I wish Russell had asked him why the 'first time' of events is Earth/Humanity centric. Surely some alien species have observed these things before, so why did it not improve salt formation, for example, prior to our perception of it? Maybe some facets of this Cosmic Memory is species dependent but others are interspecies and still other stored as planetary 'memory', assuming all this is valid? BTW, I agree with Jungian homo Sapien shared memory and with sympathetic animals like pets and intelligent other life forms, dolphins, elephants, etc.

@Andreas Silva: Yours is a good observation . . . and worth thinking about some more. For example: what do Brand and Sheldrake actually have in common that makes this a good conversation (?) I don't think that it's primarily similar views. Instead, there's a kind of sincerity in each . . . that informs the conversation. From my own personal experience: I cringe to have conversation with a self-righteous, close-minded person who shares my views . . . but enjoy conversation with a curious, not-invested-in-himself person who doesn't share them.

Sheldrake is very articulate about his ideas, Russell drops in a load of big words often muddying the waters and sometimes unknowingly contradicting himself in the same sentence (i cant believe he gets away with it). Good that he's connecting his audience with such speakers.

God I loved this one. I have been in recovery since 1983. Prior to that I had many psychedelic experiences, the first with Peyote in 1960. I was one of those “first wave psychedelic pioneers” reading about the LSD twins, Alpert and Leary, who were our culture heroes. I have also been an Episcopalian for many years and my daughter was a chorister at St. John the Divine cathedral in NYC. They did Vespers service every Sunday night and yes the Vespers or Choral Evensong is a beautiful transcendent experience. I guess you could say I have been searching for transcendence all my life. These podcasts are just GREAT!! You and Rupert were like jazz musicians “riffing on God”. I love this series. I am an old lady now, quarantined to save my life and except for phone calls and my daughter and her Scottish husband “zooming”in, I am alone. Your podcasts are saving my life.

Your comment makes me think of Don McLeans line in his song 'Starry Night' " You suffered for your sanity." To me this is the motion that those we label as 'insane' are the ones that are 'sane'. I am not denying that certain mental states can be harmful to our health but our approach to different mental states is more harmful than the state itself. In some cultures these 'mental states' are embraced and revered and considered to add value to the group.

Actually a man named Rudolf Steiner studied holistically and created some amazing things. He called his work spiritual science. @@angelayerkovich3077 Also in Western culture. They're called 'artist', 'creative', or 'President of the United States'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Trump is a great artist. But Sheldrake is a (former) scientist who seems to dogmaticly sell the same new age paranormal ideas over and over again, only supported by suggestive questions and anecdotes. I bought and read his book 'A new science of life' in the eighties. At first, starting to read more and more about science in general, I found it interesting. Like I found astrology interesting as a young person. But a decade later I saw them as mistakes, or delusional, misguided. I'm a bit flabbergasted that decades later he still is repeating the same stories and questions - i.e. about dogs and pigeons. To me it seems the man, like any religiously convinced person, is compulsary fixated on his own belief and still tries to manipulate and interpret reality into his own pseudoscience, like a fanatic astrologist or homeopath would too. I don't know the english word for it, but in German they say 'hineininterpretieren'.

This animal telepathy thing has never been something I ever questioned. I never really considered the word telepathy to describe it I just always thought it was common knowledge like a type or normal understanding that animals can sense more than us. I mean, that’s what most people have always told me my whole life anyway and I’ve always believed it. When I’m upset my dog comes in from the other room acting very concerned and licks my tears and snuggles me. My cat comes to me purring when I’m anxious and her purr steadies my heart rate. When I went into labor my dog woke me up to let me know and he got me through it, I literally would not have gotten through the first part of labor prior to going to the hospital without my dog and cat and they were both very different during my entire pregnancy. They acted different towards me before I even knew I was pregnant. They are who initially gave me the idea that I may be before I started feeling sick and finally deciding to take a test. My dog also knows when someone, most often his father is about to pull into the driveway just before he does. My dog had also somehow known exactly what to do to take care of me after the first time I had a seizure without him having any training without ever witnessing a seizure or someone caring for a person who has had one. He’s also starts acting up and tries to do whatever he can to get me off of my feet prior to me having one and I don’t even know when I’m about to have one like some epileptics do. Animals 110% have the capability to sense more than us. I have never questioned that and it blows my mind that anyone ever could, especially scientists. Shame on you scientists 😠

Think there's something to the reasons why one is the way he is, and the other the way he is. Not to say skeptics can't have admirable character traits, the intellectually honest of them surely do; but the "debunkers" are not imo proper skeptics. They start with the assumption that it isn't real, and look for evidence to support that view. Evidence that does not, they will ignore or if pressed, resist conceding to regardless of sound research holding scientific validity which is rigorously vetted. I think there are psychological grounds as to this particular incapacity or unwillingness. The implications of a spiritual reality can be as frightening as they are exciting, some people are maybe ready for that possibility.

