This is very true indeed. I had to leave some people in the past even as friends because of their lack of moral integrity. Totally the exception to that study. Had a long term relationship, seperated with plenty of emotional mess. Stayed in contact and worked through our shit, after a year we decided to reconcile. Now the relationship is stronger and healthier than ever. Metric shit tonne of communication is key. Everyone told us it never works out the second time around. I guess we're just really lucky.

It appears that todays relationships are becoming more disposable, because one partner listens too much to friends or the media. Most exes are not an exception to go back to. Drive that through your thick skull. They are who they are. Accept and move on. It will hurt , but remain logical and treat yourself nice and In time and only time you will understand why that person didn't mesh well with you. There is a better fit for you and for them , but the dynamic of the two of you isn't meant to be. Admit to yourself that if you did what you were supposed to and actually took your time and got to know someone before being involved romantically you would've seen those character flaws you can't stand, or you would've know they lack morals etc. Move on...you will find better and you will preserve your dignity and self respect. No ex is worth losing that.

He sent me a text saying we were done cuz I didn't wait for him and wandered over to a comic book stand. Then later that night he tried to apologize and get back together (he actually tried to blame how his parents raised him for his issues - he was 35 years old at the time). Uh, no. Unfortunately, not enough time and personal growth had happened, and a lot of our old baggage came rushing back. That was six months ago. To me it's the very opposite about 'healthy break ups'. I moved on easier from bad break ups than from 'adult' and calm ones. It actually made it harder for me, since I got the thought in my head, that I am loosing this kind and open person. It was easier for me to move on from the assholes who treated me bad in the end. It was just the very obvious proof for me, that they are idiots and I deserve better and they're no big loss. Nope, if its a full split in the first place there had to be a strong reason for it. If they did it based off in the heat of an emotion they simply were too reactive to be in the relationship. If it's just a break then sometimes. I think I am a healthy person, I let myself go through the emotional routine and get everything out of my system and substitute my ex with friends who have always been there.

chris hamlin That’s Will and Kate though. Most of the time, it doesn’t work out that way. I took an ex of mine back when I was 21 and him 20. We’d dated the first time as teens. But he and I originally met as friends in middle school. The second round went well then of course it got hard when he joined the National Guard. When he got back, he pretty much was checked out of the relationship. He then began corresponding with an old gf of his from hs before he broke up with me for her. She apparently contacted him and he gave in to her. I remember him being very slow to respond to my text messages or calls when he got back too, and not very receptive to any affection I’d give him either. He and I only lasted a month and a half as teens and a year and two months as adults in our early 20s at the time. I’ll never take him back now.

Over the 5.5 yrs we dated we had 3 big breakups, the third being the final one. The other 2 we got back together after what I thought were good productive talks where we established an understanding. Clearly nothing stuck. I harbored doubt, anger and lack of trust and I feel that prevented me from giving and fulfilling her needs the best I could. Our conflict resolution was our biggest challenge. We tried a couple times before but I highly doubt we'll give it a third try. I understand our compatibility isn't where it needs to be.

Actually 60%+ end in divorce and out of the less than 40% that last at least half of those are just roommates or staying together because of kids. I never have and would never get back with an ex. Especially if months have gone by and we have both started dating other people, gross. However, I have known friends who have and 16yrs later they are still together, married and with kids and generally happy. So I think it’s possible but rare. Rare because MosT people are so into this modern trend of “saving face, having the upper hand and standing your ground”. My friends who have had success are definitely old fashion and found old fashion men as well and didn’t follow ANY of these new post breakup rules we now see all over the internet. ..Of course with this being said , I witnessed A LOT of begging, overspill of emotions, hysterical crying , deep depression from one side(usually my female friend but twice from the guy they broke up with). ...and seeing this , feeling the amount of pain and humiliation they went through completely turned me away from relationships ALL TOGETHER. I only dated and seriously date(meaning one guy but no definitive exclusive status) .. I only went against this rule once and now I’m single again and remembered why i felt and lived how i did for so long.. and no, i didn’t ruin it by not knowing how to be in a relationship. I think I have too much of myself and he began thinking I would his doormat and he would be free to do as he wants and come and go like so many men do...

I got back with my ex. At first I wasn’t sure if it would workout... then I open up again. 2 years later. He broke up with me because he said I cheated. Id love to know who i cheated on with... never again... he crushed me because I felt so blind sided. I have never been successful with taking an ex back. I did it 4 times thinking and believing as well as hoping but those lessons are also valuable. They say sometimes you have more to learn. I sure hope I love myself enough in the future to not ever do that. I think it's better to hold out for someone who is worth your time. yeah I have one ex who is narcissistic (and one Insecure one ) the first started calling again 3 years on . we started talking cuz I wanted to make amends from the fighting and be friends but he hasn't changed . he's still horny all the time , he only wanted me for the sex he's unpredictable , charming until he gets weird and fades away with little explanation and after that short reunion I'm even more indifferent and disgusted by him now. to come back into my life just to hurt me like that.even as a friend he's lousy . I would never go back to people I left behind and there never is another reason to . 3 years should be OVER plus it wasn't real it was superficial so he can fuck off hopefully for good and not come back again. someone like that is HORRIBLE it was my fault for letting him back in I won't go back to the other one either life really is too short to waste it. these experiences have made me lose interest in dating omg it has the potential to destroy you ! cost me friendships and now I have to move forward and remind myself I'm not with that toxic person anymore and the wanker comes back like nothing has changed, I really HATE that it's for some people not for me !! the stress nearly killed me. I will be truly happy if he loses interest in me for good and forever
