I used your construction parts base and did some rearranging. A) I always mirrored one set of assemblers so they're symmetric (as all things should be). I also have a single tile gap between the big boi boxes and the assembler rows, so I can run my elec 1, steel, and elec 2 along the back, this makes the loop back belt much easier to get to for pausing and unpausing. B) I put the mech parts next to CP1 so I could feed off the iron belt, with some balancers so I could switch priorities as I needed (usually, both iron and steel prioritized output to mech parts matl switch, with steels balancer output paused until I'd finished upgrading to Assembly 3s), with electronics, two rows of maintenance (one would be fed Elec 1, the other Elec 2), and then I would have de-prioritized lab equipment 1, and then Elec 2 facing inwards. C) I moved CP1 feed further away so I could put big boi boxes together and run a small bridge over their feed to the assemblers. In front of the LE1 big boi box, I had another bridge that brought steel in and moved LE1 and recyclables out over in this area. D) I set up LE2 and LE3 next to the steel box, with a feed from the wood box I fed CP1 with, as there was just enough room to put in a water tank, a shredder, and a limestone bucket hard against each other, with the chem plant and boiler behind them. E) Immediately behind the LE2 and LE3 is my labs, with the assemblers dumping into boxes which then feed directly onto the lab feed belt, with each one paused and a removable connection point so I can remove the previous LE series. I'll need to do a bit more work to try and add LE4, but I've usually death spiraled before I get there.

I used your blueprint for the construction parts and expanded it two tiles to make room for belts between CP1 and CP2. Then I added room for another tile between CP4 and MAINT1 sheds. I left a gap of about a full square after the Construction Parts machines. I aligned Lab1 assemblers with CP2 assemblers, aligned LAB2 assemblers with CP3 assemblers Mechanical Parts feed in off the main belt to LAB1, Paper comes from a box and fed between CP2 and CP3d. Each LAB stage has a sorter on the output. By setting the sorter to WOOD, The LAB equipment passes straight through and onto the belt to the research labs. Once all research 1 is complete I set the sorter to lab equipment one and then they pass to the lab equipment 2 assemblers instead. This happens again with Equipment 2, and 3. LAB4 just goes on the belt directly. The three labs themselves fit nicely sideways next to ELEC2, ELEC1, MECH, and CP1. The Recycling belt from the labs runs between the labs and the construction parts build before taking a turn and joining the recyclables from the maintenance shops. The whole build fits in about a 4 x 9 square area.a

I was looking at something like this, but because belts needed to be cleared of old goods, and also redirected It always felt a bit 2 complicated to make a blueprint that wasnt going to lead to a lot of 'support' requests.... hence i made a tiny stand alone edition... I think my only regreat is the Red lab equipment machines are not reachable via trucks because ghost assemblers and boxes are blocking access. Maybe that will be fixed in version 4.

It helps but its not a requirement, I tend to either research WAY ahead of where im upto building wise OR im waiting on the next research, but that often comes down to island choices and space to build.