A brilliant discussion and analysis of reality as the most “intelligent” among our species “perceives” it to be. Brand’s “instinct” toward the Vedas, and Sheldrake’s extensive correlates involving the history of science and politics leading him to conclusions based on repeatable testing conclusions supports the reality of consciousness as beyond matter is “scientifically” sound. A simplistic, yet anecdotal, yet Vedic millennia-old basis for consciousness existing apart from the cerebral cortex, as is now universally studied and experienced, can be found in the NDE’ers reporting the same, like Dr.’s Alexander, Neal and Lommel. Stephen Meyer’s and his colleagues work on DNA and those working on convergence is where “science” is evolving. It appears obvious……..

I watched this again this morning, a year since last watching, and I obviously had not caught on to the fact of the non constant speed of light last year and was instantly blown away again. I fully subscribe to the notion that everything is temporary, but had obviously considered that there were constants within that temporariness, but the fact that it is actually somebody's job to keep track of these moving, so called, constants and that the length of a metre can change and go back again has blown my mind, as they say. So my supposition that time sometimes goes faster or slower may not be a figment of my imagination at all, amazing! I wonder what I will discover if I watch again next year. I've found we can think we learned from a podcast because we listened once and had an uhuhh moment, but the truth is you won't be able to recall the information when asked it will just be leftovers of the original information.

I'd be interested in hearing why you chose to abandon a thing that you must have valued on some level since you count it as a loss now. Was it completely your choice or were outside forces partially responsible; Did you abandon dogma because it wasn't working or were you doubtful of it's value; Were you Catholic and lost faith because of the failures of the modern church or did science interpose itself and answer questions in a more complete way? I ask these questions because I too have moved away from a faith-based perspective to one based upon the scientific-method and rationality but, as you describe it, I've suffered from that change in subtle ways, just curious, Sir.

@@waynemyers2469 I was raised in a protestant home devoted to the first principles of Christianity and mostly uninformed about the evolution of christianity and other religious views. I was raised to believe that all religious views, but ours, were corrupted ideologies. As I became aware of the inconvenient truths about every religion and the inescapable magnitude of rational answers in the natural world my foundation began to crumble. I will always miss the strong caring community, the complete sense of present and eternal security, and the sense of wellness I derived from devotion to a community's delusion. Those people are my people. The songs, the idioms, the mantras, and meditations still evoke a powerful response in me that feels like loss. But, where do you turn when you can't go home? So, I'm wishing for a world where people value the communal pursuit of truth and see the unified awe of the natural world as the worship we were born to participate in. Best regards.

The most joyous community I was ever a part of was the Jesus movement in the 70s. Our group somehow came together in an organic and haphazard way, and became a very intimate and informal social community. Most of us moved apart and have outgrown the dogma we believed in. The spirituality and love was very real. If I could find this type of community again I would become a part of it. Regardless of our simple beliefs, the love and growth were real. Pastors have since asked me why I didn’t join a church when I moved away. Genuine community is not easy to create. We were blessed by an outpouring of spirit somehow.

Don't drill down into things too deeply because if you do, you will drill right through them and come out the other side. That goes for religious dogma as well as scientific dogma. Everything is a process of exploration and enjoyment and celebration, not a prison house to be locked into. More like a canoe on a river than a bedrock. More like the wing of a bird than a brick. Nobody knows the origin of ontological energy. Science perceives it and organises it one way and religion another. Different religions and spiritual traditions perceive and organise differently. I would never presume to tell a practitioner of another religion that they are "wrong". That is how the ontological energy and their tradition and their family has presented itself to them. Fine. It's an ongoing process. An open question. Not a nailed down "truth" all must adhere to. But neither is science. All science does is create provisional models for the purpose of prediction and control; as soon as a model better at prediction control comes up, the old models are set aside. An ongoing process. There's always room for improvement. We never get to a final, exclusive, complete "truth" about nature or about ourselves. All we get is heuristic tools. Probabilities. We note patterns, make an educated guess, act and hope for the best. All we get is effects and patterns of effects. Forevermore. So, enjoy your religious community. Don't put too much weight on it. Don't get hung up on it. Don't expect too much of it. Don't expect them to have a cohesive "proof" that can withstand all scrutiny. Because nothing else can either. The secular world is pretty chintzy. If it's health-promoting, if it makes your life richer, if it makes your life more beautiful, it's good. There is no other criteria of good, true, right. By their effects, ye shall know them. The proof is in the pudding. Etc., etc., etc. God bless!

