a-tot too. But to say it's completely, 100% safe would be misleading.
@amberlysoto5 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Putnam I know that but I just don’t understand why it’s not banned within the states if they are “unsafe”
@basicbaroque5 жыл бұрын
@@amberlysoto There could be a few reasons why it's not banned in the USA. My main assumption (seeing as it's been banned elsewhere) would be that this particular product has a lot of disclaimers on the actual website or product itself. So cases where SIDS does occur would be seen as user error, not the product itself. Or, it could be no one has done a formal study against this product. I doubt there would be a lot of companies trying to fund research for anything that wouldn't give them profit and government funding is limited. They'd have more important studies to conduct first. Or... there might be so few cases of this actual product causing a problem, they didn't feel the need to ban them.
@basicbaroque5 жыл бұрын
@@amberlysoto I also just found out why... So the USA doesn't regulate the term "sleeper." It only regulates the terms "crib," "bassinet," and "play yard/playyard." Any manufacturer can place a different name on their product without having to meet USA regulation. But if a product uses the three regulated terms, it must meet the USA requirements to be sold. I'll have to remember this! I had no idea. Here's a link to the article I found this info from: www.candokiddo.com/news/is-dockatot-safe

@TheBabyCubby7 жыл бұрын
Dockatot doesn't want you to put the dock in any enclosed area. If your baby happens to roll over the edge, your baby could get stuck in between the enclosed area and the dock a tot. So just make sure its always in a very open space. :)
@jenniferfillo4036 жыл бұрын
It is unsafe for sleep in all circumstances (bed or crib). It's a suffocation risk. Babies should only sleep in a crib, bassinet, or pack and play.
@kittens4life5546 жыл бұрын
I am pregnant with my first and probably my only child since I been told by many doctors for the past 7 years that I most likely could not get pregnant. I planned on getting a dockatot or something similar till this morning when I read a news report of a young baby suffocating in one...it wasn't a dockatot brand but a similar item. I looked more into it and every group that deals with baby items safety warns against babies sleeping in dockatot or similar items. I would never had know with how every youtube mom has dockatot or snuggle me organic in thier newborn must have items videos. Too bad because they look so comfortable to sleep in but no way I am risking my only child's life.
@BrightElk3 жыл бұрын
Aw yes. So safe. That’s why it was banned in canada and isn’t safe sleep approved. And the website has a long list of don’ts but their advertising has pictures and pictures of the dockatot not following any of these rules. So versatile!

Hi Hazel! We agree that clarification on the uses of the DockaTot has been an issue in the past, and this video is a little outdated. Check out this video's description for more info from DockaTot-like their safety guide-which was updated as of Nov 2020. They were forced to do this because it has been sold in places which dont approve bed sharing. They have a statement showing its tests on breathability I looked into it further and decided that the aap who changes their regulations every other year I was ok trusting Britain's standards for these co sleeping beds and I got one.

Question? I had a premie 6 weeks ago and bought the deluxe and it doesn't sooth him and he didn't like being in it anymore then his regular boppy. He's only 6 pounds do you think as he grows and it is more snug on him he will enjoy it more? It was over 300 here in Canada 336 to be exact for the animal print or should I say safari print
@TheBabyCubby7 жыл бұрын
There is no clinical trials done on it, but conceptually we would recommend swaddling him and then placing him in the Dock-A-Tot to help him feel snug. The Deluxe is used for infants from 5-22 pounds, and as he grows he will fit more snuggly into the Dock-A-Tot. Glad to hear you have a strong little warrior though!
@strongertheninfertility37807 жыл бұрын
Awwww thank you so much for the reply. I hope as he grows he starts to like it more it could just be he has very bad reflex and nothing helps much but his swing and swaddling him. He's also no longer nursing as his doctor put him on special formula I don't agree and nurse 2 times a day but think I may try to get my supply back up. He's not feeding hardly it takes about an hour for him to finish his 2oz bottle I'm worried but I try and try I don't give up he sees his doctor today and is on meds for reflex that does not help
@TheBabyCubby7 жыл бұрын
Stronger then Infertility you got this mama! Don't give up! We hope things improve soon! Also just a reminder you did take the card board out of the dockatot correct? We've had moms forget and it's made a big difference once removed! :)

DockAtot's have been tested and proven to be safe for children. However, just like anything else you put your child in, you are to supervise them while using it. Here are some links to more information about their safety features and the tests that they underwent to be put on the market; dockatot.com/pages/baby-sleeping-tips-sleep-safety, dockatot.com/pages/safety

If you buy one of these, I'm begging you, PLEASE do not let your baby sleep in this at night while you're asleep or any other time that you're asleep or not able to supervise them. It is NOT supposed to be used for unsupervised sleep. It's a HUGE suffocation/SIDS risk, and it's just not worth risking your baby's life to get more sleep. There are other ways to help fussy babies sleep better, LOTS of other ways (and literally all of them are infinitely cheaper than the DockATot too, so that's nice too.) I know most people are totally unaware of this, but I wanted to let you guys know if anyone is reading this. The FDA and Canada's government health department (whatever it's called) have both released warnings about babies sleeping in DockATots at night or any other baby "nest" things. Cosleeping is the same issue, but possibly even worse really, since there are blankets and pillows and you and your partner (if you have one) all in the bed too, and those things aren't safe either. Babies need to sleep on a flat surface (crib, bassinet, Pack N Play, etc.) and with mesh or crib sides. NOT FABRIC. So crib bumpers are not safe, anything that makes the edges of their crib or bassinet soft or whatever, none of that is safe. I *personally* got the "baby trend" brand of Pack N Play (it's called "Resort Elite Nursery Center") and my baby's not here yet, but just got the Pack N Play in the mail and it (and other products like it, I just happen to like this one the best b/c it has a napper/newborn bassinet & a changing table and a full sized bassinet in the middle level and then the regular Pack N Play on the bottom) fits all the safety requirements from what I can tell. The surfaces are flat and not fluffy, no fluffy/soft/fabric sides, all mesh, even in the newborn napper thing, where their face would be it's mesh. So PLEASE get something like that or a crib or a regular bassinet or something. If you want to cosleep *really* bad and that's important to you, please get a co-sleeper bassinet. They're not 100% safe (but basically nothing is) obviously, especially certain types, but I think the best two are the Halo Bassinet swivel sleeper thing, and the Arm's Reach co-sleeper bassinet. Both have awesome reviews. So do something like that rather than putting your baby in a DockATot in the bed with you, that's not even CLOSE to safe.

Hannah Schaffer car seat and a stroller are important a safe crib is also important other than that it's not necessary to have. We didn't have all that as babies and look at us we are doing just fine. Would be nice to buy everything but food and clothes and meds are more important for the baby and the mother. Leave this expensive accessories for the Barbie girls all a baby really needs is his mama
