I actually feel like this is one of the interviews where Le Guin is the most disarmed and really able to have fun!

What a treasure! I watch every speech and interview of Ursula's I can find and I've never seen her laugh so much or so hard. 😂🥰 This is truly heartwarming to watch. I was initially uncomfortable with the slow pace but it really gave her time to say more than she would have otherwise. What a legend. I'm so sorry I never met her.

I loved watching this video from beginning to end - thank you so much for putting it up. By the way, I believe Space Cats was also the first Science Fiction book I read at about age 6 or 7.

Thanks. (I loved Space Cat.) Ursula was a delight to work with. As are Eileen and Nisi.

Great interview. Although I do not agree with the question at 15:43 about adult imagination. She is asking it to the one of the most creative adults in literature. Which I think is extremely rude. It's like asking Picasso or Michelangelo if they lack imagination, how insulting is that?

Dumb interviwers...
@7even67Ай бұрын
Thats not what the interviewer asked about, as the question was produced in context to the previous topic of conversation regarding the power of fiction as a primer for social change related to the perspectives of children and adults. Specifically, the question is about what Ursula thinks about how adult audiences come to lack a critical imagination, to which Ursula responds that its a sort of "self defense," describing the apathy that adults have in context of the previous questions concerns around facilitating the next generations capacity to imagine a better world through hope.

Obvious observations on what all fantasy and sf readers already know. Stupid questions such as where did these superpowers come from? They have been part of sf and fantasy novels for ages and part of various cultural traditions far longer... common knowledge.

It's rhetorical. It's meant to generate tangents.