"Life Force is a power. It is within you, but you cannot gain control of it. It is possible to use it in certain situations, but to actually have authority over it requires a highly developed and adept mind. This is important because in physical life you have the potential for power, ability and awareness. If these are cultivated wisely and applied appropriately, they become beneficial for you and for others."

Good for you Hope! I like that-"trusting yourself is key"-too many people are hung up on the visible tangible reality that they can't find the answers pertaining to this whole discussion because we place a very heavy limit upon ourselves that kinda seems like a lack of trust in actual direct experience. There are people including myself who have experienced things that have proven as evidence, but because I and others can't place direct personal experience onto a platter and slide it under a microscope for scientific evidence, it gets ridiculed and critiqued and thrown out basically. It's like we no longer have trust in experience and rely entirely upon the visible tangible evidence to show and prove us this part of life does exist. Unfortunately for many more years , perhaps, we'll still be dancing around this topic because we'll also continue to limit ourselves through being hung up on tangible "reality". We can't get there from here.

Our "rational thinking" culture is going through an crises of faith and the world around us no longer seems to be the same the one which has been explained to us by the scientists for the last hundred years. We need new discussion about quantum physics , cosmic consciousness, human consciousness, genetic research.

I believe in telepathy. I have sleep paralysis sometimes; one day, when I couldn't get my body to wake up along with my mind, I yelled for my mom who was in the next room, with my mind, because I needed her to wake me up (I was terrified, obviously), and she said she heard me calling her, but not through her ears (like a voice in her head) so she thought she was just hearing things and didn't do anything about it. I was so mad at her when I woke up I said "I called you why didn't you come" as if I knew she could hear me. She said next time that happened again she would wake me up. Anyway I don't get sleep paralysis anymore so I haven't had to test it.

It is true, but requires inner cultivation to realize for most. Some were born with more developed cosmic vision, but the west has strictly denied that we exist before we are born (incarnation of spirit/soul into flesh) and the existence of consciousness, the non physical sentient being. The positive side of this is, we have a great opportunity to experience self-realization from a state of complete ignorance. That is certain to severely disrupt ones belief systems and worldviews however. The lower egomind always battles the process.

F.I.S.H. Paragraph 1. The phenomenal universe which can be detected with our five senses is the manifestation of the unmanifested One Reality which most persons call “God”. Therefore, “God” is not a SEPARATE Person, distinct from His/Her creation but is fully omnipresent in the manifest universe - you, who are reading these words are That! The highest philosophy is known as “panentheism”, that is, God being one with but inconceivably and simultaneously distinct from the material universe. So the One Reality (God) is acting through each and every living creature (as well as the inanimate, to a lesser degree) in order to experience Himself in this play of duality, to which William Shakespeare famously alluded in his work “As You Like It”, when he scribed “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” This “story of life” has been preordained since the beginning of the universe (the so-called “Big Bang”). Therefore, free-will does not exist on the individual level but only on the universal plane, since there is only one Being in existence. To read the remaining thirty-nine paragraphs of “A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity”, which the God of all gods has graciously given to His Prophet on Earth, email: prophet4god@icloud.com with the acronym “FISH” in the subject field.

awesome! This contributes to my understanding as to why the medical system persists in using a mechanical lens for purely physical treatments instead of transcending to treat us by looking at the food we put into our body/"motor", the problem emotions exhibited are obvious in the physical form, that the energy we have running through the body whether spirit or heart break, it all needs daily human attention to retain grounding, focus and to grow well. No one grows well on pharmaceutical drugs but yes, some relief but more drugs to address side effects from the other drugs that is destined to create a dominoes effect. Similarly, this is visible in how medicine conducts childbirth. A bio-psycho-social framework empowers couples to use their body, mind and support system to enable the baby to be born safely. Midwives work this way as do Doula's because it works and can save a birthing woman from the Cesaerean knife, along with the lack of attachment that forms naturally. "It felt like I had picked him at at the grocery store", the mother told me who after 36 hrs of trying & practicing all the skills and methods to help the babytranscend down the birth canal because she knew she had done everything in her power. The couple had worked as a team to do this cementing their relationships as well. Growing peoples personal power is the most important prescription a doctor can give. My brain's patterns of thinking as a victim of fathers violent attack at 16yrs of age is connected to my arthritis, to my aching leg tendons and my depression that develops due to what the brain thinks is only my physical pain areas and denies all past harms that the body obviously holds onto. The child sexual abuse survivor often shows up, not surprisingly as depressed, Same as Gabor Mate who struggles with depression having been born into a terrifying moment during Hitlers terrorizing his Jewish family.

_Regarding dogs and owners._ Dogs begin to pick up patterns of time, especially when it comes to receiving food. Dogs will not respond to random cars or people prior to when the owner usually comes home. Below are some clues that may alert the dog that the owner will be arriving soon: 1. The level of light in the sky from the window. 2. Sounds of children playing outside _after school._ 3. The owner's natural sound of walking (heavy or light footsteps, etc.) 4. Key sounds. Keys on a ring have a unique sound. 5. The pattern of time.

I took classes in particle physics and brain science and realized particle theory is backed up in every way possible. Also, the brain is a very complex organ and subjectively recreates reality through electrical impulses of the senses/ eyes and ears and sometimes its wrong in its interpretation. Its easy to fool the brain, especially if you feed it misinformation.

I find Rupert Sheldrake's theory really interesting and it seems this "morphic resonance" could answer quite a few of some phenomenon that we might have seen ourselves that conventional scientists can't explain like how Monarch butterflies and certain birds migrate to the same places each year, despite never having been there; whales commit suicide en masse and intend to it; whales singing and teaching that song to other whales; lightning bugs that blink in perfect unison; turtles returning to beaches where they were hatched....so many things that seems to involve complicated navigation systems or conversation between each other. It certainly does seem to be a memory in nature that is not explained by having a complex brain. It makes a lot of sense but I don't see mainstream science adopting that idea anytime soon. It explains things in a way that is not guided by concrete scientific laws and that will always be challenged.

And just so no one thinks I'm a Bible-thumper, I am an atheistic geologist (I've seen tons of evidence that the earth is older than 6000 years or whatever it is those CreationisT nuts say. But I do believe that there is a lot that science can't explain yet and these experiences may be due to tuning into certain frequencies than we as humans donnitnfind natural but we occasionally do it, or another sense we indeed have that isn't recognized yet. Animals seem to possess other senses or heightened states of the senses that we share. All objects have a frequency (or set of) that it vibrates at. Perhaps we sense someone is in a room with us because we can be in tune to those vibrations or waves.

More or less, it's a religion. Quite often, these "scientists" are far too invested in keeping the same old line going, with tenures, grant money and the like hanging in the balance. As if those things do anything other than help their societal survivability. It's certainly no evidence of them being right about anything, just that they stayed with the usual program to not rock the boat, thereby garnering for themselves longer periods of increased material comfort and conveniences. Regarding our brains, most of our memory isn't even stored in our brains. The rest of our body houses far and away more memory than any of our brains ever could. Please, do not believe, but seek answers for yourself. It's not difficult to see that nothing important is in the mainstream anything. Only tiny glimpses here and there are evident. Given time, the new generations will see it through. It's already slowly taking shape. The "great majority" (ie. blind followers/believers) will come along for the ride; hopefully gaining some insight and realizations along the way.

I lived with multiple dogs all my life and horses most of it, and I can tell you without question that they communicate on some form of telepathic level. I’ve watched it all my life and always claimed as much to those around me. People close to me have called me nuts, but those people just haven’t watched close enough. But they absolutely do.

When I was about 14 or so, I woke from a vivid nightmare. In the morning my brother told me of the craziest dream he had. It was down to precise detail the same dream that I had just dreamt. Don't ask me how or why, but it was exactly the same dream. That still amazes me to this day, the chance of that by chance is between zero and infinity.

Science is the most rational and logical vehicle compared to other sources which force irrational ideas in the name of righteous ideology, I don't see how science has closed the human spirit by providing evidence and facts to back theories and it does not in essence have any angle or benefit, it is not a control mechanism

I love ruperts book about psychic dogs. It’s all true stories and so well written. I think I cried. I definitely started looking at dogs differently. Then, when my Pomeranian died, I was so distraught, I nearly lost my mind…then I saw her ghost and felt at peace. Read his book if you love doggos!

All life is priceless. All life is truly miraculous. The sooner we gather and own those 2 principles despite the narrative pounded down our collective throats the sooner we can develop the abilities that all conscience minds are capable of. "One who drinks from my well shall never thirst again." JC Our soul has a most sacred task to perform, for we and ALL LIFE are the physical manifestation of the Holy Spirit, all that is sacred, and the ability to allow all life to exist without our intervention.
